Inflation To Fall In 2024 — CBN Governor, Cardoso by Paraman: 2:46pm On Jan 24
The Central Bank of Nigeria’s governor expects headline inflation to fall to 21.4 per cent in 2024.

The apex bank’s governor disclosed this during his keynote speech at the launching of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group macroeconomic outlook report for 2024.

He said, “Inflationary pressures are expected to decline in 2024 due to the CBN’s inflation-targeting policy, which aims to rein in inflation to 21.4 per cent.”

According to him, the inflation targeting will help the government in its battle against inflation which hit 28.9 per cent in December. Lower rates will ultimately affect businesses, he alluded.

“The outlook for decreasing inflation in 2024 will have a profound impact on businesses, providing a more predictable cost environment and potentially leading to lower policy rates, stimulating investment, fueling growth, and creating job opportunities,” Cardoso said.

That's common knowledge for anyone following world economics. The US, Canada, EU e.t.c have stopped raising interest rate. There will likely be cuts starting from middle of this year.

Inflation does not fall just by releasing media statements..

Action, Action... what are they doing to bolster the economy??

Why the overdependecy in "dollar"?

I still can't understand why when someone need to pay their supplier in China, their children 's school fees or medical bills abroad.. they have to go to BDC to "buy" dollar and then come and deposit the dollar in a bank to effect the transfer?

It's not like the bank will carry the money cash to deposit to bank of England or bank of China or bank of India.. the transaction is run electronically so why can't individuals just go to their bank and conduct a Wire transfer at an official rate.. their bank deducts the money in naira from their account and wire the money to the intended recipients abroad??

Idiot thinks ALL Nigerians are idiots.

What EXACTLY are the "inflation-targeting policies" he's referring to?

Anybody with commonsense knows this is NONSENSE.

Inflation is NOT going to fall. Even if the nominal wuruwuru calculations show a reduced inflation rate, it would be a LIE.

Basic concept of inflation is too MUCH money chasing too FEW goods.

Farmers CANNOT enter their farms to produce goods because of BANDITS. Which means fewer goods would make it to the market.

In other words, the hungry population would be left to battle for the little that do make it to the market, hence INFLATION.

FOR IMPORTED GOODS:

Too FEW dollars available for so MUCH Naira.

So importers would have to pay MORE to get their dollars which translates to HIGHER purchase prices that would be transferred to the final consumers.

Hence, INFLATION!

So WTF is Cardoso talking about?

Summary: If your transport fare is #1,500 Naira, expect it to reach #1,800 Naira by end of the year, instead of #2,000 Naira.

Las las, prices of goods and services will still increase this year.

Hmm.... inflation targeting when almost everything consumed is imported. Importation has many parts to play in our inflation and except we are targeting all those ways in which importation leads to inflation, this might end up being more talk than reality.
