Without subsidy Nigerians will take to the streets... government must be intelligent enough to ensure subsidized petrol gets to Nigerians, the present way of doing this subsidy system is weak. Government should create fuel subsidy debit cards, share to Nigerians through banks, this card will allow the holder get subsidized fuel...at least the banks can be regulated, unlike the weak system of giving money to marketers.

Government should think and create solutions, we pay you elected officials way too much, to not think and proffer brilliant solutions.

Subsidy is not bad, do not throw away the baby and the bathwater, remove the fraud in subsidy and continue it. This is the only way government gives back to citizens.

Without subsidy the informal sector that feeds and supports over N200million Nigerians will dry out, no disposable income to spend after spending money on necessities like fuel, food, this means no investment, low demand, less employment and empowerment, poverty for the greater number, which leads to a vicious circle.

Or is the money and revenue of the nation for politicians alone?

Nigerian press too are not objective, this Day seem like they are partisan, allied to PDP, some of their propaganda is anti people.

That is the problem with subsides.

They grow and grow until they dwarf the budget. And become hungry monsters

Gej knew that, that's why he wanted to remove it. Tinubu did not see then. Now he sees.

And now I guess it's too late 😒

I mean even if implementated it will make or produce more hardship and harsh economy therein to the populace 😒

You can't remove petrol subsidy and devaluation Niara at the same time. That is a bad move.

Let's assume subsidy was remove and naira wasn't devaluated.....Will the situation be as worse as this?

Over to you economist....want to hear your thoughts on this? undecided
To artificially fix the rate you need huge foreign reserves which you don't have. You cannot pay for imports in naira. Their is no easy way out of this mess and it would only worsen. The government is still going around living extravagantly which creates the illusion that the country is wealthy. Countries with per capita 30 times bigger than ours you would find their politician using public transport or bicycling to work but ours are importing vehicles. Although the money would not have made a significant impact on our reserves but it would show to the masses that the political elites are also tightening. The overbloated federal government size and many state government that have no business existing as they are just another conduit for stealing (6 states + Lagos + fct) is more than enough.

This is more than enough for a president to resign

Somewhere else the PM would have relinquished his or her position.

We are inching towards anarchy.

When is Hadiza Bala submitting the names of non-performing ministers?

Our dependent on oil receipt has undermined development in other sectors of the economy and it's now more imperative that government eases the burden incurred by exporters of agro-produce and even grant tax reprieve to encourage exports.

so were you actually expecting that all that KPI shit to turn out not to be a scam?

how is dependence on oil the thing that has undermined development in other sectors?

A thread was created on looking for solutions to this problem.

Some are claiming we're broke.

I hope they also read this news that we're now paying higher subsidy after putting us through all these planless pains.

This is same reason we'll continue going in circles because even foras can be rendered useless.

People deserve their leaders.

Funny enough I am seeing the hand of God in this
This is because BAT is just being exposed and disgraced not just as being grossly incompetent, but for being hypocritical because same subsidy he rallied against GEJ,claimed does not exist, but is not only going behind the back to pay, after having stupidly floated the ₦ at the same time, but is now paying at least double what other presidents ever paid.
Who says God doesn't exist indeed!

Keep wailing ok you go wail taya but listening to all those useless sponsored news paper companies. Why can't you tell the author to name who are the few swallowing the NTrillion he is talking about? Afterall during Buhari shit administration we knew those thieves so tell the author to submit the names of the subsidy thieves and let us loud it.

However if you like wail till eternity Tinubu have 8 years to go take it or leave it, fact is fact.

who made the subsidy to grow?

if subsidy your subsidy grows and becomes hungry, then it is a living thing.

if its a living thing, who gave birth to it and how will it die?

if you say Tinubu has seen it, has he seen the subsidy in the form of freebies he enjoys as president?

At this point the only thing a person can do is laugh.

We were called Obidents for trying to prevent our present situation but some tribalistic people said we are bitter and wailers. Since the Yoruba people were dancing and advertising for Tinubu, Oya how do we solve the issue we are facing. As an Igbo man, I'm not going to protest because all the time we complain that we want a better life, other tribes call us the bane and troublemakers of Nigeria so what is the solution now.

Tinubu doesn't know what to do, the Government doesn't know what to do and the traditional heads don't know what to do.
Nigeria doesn't believe in impeachment, doesn't believe in separation and doesn't believe in holding presidents accountable.
It's my turn, it's my turn, Oya your turn has come what's next.

The funniest aspect of this whole affair is that he told Nigerians there is nothing he can do about the situation after creating hardship for everyone. It's just to laugh and watch as the great strategist shower us by force with his wisdom.

These are my suggestions:

Let NNPC and all her subsidiaries dropped all these oil proceeds in the CBN and show it to Nigerians

Let there b a law and Marshall plan to the build local industry and target an non Oil export dollar inflow to be greater than oil dollar inflow in the next 2-3yrs

Ending the subsidy was the biggest blunder Tinubu committed and floating Naira killed it all.

There's no government in the world that doesn't subsidize energy for their people inone way or the other.

And Nigerian government has in the past kept selling to Nigerians the fallacy that government has no business in doing business instead of them to cub corruption which is the bane of our problem but they kept a blind eyes because they're the biggest beneficiary of corruption.

With the current configuration of Nigeria, mindset and attitude of Nigerians, Nigeria will never work.

Untill we get our priority right, expect more sh*t to happen cos the sh*t is deeply rooted.

Mostly, only Nigerians who have never been to working Countries make this kind of statement. Nothing is subsidized no where. From Cotonou to USA. Are you paying #30k for 5 days electricity? If NO, government is subsidizing the electricity you use. It doesn’t happen is sane places.

Subsidy is an integral part of governance as long as it keeps the economy running but here, the demons in power are so naive that they can't see beyond their nose. I know of a certain European country that subsidizes their fitness centres so as to encourage people to enrol and be healthy there by saving huge money in health related issues.

The effect of subsidy removal and naira floating was multiplicative. Naira affect petrol prices and subsidy removal to affected it. Finally petrol price affected so many things. Things affected living standard.
