You see the bolded right there? That is the main problem with nollywood movies.

THEY DO NOT TRIGGER THE IMMAGINATION

And that's why the oyibo dare to dream about the type of aspirations that we down here can only be privileged to stumble upon.

Asaba movies what is their general theme? The ones shot in the cities and villages? Their plots are mostly recycled stories with different casts.

I will prefer my kids to be watching movies about humans colonising Mars and fighting interstellar wars with the aliens we run into there. It is all make belief yes but it triggers the minds of these kids to be forward thinking. They will also hear and recognise the spoken words (even with their pronounciation, intonation variations) of most English speaking Americans and Europeans better and earlier. They will speak well and their vocabularies will grow faster.

Have you seen the movie INCEPTION before? You see the theme of that story? That is still a hundred times of what we are expecting from nollywood.

There are many disadvantages of nollywood movies, especially for teenage kids. I wouldn't bore you with listing them here.

You absolutely nailed it.

Taaaah!
Be calming down, which improvement? Nolly wood is the birthplace of simps, especially their modern ones.

They portray alpha males as bullies and arrogant, while promoting simps with all fibers.

I broke up with a girl who loves watching that shit. Just told her we ain't compatible.

My thoughts too

With their stereotype cast, poorly written script, same faces in every picture, bad Special effects, bad…….

If I walk into a room and see you on any of the African magic channels, out of the many channels on cable tv you could watch, I rate you 4/10 and can’t see myself discussing either politics, current affairs or sports with you cause
we won’t be on the same page.

Nollywood in the 90s and early 2000s was quite something to write home about and look forward to, with a stellar cast, great script and beautiful soundtracks from Stanley okorie (chain reaction). It made our childhood and gave us something to love and cherish in the absence of cable tv. Sad to note that there’s been a steady decline in the production of good Nollywood movies in recent years.
You are absolutely correct. Most Nollywood movies today are crappy and often portray rubbish and unrealistic themes.
You can't compare movies of the 90s and early 2000s with the load of crappy films churned out today.

1, low quality
2, Unprofessional actors and actresses
3, Poor storyline
4, Poor casting
5, MOST ANNOYING
THEY ALWAYS SIT IN A SITTING ROOM OR BEDROOM TO TALK IN ALL THEIR USELESS MOVIES.

IS SITTING DOWN TO TALK NONSENSE A MOVIE?
NO ACTION, NO NOTHING.
Forgot to add extreme level of predictability
2.Potraying unrealistic themes like a king spending more money than Dangote,Prince or princess beating someone because of lack of greetings.agents of evil transforming into Animals in physical form and changing back, still wearing clothes.
( In real life, any agent of darkness who changes into an animal physically and back must be naked when returning to human form, just like werewolves in the West)
On a second note, Nollywood movies don't necessarily need action because this is Africa.
You don't expect them to produce movies featuring men fighting on a moving train,a car rushing at lightning speed on the road, and flying in the air like a bird,a man pursuing a car moving at wind speed and catching up with it.
This is Africa and Nollywood should portray Africa and its issues, cultural, economic and otherwise.

Exactly bro,but I am very selective in the Nollywood movies I watch oo! A lot of them nowadays are crappy.
One of the best Nollywood movies I watched this year is Gangs of Lagos. The action therein is so amazing, virtually like that of a foreign film.

When a Nigerian senator said made In nigeria cars are not good enough,we all unleash an attack against him for demarketing our automobile industry but see some of us doing the same to our movie industry. Some people should just stop blaming politicians who fail to support local innovations because they will definitely be worse than the politician they are preaching against when they attain similar status.

The Nollywood people should step up and people will embrace them.
I am an advocate of the Nigerian league and do go to the stadium regularly to support my local club Bendel insurance because I see improvement in their football techniques.

I love criticism when it is a constructive. Many criticism up there totally demarket Nollywood and I can't imagine how the actors and producers will feel reading those depressing comments, some of them might actually be a member of this platform.
Nairaland is actually one of the biggest online forum in Africa,so we also have quite a good number of foreigner who are members and guest who will be reading some of our comments and will consciously or subconsciously use it to diss us in the upcoming time.

Rome wasn't built in a day but they will get there one day.Btw they were once ranked the 3rd best movie industry in the world at a time, is that a fact or a fallacy?

Most of the Nollywood producers lack the basic skill in film production and it will be difficult to get it right.
It is just the normal system of cut and nail and who know man.
They will employ their brothers, sisters and friends to act in films and what do you expect.
What training did they pass through, where is the Nollywood school after donkey years.
There is no structure on ground.
That third in the world is in terms of quantity as 95 percent lack quality.
I hope they do improve as it will be to our benefit.

By the way a Nigerian once invented an amphibious vehicle that can operate on land and air. Why cant innoson motors try
and partner with him and do something.

NOte: Why cant nollywood show a film about Nigerian inventors and mathematicians.
It will bring science into the Nigerian or African narrative

There are several things they can venture into that is different from what has been done before but they choose to remain stagnant and just recycling scripts.
