Some federal civil servants on Tuesday in separate interviews with our correspondent confirmed that the Federal Government has started the payments of the November 2023 wage award.

The payment of wage awards to Nigerian workers was one of the deals agreed upon by the organised labour and the Federal Government as one of the ways to mitigate the effect of the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit popularly known as petrol.

However, the government at a time suspended the payment of the wage award, a move which was criticised by activists and other stakeholders

The development came amidst reports that the government had slashed the wage award allocation by N100bn in the 2023 supplementary budget.

The Nigeria Labour Congress had described the government’s action as dishonourable, while the Trade Union Congress also urged the government to pay civil servants the wage awards or risk industrial action.

A senior civil servant who confided in PUNCH Online, however, said some civil servants had started receiving the wage award for November 2023.

Payment came in this morning, others have also confirmed receipt in my agency,” the source said.

Another senior civil servant in one of the Federal Government-owned schools outside Abuja also confirmed the development saying,” Yes, the November 2023 wage award has been paid.”

Following an ultimatum given by the organised labour, the Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, noted that the government would again resume the payment of the wage awards.

A responsible government should not be forced to do the right thing and make life easier for its inhabitants.... However, I admire Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State for Labour, for being proactive in times like these.

The Lagos-Ibadan Express Media would not credit her in the same way that they did with the besieged Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

This is one of the worst time for a government worker in Nigeria. Wage award that was meant to be paid monthly is now paid once every three months especially whenever labour threaten to go on strike.

There is still outstanding December, January and potentially February wage awards unpaid. And you think the same government will okay the upward review of minimum wage and fully implement it?? Joke

State Government workers are not even receiving any thing even after most state allocation from FGN increased by almost 40%

This regime has weaponised poverty

Tinubu is not clueless. He is just the head of a rogue government which stands on patronage, theft, lies and corruption. You should ask whose interest his government serves. Tinubu government will whip Nigerians with thorns and scorpions until they bow and lick dust or perhaps humble themselves before the mighty hand of God and cry out to him. Tinubu is a spear in the hand of the beast system, but God will crush him and his entire generation in due time.

Another way to placate NLC from going on strike as threatened. The ping pong game with NLC continues. NLC is now been used to control the masses.

Most Nigerians dont understand how Tulubu is ruddering the Economy. All this payments they are making now is from printed naira notes. Nigeria at the moment is not earning any money, ask yourselves where this money is coming from to make payments. A time is coming where Naira notes will be like paper we will be picking on the floor. All thanks to the billions of naira being printed every single day. Advise to tulubu, you have to probe every single persons involved in bullhari administration. They call you jagaban, proof that name to all Nigerians that you are truly jagaban. You have nothing to lose, you are old and a veteran in Nigerian politics. Do this for me, do this for you, do this for all Nigerians. Let them vomit all the money they swallowed and watch Nigeria bounce back on the path of prosperity.

This gbajue government
This Tinubu is not in power to do anything for the people but for himself and his family and friends,
He has not paid a dime for the vulnerable pensioners since his promise in Sept, he does not like peace he doesn't care about vulnerable groups because he feels they cannot do anything to his government he is trying to pay the award once in a while for workers to prevent shock to his government, while he settle the political class heavily because these are the most dangerous groups who can bring down his government within a twinkle of an eye,so masses if you like be listening to be patient talks ,they are telling you, you go go Tey there,Tinubu no send gentle people
