Good moves .

Why do we then have places designated as markets if the streets can be commandeered for such activity.

Besides defacing the city, they also serve as sources of refuse that litters the scenery and breeds rodents and flies which on their own could cause an epidemiological health outbreak.

I know my people will misconstrue this laudable exercise as an attack on people from a certain ethnic nationality but come on, can't government sanitize its environment without such cheap blackmails?

Is it not here we read how a woman had her deep fried full cow and 2 rams meat confiscated in the UK for contravening their laws. If such were to happen here, different ethnic and religious colouration will be read into it.

Lagos is leading by example.

You'll never see this kind of streets in Lagos. Everywhere is always jam-packed and an eyesore. It is very much different here in Abuja.
There are social benefits for unemployed in such places.

I always wonder why the authorities never try to nip violations in the bud... always waiting until things get wayyy out of hand. But I hope the determined sellers continue to do so ... prisoners ... orphans ... patients in the public hospitals and even the poor would receive better food at no extra cost to the providers.

All the hypocrites on this topic , I am just reading your comments. Even those dem Mama follow dey sell Fufu and ewedu for express, get mouth dey talk

Meanwhile, I was informed that some soldiers who claimed Lagos as their state of origin , were arrested during thier screening exercise . Whenever you tell other people to go back to their villages , note that Osun is not Lagos State.

I didn't see any post saying ethnic profiling, meaning the governor has always been right just that some persons are emotionally attached to the wrong thing. Kudos governor Sanwo.

How old were you when you discovered you are a fool. It must be sad to live your life. You failed to realize that the government has built new markets and there are tons of market everywhere where they can easily display their wares and sell. Each time the government takes a step to sanitize, fools like you will scream victimization or creation of crime. The last time I checked, those who are in the market are selling without disturbance.

As a Nigerian, I just don't know what to say./should I blame the petty traders who are trying to make a living but go against government regulations? Or blame the government who have made the country unbearable.

Displaying edibles on a roadside is not even hygienic in any way. Nigerians need to stop patronizing anyone displaying food items in this manner.
In what better ways can this be done to make these perishable goods affordable for the over 70% poor masses please tell us.

These are poor market women who are just trying to earn a living for their families. These people apparently cannot afford to pay for shops and yet they and their families must survive somehow

At best, they should have been politely asked to remove their goods, seizing their goods is the height of wickedness for me

This is a government that has not done anything tangible to cushion the impact of sudden hike in fuel prices. Government policies have to be implemented with a human face

Mannabbqgrillss, the government needs to be firm and decisive sometimes. This sellers can be a nuisance to traffic and they can be unruly when confronted. I hope this serves as a deterrent. I also would appeal that they be made to pay a small fine and then collect their goods.

I don't get why Nigerians do this. I expect that with our level of education we should know better.

You can't always make excuses for this ills. If them comot agbero, crime go plenty.

If dem ban Okada, crime go plenty . They did and what happened?

So, the government shouldn't do what is right? If a ban affects one, the next thing is to start having ill and negative thoughts? You want to use that to justify crime . Well, once caught, it's Gulag straight. Such excuses don't and will never make sense

Always quick to insult without anything in ur brain. How much in profit do you think those aboki make from sales of their goods? Patapata 500 bucks, that less than $1 a day meaning they are poor but striving to live. When you remove means of livelihood from an already poor person What do you think his next option will be to survive especially aboki? Una mumu just dey irritating this year. Even when they leave the road and enter the streets pushing their goods, your lazy good for nothing owomida brodas will still confront them to collect from them.

They should come to boundary market in ajegunle, those traders have reduced a 3 lane road to 1 lane.it takes me close to 30mins just to maneuver to get to the main road something that will take a minute when driving at midnight when the road is free.

If I say Nigerians are the problem of Nigerian.
These people selling items on the road, are causing massive gridlock on our roads, aside that we waste quality productive time with these sellers who have zero regards to pedestrians.

Kai officials are also one the problem. They levy these sellers on weekly payment otherwise they would have desist from shading their market on pedestrian.

Hygienically, it's so wrong to expose edibles by road sides. You will see food like garri, salts sugar etc being exposed to dust and we av food regulating agencies in Nigeria.

Kai human are wicked.

Lagos state need to go tough on all these fellow. You will see these people abandoned the main market building to shade on the main road.
Not in every circumstance. For this one, if truly enough notice was given, then the government can't be blamed. However, the shops that government builds are given out to traders at exorbitant costs, and most times through man-know-man. Traders have their own challenges, too. That is not to say they should break the law.
