If you are a car owner in Nigeria you need to be very sharp and attentive, before you take your car to any mechanic you must first try as much as possible to diagnose the problem.

I bought a car in August, a direct Belgium car, as soon as I bought the car I called my mechanic to change the tyres and brake pads, guess what?
After changing tyres, this mechanic intentionally put bad, oversized brake pads, after like 2 days I started noticing smoke from my tyres, whenever I match brake I will hear a very loud noise I was angry so I called the mechanic again and told him the issue, he said brake pad is ok that I need to change one disk shaped metal that the brake pad rests on, I did so for
25k and after 24hr the noise returned, he already removed the follow come stuff and replaced it with an ugly rusted one. I was suspicious.
When the noise returned I decided to take it to total filling station mechanics, after explaining to the guys they said the problem is the brake pad. They changed it and till this day no single noise from my tires, I haven't changed brake pad since then.

Since then I have met 2 different mechanics and one thing I discovered was that these mechanics usually give wrong diagnosis intentionally especially if your car is still neat with follow come parts, example if your ac gas finish they will say you need to change ac sensor, they will remove your follow come ac sensor and put substandard one. After everything they will sell your follow come sensor to spare parts dealers and before you know it your car will be a total mess.

After a while, they will have no job because they have sent their customers away due to their greed. They will be riding Okada or be blaming government for their self-inflicted misfortune.

It was a petrol station that almost ruined my car. They filled my tank with a mixture of water and petrol.

Lol this kin thing almost make me fight mechanic last yr. I was using a German car last year and on evening the car stopped and refused to start, the mechanic came that evening saying its plug we changed plug that night still car no start, we continue the next day, he said to change fuel pump, still no start.. trial and error my car de outside for good 2 days on the second day the guy managed to get the car to start but then all my dash board light came on, oil light, fuel light, engine light, seeing that I was pissed he gave up and decided to take me to a German car specialist but on the way the car stopped omoh... so we called the specialist to come meet us. He came and connected his laptop to the car and told us it electrical fault after I already spent more than 50k on fuel pump I was about to Assault my mechanic but people held me, finally I bought some fuse and stuff after every every I didn't spend up to 10k. I left mechanic shop by 9pm, dust, heat finished my life that day

Always diagnose the car first before calling a mechanic. Those Lasisi and Kabiru mechanics hate their colleagues with auto-diagnostic machine, because those ones will soon put them out of jobs.

Any mechanic or car electrician without diagnostic machine is 100% into trial-and-error. They will kill your car.

Many mechanics in my area don't greet me. They damaged my first car, when I bought a new one, I made it clear they wouldn't be touching the car, and I warned them never to touch my car anywhere they are called by my electrician to come work on it.

My first car taught me a lesson about dubious mechanic behaviours, and that has kept my new car going without issues for 3 years now. Just like medical lab test is important for human health before therapy, car diagnostics is very important for car health. Insist on diagnostics first.

The brain box of my 2017 ford escape is performing all it due functions but my car is having acceleration problem. I'm suspecting plug but they're saying is brainbox .

I have read online and I'm well convinced it is plug.

They've gone to test the brain box .let me wait and see .

hahahahahahahahah.....abeg pity the mechanic.

The first thing I did, even before I bought my first car years ago, was to buy a small, portable car diagnostic device. Not the big type, the one that comes with a mobile app and connects to phone through bluetooth

Can diagnostics work on Toyota or Honda?

Definitely. As long as the vehicle has ODBII ports. The scanner itself is very cheap, less than 5k when I bought it then, on Aliexpress

I've been a mechanic to myself like 3years ago. I can comfortably dislodge all 4 tyres. I can drain oil and insert oil filter. I can remove battery and put it back. I can dismantle radiator, bonnet, condenser, belt,I can open my fuel pump to check my fuel b4 I hit road.what I cannot do. Engine wahala, plug wahala, gasket, brake pad,alignment,ac...not me.

Ive been using my vehicle for 5 years now. The only time another hand has touched it was when i had a leak in my evaporator and when i had an accident in 2019. Other than those i do everything myself. Gasket, prop shafts and seals brakes down to power window motors, lightings, relay, Efi, fuel flow.
I also have ih8mud forums to thank for the really complex stuff.

The components i cant repair like clogged radiator i take it out and give someine to clean up. My car has never slept in a workshop.
My car is an fj80 landcruiser. Very rare
