Isn’t Dangote buying a Nigerian crude oil in dollars?
Crude oil is sold in dollars my friend, so Nigeria earns fix by selling to Dangote.

TimeManager:
Can we try and be reasonable for once, everything shouldn't go by wailing and all that. What's our production per month?, we currently on 1.7mbp, do you expect we offload all our production to Dangote without selling abroad to earn FX?. Dangote and other refineries coming up would have to source crude from various buyers to augument the supply from NNPCL.
Dangote refinery requires 6million feedstock of crude oil to start production.
NNPCL does not have 6million supplies to give Dangote.

So Nigerians will be the ones suffering for other countries abi? Dangote buys crude oil in USD causing our currency to depreciate less than our neighbours. Neighbouring countries will then cross over to Nigeria and import our very cheap oil to them due to high currency value they have over Naira. Last last, Nigerians suffer the most.

There is no cheap oil anywhere except countries on sanction such as Russia and Iran.

Neighbouring countries will buy at the same rate any other country will buy, not cheap, not expensive.
Nigeria has no cheap oil, if it does, Dangote won't bother importing from the US.
The strength or weakness of a country's currency has nothing to do with it.
Whether your currency is USD or Chinese Yuan, you will buy at the same rate. That is production cost+ profit.

Stop commenting on what you don't understand!

Crude oil is sold in futures contracts
You don't just go to the market and buy crude oil like going to a petrol station

If somebody plants corn in January a trader can pay him in January for an August scheduled harvest

That is how futures contract work
S if NNPC has already sold the oil before it comes out of the ground and Buhari has already spent the money what is NNPC supposed to tell those who have paid for the oil

The other thing about futures contract is risk
No one can predict what the price will be
The buyer might pay $80 for August delivery and come August the market price is 120 his Gain or 60 his loss.
Dangote did not enter futures contract probably because he was not sure when his refinery would become operational

So we don't have crude to sell to Dangote? Or is it confirming news going around that Buhari sold and collected money for crude in advance, so whatever that's being produced now has been paid for and the money spent by the last government, what we don't know is how.many years this deal will last.

We are in a deep shit.

Sometimes you already have contracts in place.

Right of first of refusal.

People fail to understand that Dangote is a private business out to make profit. Only a foolish business man will depend on one source for his raw materials, if he has the capacity to refine various crude so nothing stops him from buying from wherever he chooses. If Nigeria has crude always available for him then that's a plus else's business must go on.

Do you know that Nigeria as a country has 20 percent stake in that refinery?

Dangote and co (political rogues and crooks) about to become Nigeria's largest importers of refined fuel. grin grin

Only a born lunatic will believe this crude story. Why would Dangote run all the way to the U.S. to import crude for una? Do you people have sense at all??

The newspaper refinery is a fraud. The rogue is not ready to refine anything.

Dangote importing oil with the little dollars we make will definitely add pressure to the naira.

Who do we offend for 9ja

Really.. so you believe that Dangote importing crude oil to supplement the crude supply from the Nigerian surces, will put more pressure on the naira, than whole sale importation of finished product from abroad?

How old are you by the way?

How are you keeping the govt on their toes? By complain?

The only way to keep a democratic govt on it's toes is through free and fair election. Now what is a free and fair election?
As far as inec is being setup by the federal govt instead of an autonomous judiciary you are just joking you can't keep any govt on it's toes

The CBN gave tens of billions of dollars to dangote at cheap official rate with the expectation that it would save the country foreign exchange in return. If dangote wanted to import crude at global prices to for his refinery, he should have built the refinery with funds from oversees investors and not with cheap CBN dollars.
I see dangote as a person who had always feasted on the loopholes in the Nigerian society.
He had probably want to be taking oil free or boycotting normal payment to Nigeria for his own personal wealth and business.
But behold he met president Tinubu a shrewd auditor who understands all the processes.
Today Tinubu announced that selling of oil is now with the CBN and NNPC is just to product and now Dangote is saying he is going elsewhere for his oil.
What this tells me is that dangote feels he should be worshipped and want to hold Nigeria by the jugular by blackmailing or boycotting Nigeria oil.
All this administration should do is ensure the portharcourt refinery and others including the one by BUA comes on board quickly. This will remove monopoly which dangote crave for. In the end he will come and beg

Nothing strange. They can refine and supply beyond the Nigerian market, so they will be happy to take on foreign oil to keep their refinery in production.

This is a private-sector business.

NNPC prefer to supply crude oil to India than to supply to Dangote

Nigeria oil is already mortgaged to pay and services loans,so Dangote have to look elsewhere for his supply.
