The visit is for him to negotiate on the political prisoners jailed across the country then.

You're right. The likes of MKO, OBJ, Bola Ige and many political gladiators and activists were abitraily jailed at that time.
BTW, you seems to be the only one speaking sensibly here. All the comments above you are probably from indomie generation

The pope was in Nigeria, it is only right he visits the sitting head of state. What has thief got to do with it?

Exactly.

Also remember that the Pope is the only religious leader in the world with same status as a Head of State or President of a country. This comes with a lot of privileges and diplomatic attributes.

Abacha was a terrible leader and the pope came to advise him. Pope Francis has done that Biden too.

The lady shaking hands with the Pope is not Haram, and the Pope is not regarded an infidel. Wonders shall never cease. The poor practicing religion will surely die in their chains.

Shouldn't it be HARAM to kneel before the leader of the INFIDELS?

It seems you don't know the full story about the Pope's visit in 1998.

Please don't misinform the public

The Pope was in Nigeria to negotiate the release of all the political detainees and social activists held in captivity by the government of General Sanni Abacha.

The Papal's visit was not about merry making and frolicking with the government of the day but rather he was on a truce brokering mission.

If I'm not wrong, Gen Abacha died shortly after the visit and that of Yasser Arafat .

THE PROBLEM WITH NIGERIA IS UNDER-COVER CIA AGENTS DESTROYING OUR ECONOMY FROM WITHIN.

ABACHA DID NOT LET THEM IN AND THEY HATED HIM, JUST AS THEY HATE THE LEADERS IN NIGER REP, MALI AND BURKANA FASO.

WE GOT TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS THE PROBLEM.

THE WEST WANT DEMOCRACY SO THEY CAN FUND PUPPETS INTO OUR SEAT OF POWER.

BUHARI WAS A PUPPET.
