Hunger isn't always the motive.

These are territorial, extremely powerful, wild animals. It is very possible that lions that have just been fed will attack and kill anything that has entered their territory...and who they consider to be a potential threat to them and the rest of the pride. There are other factors beside hunger that trigger the killer instinct.

We don't know the full story. It will probably all come out in a short while.

They have to investigate and create awareness to avoid future occurrence, investigation will tell you if they have not been feeding the lion or if there are some safety measures that wasn't taken into consideration by the deceased, or if the cage is weak that made the lion to pull up and attack.
Investigation is good but how meticulous, accurate, thorough and efficient utilisation of the outcome is where my problem lies.

My own is, why killed the Lion for doing Lion things? Was killing it out of sentiments or emotions? Anyone who must domesticate a wild Animal must learn to keep the safety measures. A lion is never a pet, a wild animal is a wild animal no matter how long you feed it. Did killing the Lion serves as a deterrent to other Lion? 😀. Nigerians and emotions. Things that could only happen in Nigeria, we even blame or punish animals for our own Negligence. The animal could not have been in a tight cage and kill him. The animal did not jump out of the bush to kill him. So? RIP to the dead.

You are right. That was my department in those days. The lions enclosure is equipped with enough safety barriers. Surely, something went wrong somewhere e.g negligence or human error unknown to the man.
