These are poor market women who are just trying to earn a living for their families. These people apparently cannot afford to pay for shops and yet they and their families must survive somehow

At best, they should have been politely asked to remove their goods, seizing their goods is the height of wickedness for me

This is a government that has not done anything tangible to cushion the impact of sudden hike in fuel prices. Government policies have to be implemented with a human face
they just built a modern market for these people in mushin, why are they still on the road?
I stay in Lagos and am yoruba but I don't support when we become stubborn and refuse to adhere to instructions

Mandate1:

Re: Lagos Government Seizes Goods Displayed By Traders Along Highway (Pics, Video) by Love800(m): 6:31pm On Jan 06
So those selling suya make 500bucks in a day?
Dont believe.
43Ronin:

Always quick to insult without anything in ur brain. How much in profit do you think those aboki make from sales of their goods? Patapata 500 bucks, that less than $1 a day meaning they are poor but striving to live. When you remove means of livelihood from an already poor person What do you think his next option will be to survive especially aboki? Una mumu just dey irritating this year. Even when they leave the road and enter the streets pushing their goods, your lazy good for nothing owomida brodas will still confront them to collect from them.

all what is on the wheelbarrow, can it buy a container? And if at all the container can be afforded, whr will it be placed?

I understand the fact you blame this traders for whatever nuisance they constitute to the roads, but have you asked yourself what other alternative do they have, and what has the society made available to them. In the evening, the same govt officials will go and sell ticket to the traders for selling on those places. See, the fabrics of our society needs reset.

That shouldn't be an excuse to display wares along express, jeopardizing other people's safety by congesting the road.
If a vehicle lost control now,it will crush those traders immediately.
So those displaying their wares along the express are putting their own lifes and the lifes of motorists in danger just because they want to make ends.
Sure, things are quite hards recently, but that shouldn't be an excuse.
I hope you understand?
Sir, chill.

Let's say the traders are very stubborn. But ponder on this. Can they afford to rent a shop? If no, what alternative has the govt provided for them poor traders to sell and fend from? Back in the days we had open kiosks in every market for these traders to sell. Markets are built at far distance from the road. It's your govt and it's official that will build very close to the roads just to make more money. The city plan is designed just to make money and not look beautiful. Don't blame the poor who are trying to survive.

Trying to survive should be done within the law. Drive through oyinbo and see whole tarred streets blocked.

do oyinbo have a proper market structure to accommodate both the rich and poor? Do they have a decent car park and a wider street? Ur ansa will solve all these. Leadership is the bane here.

You'll never see this kind of streets in Lagos. Everywhere is always jam-packed and an eyesore. It is very much different here in Abuja.

Abuja and Lagos are not closed to be called a city.

The picture U posted below can be at least likened to South Africa cities, not Nigerian cities.

They should pack them all.
Very selfish market women

They will display their wares on the walkway, even when the road is under construction and expect you to walk on red muddy road.

The other day, my son's school bag hit and broke a woman's bottle she put on the gutter that serves as walkway. I was expecting her to tell me to pay.

They actually have markets, stalls, shops etc, you then have those without shops that place their goods on the streets shop owners then have to extend their ware from the shops to the road proper to compete.
Bottomline, because police officers are supposedly poorly paid does not give them the right to extort people, if the job is not OK they ought to resign, the fact youths are unemployed does not give them the right to turn to robbery, the fact a wife does not give the hubby kpekus does not justify him knacking the house help etc just as government not dashing people shops does not give them the right to intrude on roadways.

Make them come to Iyana-Ipaja, especially during evening rush hours, as that is the headquarters for displaying items on the roadside. The annoying part is that I have seen KAI officials allocating certain parts of the roads for their use, while pedestrians and motorists struggle to use the roads.

Lagos state government are just jokers. They cannot implement anything. Its just gra gra for few weeks and everything fall back to 'normal'. What happens to Okadas? They are everywhere on Lagos express ways.
