Investigation has revealed that the Dana Air aircraft, which skidded off the runway earlier in the week was 27 years and 3 months as at the time of its crash. The aircraft, an MD83 with the registration number 5N-SRI was manufactured in November 1990 and was among the oldest aircraft in the fleet of the airline. The investigation indicated that the aircraft was previously used by Alaska Airlines in the United States under the registration number N947AS and was delivered to the airline on December 7, 1990. However, the investigation further revealed that after 18 years of usage of the aircraft by Alaska Airlines, Dana Air acquired the aircraft from the American carrier on a permanent basis on August 4, 2008, when it commenced flight operations as an airline operator in Nigeria. The aircraft would have clocked 10 years with Dana Air on August 4, 2008, if it had not crashlanded on Tuesday. The youngest aircraft in the fleet of Dana Air is a 21 and half years aircraft, MD83 with the registration number: 5N-BKI, which was equally acquired from Afrijet, another Nigerian airline on October 5, 2014, with the same registration number. History of the aircraft indicated that it was first delivered to U-Land Airline on September 25, 1996, by the manufacturer. The aircraft was however leased to Astro Air International in October 1997 under the registration number: B-88899. After about nine months of usage, Astro Air International leased the aircraft to Air Philippines in July 1998, before Afrijet acquired it in January 2008. Another old aircraft in the fleet of the airline is another MD 83 with the registration number: 5N-DEV. The aircraft is 26 and half years old. Before Dana Air acquired the airplane on May 11, 2012, it was previously used by four airlines. The first owner of the aircraft was Guinness Peat Aviation (GPA) and it was delivered to it on September 19, 1991, with the registration number EI-CCE. The airline leased the aircraft to Avianca on March 11, 1992, with the same registration number, but the airline on March 16, 2010, changed the registration number to HK-4587, after eight years of usage and total acquisition from the former owner. However, the aircraft was sold to Jet Midwest Group of the United States on July 6, 2011, under the registration number N934JM until Dana Air acquired it from the American airline on May 11, 2012, and changed the registration number to 5N-DEV. Dana Air is now left with just two aircraft in its fleet from the former six at its peak period as one of its aircraft crashed in a Lagos suburb in 2012 killing all passengers on board. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/02/crash-landed-dana-air-flight-was-27.html

The Taraba State Government has temporarily suspended the Anti-Open Grazing law in the state. The decision came after three days of interactive sessions between the National Economic Council Technical sub Committee on ending herders/farmers crisis, and key stakeholders in the state. Leader of the NEC technical sub-committee and Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State disclosed this to journalists at the end of the three-day interactive session, in Jalingo. They commended Governor Darius Ishaku for accommodating the review of the law after it has been duly passed by the state Assembly in order to put an end to herdsmen/Farmers clash. “It is our finding that the Miyetti Allah refused to appear at the public hearings organized by the state while this Bill was under consideration and so could not lay their complaints on areas that affected them negatively. “After much deliberation, we have agreed that certain of the law should be revisited to reflect the complaints that arise from this interaction. That means despite the grace period given earlier, more grace period would still be granted during which these issues would be looked into and the pioneer ranches would be set up. “I think it is important to acknowledge and appreciate the leadership model displayed by the committee who listened dispassionately to the issues raised by all the parties and has agreed to give room for the complaints made by some stakeholders to be factored into the law. I am sure this would mark the end of herders farmers crisis in the state”, Umahi said. Governor Umahi added that both farmers and herders had agreed to sheathe their swords. The State’s anti open grazing bill was signed into law on 24th July, 2017 but only came into partial effect on the 24th January, 2018 after a six months grace period declared by the governor. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/02/taraba-suspends-anti-open-grazing-law.html

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored a century of goals for real Madrid in the UEFA champions league competition after converting from the penalty spot, he is the first player ever to achieve this deed with a single team. Ronaldo stepped up in the final minutes of the first half to convert a penalty against Paris Saint-Germain after Tony Kroos was pulled down in the area. That leveled the score at 1-1 in the Champions League last-16 first leg match at the Santiago Bernabeu, canceling out Adrien Rabiot’s 33rd minute goal for the visitors. The spot-kick saw Ronaldo become the only player in history to score 100 goals with the same club in the Champions League, adding to the 15 he had scored with Manchester United prior to his arrival in the Spanish capital. However, Ronaldo may not be alone in that feat for long. Barcelona star and rival Lionel Messi stands at 97 goals in the Champions League, with Barcelona squaring off against Chelsea on Feb. 20 in the first leg of their last-16 tie. The goal also allowed Ronaldo continue his impressive goal scoring streak as he has now scored at least 10 goals in seven consecutive Champions League seasons. No other player has reached that mark in more than two consecutive seasons. The Madrid star added a second for Los Blancos to make it 2-1 in the 84th minute, taking his Champions League tally to 101 with the Spanish giants, while an 87th minute strike from Marcelo handed the home side a commanding 3-1 lead, which they will carry to Paris for the second leg on March 6. It’s also a reminder that while Ronaldo has struggled at times this season, he has remained a dominant figure in Europe’s premier competition. He has scored 11 times in seven Champions League games this campaign, compared to 11 goals in 18 La Liga matches. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/02/cristiano-ronaldo-makes-another-history.html

The observance of Ash Wednesday and celebration of Valentine’s Day on Feb.14 has generated mixed feeling among a section of Nigerians. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Ash Wednesday is the ceremony to commence the Lenten period and entails fasting and abstinence from eating meat while Valentine’s Day is a day set aside to celebrate Love. The two celebrations coinciding on Feb. 14, 2018, has generated discussions by people on the propriety to celebrate Valentine’s Day in the usual way or not. A cross section of residents in Mararaba, Nasarawa State believes that the two events coinciding on the same day was something special. A Catholic priest, Rev. Father, Eugene Irobmez, said Nigerian Churches should focus on Ash Wednesday, to mark the beginning of lent, the time of reflection and penitence. According to Irobmez, the two events first coincided 60 years ago, when Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday were celebrated on the same day. Irobemz said that the tradition of the church was that the Ash Wednesday surpassed every other day, because it was a day of obligation. “It is a day of obligation when Christians are encouraged to fast and abstain from meat, a day of obligation supersede Valentine’s Day. “Valentine’s Day is not a feast of solemnity, but it is a memorial day; a day to be remembered. So, in this case, solemnity supersedes Memorial Day,’’ the priest said. Irobemz explained that Ash Wednesday was the beginning of lent, an official day Christians fast, asked for forgiveness of sin and a day of soberness. He, however, noted that valentine could be celebrated any other day. “Since it is a day to show love, showing of love can be celebrated any other day like on Sunday because we do not usually fast on Sundays. “You cannot reconcile a sober period with a day of celebration; when a priest gives ashes to people, it signifies that you should remember that we are dust, unto dust we shall return. “The life we have now is temporal, there is a final destination for everyone, which we have to prepare for, because the day is close,” Irobemz said. Meanwhile, some residents NAN that the coincidence in the double celebration was a setback describing Ash Wednesday as a day of abstinence. Mr Tony David, a resident said, “We are not allowed to eat meat that day and with the Valentine celebration of showing love, eating meats and drinking is the main thing. “As a Christian, my religious obligation is supreme for me to make heaven. I will just sacrifice the love for meat this valentine. “However, I know that next year, Ash Wednesday and Valentine’s day will not fall on the same day,’’ he said. Miss Maria Michael, a student of Nasarawa State University, said she would celebrate the Valentine’s Day in a special way in spite of the fact it was the beginning of lent. “I already know that Ash Wednesday is a day to remember that we are ashes and to ashes we shall return, but eating good food to be alive is also necessary. “I will not lie; I am going to eat chicken that day with my boyfriend because that is the only opportunity that my guy will take care of me in special way. “He can also fast any other day but on that Feb.14 it will be something different because the environment will be filled with love and we have to flow with it,’’ she said. Mrs Chioma Jude said that Ash Wednesday happens to be a day of fasting, when you seek the face of God and asked for pardon. “Such day cannot be sacrificed for anything not even Valentine; one can still celebrate love any other day with his or her loved ones,” she said. Mrs Esther Daniel said “as for me, my husband and I will go and receive our Ash in the morning and later in the evening we will celebrate our Valentine’s Day because of the necessity.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/02/serious-controversy-among-nigerians-on.html

In his words’ When asked if he had taken a break from music, he said: “Yes. My music is on hold, because I needed to focus on this great opportunity that came to my doorsteps. Jenifa’s Diary is a big project, you can see we have been winning awards here and there. We as a family, have our hands full already in different productions. As busy as you have described your wife and as budding as your skills are in cooking, how does your wife still have time to cook for you? Or doesn’t she? Why not? Yes, she does. It is said that the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Definitely, she cooks amazingly, but I told her to stop, so she can get enough rest. Most times, she would insist, because she wants to take care of her man. But I always insist, as we now have chefs. Was it her cooking skillz that attracted you to her My wife is a fantastic cook, she’s an amazing woman. Everything about her attracted me to her. It’s not only one thing that attracts a man to a woman, but definitely, the cooking is a plus and my wife has it all. I would want to eat her meals for the rest of my life. So, how does it feel being married to a popular actress? To be honest, I lived the better part of my life in the UK, so I didn’t really know who Funke Akindele was. When I met her, I just met someone that wanted a director for her TV show; Jenifa’s Diary. That was in 2013. We have been going on for a long time, people just found out in 2016. We were very low keyed, because we are two popular people in the entertainment industry. We had to protect our privacy. He also shared exactly how their path crossed, “She wanted someone to direct her TV series, then I was about to embark on recording the JJC album then. Her sister introduced us, because she knew I was into music video directing. So, when I met her, she told me she did a movie sometime ago and would like to turn it into a TV series. We started working together and preparing for the shoot, then one thing led to another. Here we are today, the rest is history. We just clicked. It sounds like love at first sight.Well, I would say so, because first time I saw her, I was wowed. She also told me the same thing. We tried to keep the whole work as professional as possible but along the line, emotions ran high then asked how was the proposal? I’m a romantic person, so I gave her a dose of it. It wasn’t in an open place, because only very few people knew at then. So, that very day, she came home to meet flowers, candles everywhere; quite a romantic set up. When she saw it, she had no choice than to say ‘Yes’. The Minister of Solid Mineral Development, Kayode Fayemi, has spoken on running in the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti State. He said “we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.” The former governor also described Ekiti as a sick child needing urgent attention. Fayemi, who was a former governor of the state, in a interview with Vanguard, said the report was all political speculations, adding that he had not told anyone he was seeking reelection. Asked if he was aspiring to return to power in the governorship election in Ekiti later this year, he said, “It is the stuff of politics for people to speculate, especially as elections draw close. But there is nothing that is happening now that is new; since I left office in Ekiti in 2014, I have always made it a point of duty to host party leaders and members every quarter, and we use these gatherings to reflect on the state of the party and state of the nation. “We’ve held these meetings 12 consecutive times. Of course, based on feedback, we’ve also broadened representation at the meetings. So, the one you’ve witnessed today is very large because all wards, local governments, LCDAs, senatorial and state executives of the party were here led by our National Deputy Chairman, Engr. Segun Oni who is from Ekiti and our State Party chairman, Chief Jide Awe. Over 7,000 party chieftains came here today. “The bottom line for us is that we have to ensure that our party is well positioned and strengthened to go into elections. It has nothing to do with personal ambition or an intention to contest. I believe that is the burden leadership has thrust upon me, and I don’t want to shirk that responsibility. “The choice really for every Ekiti free-born is either to walk away and avoid Ekiti like a plague. And many have done that, particularly the elite. The alternative is to treat Ekiti as a sick child. We all know how a concerned mother treats a sick child; when a child is sick, and the child refuses to take any food and the prescribed drugs, our mothers apply tough love to that child and what is that tough love? “In Ekiti, mothers have a way of force-feeding the sick child – blocking his two nostrils, pinning his hands and legs down, before putting the food and drugs in the child’s mouth. Of course, the child will wail and cry as mothers apply this tough love, but ultimately, it is for the good of the child because, if you agree with me that Ekiti is a sick child, I leave you to speculate about the application of tough love on a sick child. As for contest or no contest, we will cross that bridge when we get there.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/02/ekiti-2018-fayemi-speaks-on.html

Nigerian singer David Adekeke also known as Baddest but popular with stage name Davido is one of those artiste that uses their influence of money to get what they want. Right from inception, most artistes are always in charge of their song creation. From the recording of lyrics to the final stage, the artiste is the executive producer of his work. However, we’ve seen artistes selling songs or co-writing songs for each other. Beyonce bought the smash hit “Irreplaceable” from Neyo, Rihanna got “Diamond” from Sia and the list is endless. However, back here in Nigeria, the case is different. Most artistes write their songs as these artistes know what it takes after being bred and educated during their early years. But there are artistes who have to rely entirely on the output of their composers and poets for them to make any meaningful music. Example of such is one of our most celebrated artiste Davido. Here are the proof I could gather from his hit songs Aye- Davido‘s 2014 hit was written by Runtown. Even though Runtown had denied it, everything about the song smelled Runtown. From the lyrics to the producer which was Tspize, Runtown’s favorite producer, the song was 100% Runtown hand work. Fia and fall- For those who don’t know, one of Davido‘s new acts Peruzzi, well he wrote Fia and Fall. The reports that went round was that Peruzzi was Davido’s Ghostwriter and Davido decided to make him an essential part of his record label and also gave him recognition by signing him to the record label. Pere- We are all familiar with the story behind this song. Apparently, while Dammy Krane was still languishing behind bars in the US, Davido bought the song “Pere” from Dammy Krane. Dammy Krane had earlier recorded the song with Producer HOD and it was one of those songs in Dammy Krane’s archives but after signing on to DMW and also in a bid to pledge loyalty and stay relevant, he sold the song to Davido. The song received a mash-up from DJ Mustard and had HOD ranting on Twitter about his loss. Gbagbe oshi- Originally sang by General Pype and produced by Shizzi, Davido probably heard the song and fell in love with it. He reached out to Pype and offered to pay over a Million Naira to get the song. Pype’s career was inrecession and he dicided to sell the song to Davido. Davido recorded the entire thing with his baritone voice and made it the lead single of his 2016 EP, Son of Mercy. Few weeks after Davido dropped the song, General Pype decided to release the original version thereby putting Davido into another mess. Like dat- Davido‘s last hit for 2017 “Like Dat” was one of those songs that was slept on in 2017. Most amazing fact is it was written by Tenie TheEntertainer. Days before it was released, Teniola tweeted that The song was written by her and gave Davido a shout-out for giving her a chance. If- no doubt over this tekno loves the 2-7 letter words title for his songs. While many won’t believe this, If was written by Tekno. Produced by Tekno, evidence gives that Tekno Miles wrote IF due to the simplicity of how the song is sung/written. Tekno has similar songs such as Pana and Diana that contain the simple style as if. With all these pointed out, one really need to ask if Davido Ever Write Any of His Songs by Himself?! http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/02/davido-may-not-be-responsible-for.html

The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari on how to handle the statement on his (Buhari’s) administration by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo. Okorocha, while addressing reporters in Owerri, the Imo State capital yesterday, told the President to take a dignified stand by replying the statement personally. The Governor pointed out that “remaining silent after the letter would amount to acquiescence.” Obasanjo had written a lengthy strong-worded statement where he advised the President to perish the thoughts of returning to power in 2019. Okorocha said “Answering the letter personally would put to rest all doubts and acrimonies it had attracted. “The letter was written at a high level, which equally required a high level answer, the president’s response would enable those interested in the number one seat to take decision.” The Governor further reiterated his position that he would not run if the president decides to have another shot. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/02/obasanjos-statement-gov-okorocha-tells.html

The Big Brother Naija campaign has been heavily criticized for having more good-looking men than ladies with housemate Bambam confirming the assertions. Housemates celebrate a week in the Big Brother Naija house as the party room was open for clubbing yesterday. All housemates dressed up all by themselves after being given the party outfit. It’s shocking to see the kind of makeup Bambam was wearing before the party time. The awkward image has got people talking on social media. In another news, One of the 2018 Big Brother Naija housemate, Alex was seen in the dressing room, flashing her boobs before the Saturday party time. Alex was trying to change her cloth for the weekend party when the slip happened. Recall that last year, one of the 2017 housemates, Tboss flashed her boobs, showing off her pierced nipples to her fellow housemates. It’s unknown whether Alex’s own was deliberate or a slip. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/02/bbnaija-shocking-makeup-photo-of.html

The Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, and the Agbekoya Farmers Association, AFA, have mobilised fighters in the Southwest against the continued killing of innocent farmers by Fulani herdsmen. The groups have vowed to adequately protect Yorubaland from herdsmen attacks. This development followed an attack on the farm of a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae. Leaders of the OPC and the Agbekoya across the South-West, who spoke with Punch, said vigilance groups have been established across the region. The National Publicity Secretary of the Agbekoya Farmers Association, said, “We have established a vigilance group and it will take off with 1 ,000 men any moment from now. “We are training others who will join later. The vigilantes, who would be on oath, will be deployed in to all the nooks and crannies of Yorubaland. “Ex- security personnel, who are now our members , are handling the training. Agbekoya from inception was established to fight for human rights. We fought for the rights of farmers during the time of the late Gen . Adeyinka Adebayo in the old Western Region. “Members of our vigilance group can carry arms; we will get licences for their guns. In any case, we are not solely depending on ammunition. Our forefathers didn’t fight with sophisticated weapons. We can fight without modern arms.” Also speaking, the coordinator of the Ondo State chapter of the OPC, Olayemi Egbeola, told the newspaper, “We have started mobilising our members across the state to flush out the killer herdsmen from our farmlands. We will get to all the nooks and crannies of the state. “We are not afraid of their weapons . Let them come with whatever weapon they have. Our people should be assured that we will conquer the marauders and flush them out of the South – West.” The Ekiti State coordinator of OPC Sola Ojo, also said, “OPC is meant to defend the Yoruba and protect our heritage. We are cautious in what we do . We take directives from the Aare Ona Kakanfo, Gani Adams. We are equal to the task even though we don’t carry AK-47 rifles. “We , however , need government support in terms of logistics so that we can move round the farms without much stress . We don’t need to carry AK – 47 before we confront murderers. We conquered Badoo criminal gang in Ikorodu without carrying guns.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/02/herdsmen-killings-opc-agbekoya-mobilize.html

Nigerian Nollywood actor and model Alex Ekubo has advised the federal government and the general public where put their money for a positive return. According to the Alex, Nollywood and the music industry is the only active industry in Nigeria and it is generating a lot to the nation compared to other industry in Nigeria. He has also urged the government to make budgetary provisions for the nation’s entertainment industry to improve quality and attract more revenue for the government. “The Federal Government should have a specific budget for entertainment sector every year, especially movie and music. They should also believe in the sector because when you believe in something, you will definitely support it and want to see it grow and succeed. Hollywood is where it is today not just because of the support they get from the government but corporations and well-meaning individuals who believe in entertainment. From my own point of view , the only sectors that are doing well in Nigeria today are the music and movie industries .When the sector is supported yearly with government budget , support from corporate organizations and well-meaning individuals , it will grow bigger and generate revenue for the government , ’’ he said . Ekubo said the challenge of little or no fund is practically what every movie maker is experiencing in the country. He stressed that many movie makers have a lot to achieve, but are only trying their best with the little resource at their disposal. The actor believes that Nollywood will be leading the entertainment industry in the world if enough is invested into it because it is rich with quality talents as it is currently ranked third. “Within the next five years, I see tremendous support for the industry; more investors, corporate bodies sponsoring production of movies and more worthy individual supporting the industry. “With those, I also believe will take our ranking to the next level. With the current revenue realized from the ‘wedding party 2’ Nollywood is sure a place to invest in. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/02/how-to-raise-revenue-alex-ekubo-tutors.html
