Kobo,

I think you do not know how contracts are awarded in Nigeria, all the rail rehabilitation stuff of the FG is done using contractors, sourced by the FG and paid by the FG, the contracts are not given directly to the NRC, same with PHCN, you will be surprised that a private man giving money to PHCN to do stuff will get his work done faster than government giving the same contract out to a contractor, most of these organisations were not killed by the workers (though they are culpable), they were killed by overseers from the government, Aregbe giving money to NRC directly and supervising them will make the work go faster than the FG awarding contracts, let me give you an instance, I and a friend gave NRC an idea, we were told the contract will be hijacked by a Senator who may now decide to re award it to us, now imagine aregbe just giving NRC the money and saying oya, lets get someone who can do this, the project will be done faster because FG and Senate wahala is no longer there, hope you know that most of the contracts done are hijacked by Senators.

On the payment of salaries of workers in the state civil service, Akere said the salaries of the workers for the month of August had been paid on Tuesday, while that of September would be paid by next week.

Explaining the basis for the delay in the payment of the workers’ salaries, the commissioner said “We have to emphasize again that the delay of payment of salaries was not the fault of the government at all.

“We all know that there was a strike which lasted for a month in August and the workers returned on the 5th of September.

At the Executive Council meeting we had on the 7th of September, we were told by those preparing the salaries that because of the new salary table, the working out of the salaries will take long.

We decided to pay the August salaries with old salary table and we will then use the new table for September as well as paying the arrears, but the leadership of the labour union said that they would wait until the salaries’ preparation is completed with the new table.

We are in November for Christ sake! You can't be seriously posting stuff about AregbeRASCAL paying salaries for August in November.
Everything about Aregbesola is a lie. The man specialises in the fantastic, imagine how he is claiming FG work as his own, cos all he has achieved in his 1 year as governor, is sending 19 damn bus loads of aluta howlers on a useless mission to Abuja.

There is no politician aside the late Barkin Zuwo that can remotely compete with Aregbe's grand stories.

That is a LIE!!!! Aregbesola only claims that payment has been made to NRC. We have NO EVIDENCE YET that it was full payment or even for the particular project (NOT even sure since there seems to be numerous linked in to the same). As of October 24th, the project is still projected to happen in the FUTURE. OK. So, sorry, there is NO DIFFERENCE!!

Also your claim that this is the first time in 8 years is baseless. Yar adua at least put a Billion dollars into reviving the RailWay, that is why Aregbesola even attempts to add a terminal at Dagboru to begin with.

If Aregbe is lying, why do we have no denials from both the NRC and the PDP in the state, they have actually been quite vocal in their condemnation of the governor, I am sure this would have been an opportunity for them to expose his lying nature.

Aregbesola Receives Leadership Award

Pledges To Justify Confidence Reposed In Him
Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, has assured his teeming supporters that he would justify the confidence reposed in him by the people who elected him into office.

Aregbesola, who gave this assurance in Abuja last weekend, while receiving the 2011 edition of the African Governance and Corporate Leadership Award conferred on him by the Institute for Government Research and Leadership Technology at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, told the people of Osun and Lagos States that he would live up to his billings by performing in office beyond their  expectations of him.

Responding to a lengthy citation on him by the institute, the Osun State governor pledged to continue to strive hard in his provision of good leadership and services to the people which he noted, informed their decision to elect him as governor.

“My assurance and commitment to those who have given me this award is that we will never fail or falter to continue to do those things that attracted us to you and for which the people of Lagos, the people of Osun State, the people of Nigeria see us as budding talents and potential leaders. We shall do our best to sustain the qualities and virtues that made it possible for you to grant the award”, he promised.

While reiterating his resolve to spend the rest of his life in the service of the people and humanity, Aregbesola expressed the confidence that the award would ginger him to further offer his best services to the people of Osun State, so as to achieve their aspiration for development.

Dedicating the award to the people of Osun State, Aregbesola commended the former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu for noticing the potentials in him when he gave him the opportunity to serve in his cabinet as a commissioner in 1999.

According to him, every honour done to any human being is a recognition of the commitment to the cause of humanity, just as he appealed to all Nigerians to join hands in engineering activities that would uplift the living standard of fellow citizens.

Aregbesola maintained that the greatest guarantee of peace and development is the development of citizenry by enhancing their capacities for fulfillment and industry necessary for the upliftment of their standard of living.

Speaking during the ceremony on the qualities of Governor Aregbesola, the National Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said the award was unique as it manifested in the style of Governor Aregbesola’s leadership style of administration.

The ACN scribe then advised the Osun State helmsman not to waiver in delivering the goods to the expectation of the people, as he had an enviable past rooted in the emancipation of humanity.

I guess Aregbesola bribed a Nigerian Minister to praise-sing for him as well over proactive flood prevention when Osun still flooded not too long ago under the callous and grossly corrupt Oyinlola who could never be bothered. By all means, what Aregbesola is praised for below is his job but he can still be lauded for a job well done especially when some mischief makers have made it their personal mission to discredit the man out of their agenda of deciet.

Minister Scores Osun High In Flood Control

The Honourable Minister of Environment, Hajia Hadiza Ibrahim Mailafia, has commended the pro-active stance of Osun State government towards prevention of flooding in the state, by heeding the National Environment and Metrological Institute’s (NEMTI) warning in dredging its waterways and preventing dumping of refuse on its waterways, so as to avert disaster in the state.
She gave the words of commendation in Abuja at the 8th National Council on Environment, held at Yar’Adua Sports Complex, Murtala Square, Kaduna last Thursday.

Speaking on the theme: “Transforming the Nigerian Environment”, Hajia Mailafia said that the theme has been deliberately chosen to afford the stakeholders the opportunity to reflect and exchange views on the general state of the Nigerian environment, to examine and chart the way forward on environmental issues in the country.
The minister, who hammered on environmental challenges of deforestation, waste management, oil spillage and climate change said that the ministry has recently established Flood Early Warning System (FEWS), which is a web-based system for the forecast of possible devastating flood event in the country and it has installed automated flood early warning equipment in Ogun-Osun River Basin.

Osun Awards N418m Contract For Waterworks RehabilitationTargets 20million Gallons Of Water Output Per Day

Osun State government has awarded a N417,974,970.00 contract for the emergency rehabilitation of the New Ede Waterworks, with a view to increasing the level of provision of portable water for the people of the state. The contract was awarded to Messrs Seg Mahsen and Co Nigeria Ltd.
Signing the agreement with the company on behalf of the government, for the award of the contract in Osogbo, the state capital on Thursday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Water Resources, Engineer (Mrs.) Tawa Williams, stated that the project must be completed within a stipulated period of six months.
She further stated that when the project is completed, over 20 million gallons of water would be made available to the people of the state per day, with a view to alleviating their suffering on the scarcity of portable water supply.

Describing the signing of the agreement with the company as a milestone in the life of the present administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, the Special Adviser noted that the government was carrying out partial rehabilitation of the waterworks, to improve its output capacity to about 50 percent.
According to her, the governor had entered into partnership with the World Bank, for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the waterworks, but pending the time the bank would come in, the present administration decided to embark on partial rehabilitation of the project.
The scope of the emergency rehabilitation, according to her, includes “provision of two 2,500 cubic metres per hour, Low Lift Pump-sets; provision of 1500KVA generating set at the High Lift Station; provision of two 2MVA outdoor power transformers with its associated control panels, at the High Lift Station and High Tension Building respectively; and provision of chemical dosing pumps for Lime and Alum”.
Engineer Williams noted that all main pipes in the affected areas would be repaired or replaced, to minimize waste and ensure effective use of water, adding that pipes would also be extended to newly-developed areas.
She noted that when partnership between the state government and the World Bank begins to take effect next year, under the World Bank Assisted Water Supply Programme, there would be complete rehabilitation of Ede Head-works, which would give 100 percent and full capacity water outflow.

Construction of new Ilesa Urban Water Scheme, according to her, would also be carried out under the programme, while the ongoing Ile-Ife Urban Water Scheme would be completed, adding that there would be rehabilitation of all existing water schemes, and repair and desilting of dams in Eko-Ende, Esa-Odo, Iwo and Ede.
For the monitoring of the project, she stated that the present administration would introduce new system of monitoring of projects, which had not been done in the past, noting that the governor had also directed the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Finance to participate in the monitoring of the projects.
She reiterated the commitment of the government of the state to give the issue of water supply topmost priority and ensure that the dividend of democracy is brought to the doorsteps of the people of the state, in all ramifications.
Responding on behalf of the company, the leader of the team, Dr Abraham Olusegun said that the company would handle the project with all sincerity and ensure that it is completed within the stipulated period.

Netherlands to partner Osun on food production
By Adesoji Adeniyi 10/10/2011 00:00:00

The Netherlands has promised Osun State technical and financial support to achieve its target on food production.

Netherlands Deputy Head of Missions Mr. Hans de Brabander spoke at the weekend, when he visited Governor Rauf Aregbesola in Osogbo, the state capital.

Describing Netherlands as the fifth largest economy in the world, Brabander said he would educate Dutch investors on the potentials of the state.

He said: “The starting point identified by the governor is a very wise one. If you want to develop your economy, you should not start from the top, but the bottom as the governor has done.

“There are untapped potentials in the agriculture, dairies and food storage sectors, which can generate bumper employment for the people.”

Brabander said Osun would learn a lot about hi-tech agriculture from his country.

Aregbesola thanked the envoy.

He said his administration created a Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to tackle malnutrition, and has concluded plans to give free lunch to public school pupils.

The governor said the government has acquired 30,000 hectares of land, to be given to farmers, for food production.

He restated his administration’s plan to establish a midland market that would transport agricultural produce from Osogbo to Lagos, free of charge, and bring finished goods from Lagos to Osogbo.

Aregbesola said Osogbo enjoys an average of 12 hours uninterrupted electricity, which would be an advantage to investors.

How about the even bigger scam called OYES ? Afterall, what are those fools below waxing lyrical about? Kini big deal in innovatively creating jobs in a nation with a serious unemployment problem that leads to social and economic malaise?

World Bank endorses Osun youth empowerment model
On October 2, 2011 · In News

By FOLUSHO AJIBUTU

Osun State government efforts on youths empowerment have received a boost, as the state is to benefit from the N50 billion World Bank/ Federal Government youth empowerment fund.

This was disclosed by the Sector Leader of the World Bank on Human Development and Task Leader on Youths Employment and Social Support Operation (YESSO), Professor Foluso Okunmadewa, after assessing the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES) corps in Olorunda, Osogbo and Ayedaade local government council areas of the state.

Okumadewa disclosed that the state government has achieved a milestone in the area of engaging youths into community development and the World Bank is looking into areas to help the government expand the scope of OYES.

According to him, this is the third time his team would visit Osun to assess the scheme and discovered that the government is showing other states in the country how to get their youths gainfully engaged.

“From our past interaction with the officials of the scheme, we discovered that the scheme is getting beneficiaries involved in community responsibility and this time we are seeking the response of the corps members to understand it more and help the state build upon the success it has achieved”, the World Bank Sector Leader added.

He pointed out that the World Bank would partner with the state government on the youth empowerment model and called on other states to emulate the scheme to make their teeming unemployed youths useful.

The six-man team interacted with the corps members on their areas of specialisation and where the scheme needs improvement.

In his assessment, Yasser El-Gammal observed that the scheme has the potential to be the best in Africa.

“The World Bank is here to assess what the state government is doing and complement its efforts by helping to expand the project. We are impressed with what we see and believe it is a laudable programme on the part of government”, he added.

The leader of the state government team, Commissioner for Youth, Sport and Special Needs, Mr Stephen Kolabalogun, stated that the state administration has not relented in its effort to give the youths the best welfare programme, saying government is aware of the tremendous challenges ahead and would tackle them appropriately.

He maintained that Governor Rauf Aregbesola is passionate about youths, adding that youths would be the beneficiaries of the transformational policies of the government.

“Now, through OYES, the state economy is reaping about N200 million monthly and the moment about 5,000 of the corps members are absorbed into the state teaching service, 5,000 others would be enrolled into the scheme, meaning more hands would be engaged soon”, added the commissioner.

The chairman of OYES Implementation Group, Femi Ifaturoti, revealed that the scheme is not only about engaging youths but also a platform for human capacity building for the teeming unemployed youths in the state.
