Yes, it is.
But you need patience.
When you start, you need 6 months of constant uploading of contents before you can start to think about making money. After the six months, you need to be patient more for another six months or 1 year to make money on it, depending on your contents.
Blogging made me hold 100 dollar note fr the very first time.
I made my first 100 dollar after one year of starting blogging. I got it from UBA Bank, snapped picture with it and changed it through a security guard.
I made another 100 dollar in another 5 months.
However, I couldn't sustain the payment of the yearly subscription for hosting, and that was why I stopped.
Once I am a bit financially buoyant again, I will continue.
Blogging is also fun.

Blogging is like POS business. It was highly lucrative it it's early stages, but as time went on, it became over saturated. Today you'll find 20-30 POS operators on one street. Surely such business can't be profitable cos they'll have to struggle to share the little customers that comes their way.

Same with blogging. Years back Linda Ikeji made millions from it. But today it's been oversaturated. Hungry bloggers with fake click bait stories have made people dislike anything blogging. So if you go into it, there's a very high possibility that you'll have very little traffic on your blog. Thus leaving you hungry and malnourished.

Blogging is not only about entertainment.
You can blog about ANYTHING.
I mixed uploading of music (of different genres- made a lot of money here), sermons, stories, employment opportunities (made a lot of money from this), health stuffs (made a lot of money too)

On the topic, I consider myself an authority. I have been into blogging and I have trained bloggers in the past.

Here is the thing.

There are different types of Blogging.

1. Linda Ikeji's kind of blogging where you have a website where people can type your url on their browser.

You see this one, its not profitable again. Don't waste your time. Your almighty Linda Ikeji and Stella and Olorisupagirl and all of them are losing traffic by the day. The only saving grace they have is the small traffic that comes through Google Search. If you are thinking of having your own website or blogger to start a blogging business, you are in for a long thing. Its not worth your time and effort. People don't visit blogs again.

2. Tunde Ednut kind of blogging where you use social media to post different things that comes to your mind.

Social media is the real thing now. If you know your way around it, you can be the next gistlover or Tunde Ednut. People wont type your url on their web browser but they will like to follow your Instagram and Facebook pages if you have something interesting and stupid to offer. Yes, something stupid because most social media bloggers post stupid stuffs before they can blow. People don't like things that make sense.

And if you want to go through this route, you must be really dedicated because the number of social media bloggers out there is mind boggling. Hundreds of new pages are created everyday with the aim to be like Gistlover or Tunde. The competition out there will kill you. But this one seems like a better route for you.

But if you are my brother and you ask me for advise, I will just tell you to go and do something else with your life.
you are 100% right here. Building social media pages is the best way to go especially if you want to go for blogging.

Forget that blogging stuff and go set up a YouTube channel.

One guy just takes his camera around showing fine houses and mansions and he has blown big time with over a million subscribers. That’s major income.

Just choose your favourite niche and start a YT channel. You can even be sampling Naija food in Buka and be uploading videos on that.

Or you can focus on club scene, or showing new projects and infrastructure, or traditional festivals, etc. Your target audience should be diaspora guys in US, UK etc.

Imagine being in their shoes. What videos would YOU love to see about Naija?

Brainstorm on that, and then supply it.

Be committed. Upload consistently. You will clean up.

The algorithm is a bigger challenge on social media. But once it clicks, boom.

Did your friend have to pay for some boosting and likes?

Because growing on YouTube is easier said than what's beneath the carpet.

Thanks for the contribution.

Blogging is as easy as ABC this is coming from someone who started blogging last year.

Don't start a blog without knowing the following.

1 keyword research pay someone invest and do anything to learn keyword research.

Here's why.

Your success and failure with blogging start with keyword research.

2 on-page SEO.

If you can't write content that's easy for google to crawl rendered index and rank. Please find another online business

You'll be working for hosting companies for a long time.

3 great content.

I'll summarize great content in the voice of Blair warren.

People will do anything for those who

Encourage their dreams
Justify their failure
Allay their fears
Help throw rocks at their enemies.

If you can do this you'll have repeated visitors who will share your content and be your true believer.

But that's not all.

This is how you can get endorsement and deals from bigger website because their goals is just like us own.

In the world of ai people what personality ai is not going to cut it.

Ai can help speed writing but it's not there yet to just publish ai content.

If you're writing take into consideration the following.

Semantics Seo
Information game score
LSI

Ai cannot do all of these effectively.

If you get nothing else from this please know this

GOOOOGLE CAN'T READ.

Google uses user signals (what users are doing on your page (the Google lawsuit shows they do)

4link building haro press release etc.

The person who said his friend got penalties was using pbn.

All those threads you see pay $5 for links are all pbn a good link from a reputable site cost $150-200.

You can get links if you can write content that will rank on page one of google.

FIND easy keyword you know you can rank on page one and you can make money.

Aviod following the SEO nerds (they are wired to fall into a ditch)

The majority of SEO advice are just opinion and shinny object.

Learn keyword research
Sit down and learn how to write how to rank page doing only on-page SEO
Sit down and write more content.

Income school shows how to write fast find their channel on how to write a blog post in an hour.

Sit down and write.

I wrote one blog post every day for 3 months so go figure and I'm even lazy.

Blogging is hard work if you think you can pay people to write for you without first understanding knowing and getting how to rank yourself.

Your duty is to pay them well while their duty is to deliver to you good writing.

You are not his friend you have to take control if not then go give you ai content.

Fastseo can testify with his 2m naira lesson about writers here on nairaland.

If you can't invest in a tool like semr.ush please use your money buy sharwama.

Don't work for hosting companies.

You need to continue to learn from people who test not those who give you their opinion.

SEO gurus are full of bs telling you their opinion like it's the gospel.

I've been successful in less than a year of blogging because.

I understand my audience and I give them what they want.

Ezoic approved my site for premium in less than 6 months.

Affiliate sites like peaches and cream came begging for me to promote their products while others paid me to put their banner on my site.

Recurring payment every month.

Despite update here and there I'm still ranking on page one for many competitive keyword.

Here's people and channels you need to follow.

SEO fight club
Juststart on reddit
Lee Witcher
Ted kubaitis
My big oga Kyle roof

These names are tester's people who know how google algorithm works.

The best decision I've made was buying Kyle roof on-page SEO course from a nairalander here by name haggai247.

I brought the course and ask Kyle roof questions.

He replied but my email was not on the list of people who brought the course.

Wahala abi but no he encourage me to join SIA and IMG.

I became an SEO tester the rest they say is history.

Join Sia join IMG and other testing group.

Better still find a mentor to hold you buy the hand(I no dey do mentoring ooo dm sef I no dey answer)

Get SEO course from haggai247
And keyword research tools like sem.
Rush from nerdnextdoor

Don't go and buy expensive hosting ooo use hostkoala or chechu to figure this for at least a year.

For WordPress use the fastest theme generate press or studio press.

Aviod bloated plugin like elementor or page builders.

You should not have more than 15 plugins the more plugin the more likely them go hack you.

Mathis torogo logo make I rest small.

Sip my mwenge bigere.

An expert blogger is here!

Do people actually make easy money on blogging?

Absolutely! People are making money on blogging through different monetization channels such as Ad display, banner display, affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, guest posts, etc.

Is it something you can advise me to go for?

It depends on your skills. If you're someone who loves writing, blogging is the number one method I will recommend for you to make money online.

The major reason you see many people start blogging and quit soon is because they don't have the skills. They're just after money not to offer value.

If you're willing and ready to dedicate your time to expressing your knowledge, interest or passion with others through writing, then go for blogging.

If you don't have a passion for writing, you may want to consider alternatives that align with your skills such as

- Vlogger e.g. YouTuber and TikToker (if you love talking).
-Social media manager (if you love gisting or chatting).
-Affiliate marketer (if you love marketing or influencing people).

And what are the challenges faced on blogging?

There are different challenges in blogging that can be categorized into three:

1. Time-demanding: You need to be frequently updating your blog with new content which is the whole idea of blogging. The content creation process can be time-consuming as it involves researching, writing, editing, publishing, and sharing your content. Although you can use tools and automation to save time on some of the tasks, you will still be actively involved in most of the process.

2. Traffic generation: There are two major ways you can attract traffic to your blog β€” organic (free) and Ads (paid). The free method allows you to explore options like SEO, social media networks, guest posts and other organic ways to generate free traffic to your blog. The popular free option is SEO. With SEO, you position your blog content to suit humans and search engines like Google. That way, when someone searches for something on Google, for example, Google will recommend your blog on the result pages (SERP). But this channel requires fundamental knowledge of SEO. Another top free method to generate traffic to your blog is social media. This has much to do with understanding social media marketing. Finally, if you want to get fast traffic to your blog without much stress, then you should run adverts on search engines or social media networks. Contacting influencers in your niche is another popular paid method for traffic generation.

3. Slow earnings: It may take 3-6 months to start generating significant income from your blog depending on your monetization methods and commitment. The easiest way to monetize your blog is through Ad display using Ad networks such as Google Adsense. But Ad display earnings are usually lower as they depend on the number of visitors your blog has. The higher the traffic the more your earnings. As a beginner blogger, it may take time to start generating significant traffic from your blog. That's why you want to diversify your blog monetization options by using affiliate marketing, sponsored posts and guest posts which can earn you quick and higher earnings than Ad display.

What are the basic tools needed to hit the ground running?

Before you hit the ground running, seek knowledge first β€” not tools. Visit Google or YouTube to learn "how to create a blog as a beginner." You will learn about the core blogging tools through the guides.

But generally, you only need a hosting and domain name to get started.

After that, you can connect your blog to WordPress (the easiest content management system).

From there, you will design your blog and add plugins that can help customize and improve the performance of your blog.

Other major tools you need for blogging include:

-Keyword search tool like Ahrefs (for researching what your target audience is looking for on search engines if you want to attract traffic through SEO)
-Grammarly (for grammar corrections)
-Canva (for designing unique images for your blog posts)
-Google Docs: (for drafting and writing your content if you don't want to do so directly on WordPress like me).

If you want inspiration and writing ideas, you can use ChatGPT. I don't recommend using AI 100% to produce a blog post. You can get your ideas from there and write yourself or generate the entire content from AI and thoroughly edit it to give it a human tone.

My two cents!

Blogging isn't restricted to news. Blogging is about producing content that you're passionate/knowledgeable about to a community that's curious/passionate about it.

Blogging could be about cooking, gadgets, travel etc.
Unfortunately, many Nigerians can only do news blogs because they either don't have the substance to produce quality content or they're too lazy to put in the hardwork required to build a successful blog.

Is it something you can advise me to go for?

And what are the challenges faced on blogging?

What are the basic tools needed to hit the ground running?

Thanks

Yes, but you need consistency, plus finance.

With only consistency, it will take roughly 2-3yrs to start making good money.

But with finance, in less than 8 month, you will be raking in dollar bills.
