Dont mind FreeStuffsNG always making noise about foreign investment. Not knowing that at the long run, its of minimal benefit to the country.

We should look for ways to promote local investors and local production.

https://punchng.com/foreign-investors-repatriate-5bn-dividend-cbn/

exactly....they all thought bringin in foreighn companies was the magic solution....
look now....as soon as this companies have monopoly, they start pressin your neck....

when we tell una this foreighn companies are doing nigeria no good, una will not listen....

Keep quiet if you have nothing meaningful to contribute to a discussion. There is a value in silence.

The purpose of every business is to make profits and create value in the process. These businesses employ thousands of workers in the process and the employees in turn spend money in the economy. Do you have any job for them if they become jobless?

Why do you think the president is always traveling looking for foreign investors? It is never a good thing when investors leave.

You might probably be a recalcitrant teenager who still lives with his parent.

My cousin worked at Procter and Gamble at Oluyole Estate in Ibadan for years and he was never paid in dollars. P&G never evaded tax. They contributed greatly to oyo state IGR and the FG at large. Their products were for Nigerian Market only. They got the lemon from Nigerian local farmers and made them multi millionaires by constantly patronising them. I remember a time P&G brought an improved yield of the lemon to the farmers from IITA to enhance their yields. P&G had enough money to cultivate lemon but never did, just to promote local sources of supply and create wealth among farmers in a way. They didn't export their products. I'm sure you know the popular vicks lemon plus. It's the product I'm talking about. Lemon peel is one of the ingredients.

You are one of the enemies of Nigeria guy. All of you will definitely bear the consequences of your defence of the indefensible soon.

How would these farmers growing lemon survive? Hope you know they have families and employees on their farmlands? Where would they go? What of those Nigerians working on the P&G plant? You're disgrace to humanity

The dude you are quoting is a very dull guy walahi. probably a teen with zero awareness of his environment.

Why does he think Tinubu is traveling upandan looking for foreign investors?

best solution is to promote local producers....nigerians then will hire nigerians....
then only nigerian companies should be subsidies for raw materials that are not available in nigeria....

nobody else....worked well with dangote,we should do the same for other nigerian companies too....
then the economy will grow again....

this foreighn companies dont hire that much nigerians as una think....
its all propaganda....

before defendin any of this foreighn companies,go find out how many nigerians they realy hire....

The company thought things would look up with a new government once Buhari was out of the way.

However, Tinubu has fallen short of expectations.

The elephants in the room are the $7b demand the CBN is yet to clear.

The other is the CBN refusal to fight inflation with gusto by increasing interest rates and the statement that inflation would hover around 21.4% next year. This was the joke of the century.

Government needs to slash company tax to 15% or less. This will drive investment in Nigeria and boost economic growth.

To clear the $7b, the government would need an IMF bailout. However, the IMF won't lend the nation the cash with the CBN's pro inflationary interest rates. It would demand the issue addressed.

It would also demand cuts in the size of the civil service, which would trim government spending. It would also demand the deregulation of the petrol and electricity prices which would further cut government spending. They would also demand liberalization of imports

Many of these proposals are dead on arrival, especially the sacking of civil servants and deregulation of electricity and petrol prices.

Anyways, P&G exit from the country is not a death sentence. Many Nigerian owned companies are taking over the landscape, able to thrive in the harsh conditions of doing business in Nigeria. We have brands such Biggie and Viva taking over the landscape.

Nevertheless, it would be great if P&& stayed.

wetin P&G dey sale anyway? toilet papers?? grin

Saladdin:
Nigeria is definitely not one of P&G's strongest market. The ROI is not justifying the investment on ground.

Had Nigerian been a working nation that supports it's SMEs, this is the best chance for upcoming FMCGs in the country to fill the gap.

Similar issue happened in '91 during Babangida's SAP, but the business terrain then is still less stifling that what we have now.

Too bad, as thousands of jobs (direct and indirect) will be lost. But who can blame the company? Companies follow profit not emotions.

There you go. They want to import from factories overseas and create jobs there.

Even when local raw materials and wages are cheap giving them maximum profit. But they are willing to pay higher wages at home.

Africans you see your lives. Who preached to you that foreign investment is your salvation?

They are patriotic, mean exploiters. They want you to change your worthless currency into dollars and euros. If they make stuff cheaper in Africa and export them, as they do in China and Asia, African currencies and economy will become stronger competing with them like China.

A significant but not catastrophic loss of jobs. Another or a homegrown company will eventually fill the void of their departure.

If there is something this foreign companies are seing we are yet to see ?

2024 will reveal alot.

It isn't good but it can become an opportunity for others. Their absence should spur someone to fill the vacuum, a $50million net sales is decent for a manufacturer with big dreams and plans to expand.

They have equipment already in Nigeria and a manufacturing plant someone who has a decent plan can seek to acquire that. The biggest issue for Nigerian investors is actually financing because the foreign companies seek to repatriate their profits while a local owner doesn't care as much for that.

I don't blame them. Like seriously a country of 200 million people generated a net sales of $50 million dollars. As in that is the height of poverty. Nigerians purchasing power has taken a serious hit

Never thought of it as competition has reduced the P&G market share. They are no more the entity they were in the olden days when they were a household name now many young people don't even know what name.
