Nigerians will not agree.... Alot of them want free things at the government's expense... Money for infrastructural developments.... They prefer to use it eat up everything as palliatives.... A typical Nigerian prefers a bag of rice to a good and functional local health care facility!!! |

jogojogo:Thank you for asking this question. Giving people freebies will not and cannot solve the problem on ground. Most of these palliatives goes to the wrong hands. The rich in the society get more of the palliative than the poor it meant for. I was in a place they were sharing palliative and 30 bags of rice was given to the emir, 15 bags to the chief of a community, 5 bags to the sub-chief while the poor in the society were given muddles and some didn't get at all. In all the palliative is just surface dressing and cannot heal the problem on ground. The prices of goods and services are still going up and some goods are out of the reach of the poor as we talk today. Bag of rice is out of reach. Beans out of reach. Garri out of reach. Yam out of reach. All the commonest food stuffs are out of the reach of the poor and we say palliative will cushion the effect. How is that possible? Meanwhile, if all these can be done and many more it would reduce the effects to some extent. 1. Revamp the refineries. 2. Reduce cost of governance. 3. Place members of the national assembly on salary level with civil servants and also scrap the Senate arm by sponsoring bill to that effect and leave only the house of representatives. 4. Block corruption holes and make politics unattractive to politicians by placing them on civil service salary. 5. Build good roads, improve electricity supply and security. 6. Reduce political activities and face governance. |
