Peter Obi's Statement On The Arrest Of Julius Abure by naptu2: 2:02am On Feb 22
Peter Obi @PeterObi

Like many Nigerians, I observed the distasteful national television news reports detailing the humiliating arrest of the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure, earlier today in Benin City, Edo state.

Throughout my roles as a private individual, public figure, Governor, and Presidential candidate, I consistently advocated for the paramount importance of upholding the rule of law in any sane society.

I firmly believe that, as citizens, we are all duty-bound irrespective of our status in society to respond to invitations from properly constituted authority. My stance on this matter remains unwavering but does not explain watching the distressing image of our National Chairman lying on the ground in the name of arrest.

This act is undesirable , demeaning and unequivocally intolerable and must be condemned by any decent and civilized mind within the context of our present civic landscape in Nigeria. These deplorable actions epitomize the pinnacle of rascality and serve to egregiously tarnish the already regrettable perception of our nation as one plagued by lawlessness.

Such behaviour must not only be denounced but also actively addressed to uphold the principles of justice and respect for the dignity of the individual within our society.

Regarding the circumstances surrounding Mr. Abure's arrest, it is crucial to emphasize that while constitutional authorities must be allowed to execute their statutory functions, officers must adhere to due process, civility, decency and established arrest procedures, embody civility, decorum, respect for the dignity and rights of citizens, and, above all, the presumption of innocence before the law.

It is crucial to emphasize that as a leader within the Labour Party, Mr. Abure represents, both personally and statutorily, as the incumbent Chairman of the LP, the face of political opposition in Nigeria. Most importantly, political Parties are institutions of democratic statehood and ought to that extent be accorded due respect.

It is imperative to reiterate that no pretext or subterfuge should be employed to stifle Nigeria's political opposition. Therefore, I urge that he should be granted bail based on his status while the investigation his alleged offence continues. - PO

Just look at how they embarrassed this man in the name of arrest, for such strange and most likely cooked up story. The lack of respect for the face of the opposition and lawlessness displayed by the police in handling of the matter is embarrassing and requires public outrage and whoever observed or participated in this arrest should be fired and made to face the law. Imagine that Tinubu was arrested by Jonathan and made to sit on the floor when he was playing the face of the opposition.

If you see nothing wrong in this, you are part of the problem in this country.

The beginning of the drama.

Labour Party Supporters Celebrate Public Humiliation, Beating Up Of Lamidi Apapa-Led Factional Members In Edo State

Supporters of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections popularly known as Obidients on X platform (formerly Twitter) have celebrated the public assault and humiliation of the Lamidi Apapa-led Labour Party faction members in Edo State.

An X user, @TheSerahIbrahim posted a chaotic video which she claimed was a scene of youths in an undisclosed location in Edo State where they were attacking and beating the Labour Party faction members including the party's factional youth leader, Eragbe Anslem.

Serah said in her post that the factional Labour Party members were attacked and beaten and hospitalised for allegedly defrauding youths in an attempt to hold the party's governorship primary election in the state for the coming gubernatorial election.

“Organisers of the Apapa fake Labour Party group, beaten in Edo State after defrauding youths in an attempt to host a fake Labour Party Edo State Gubernatorial Primary Election and Congress.

“The self-proclaimed youth leader of the Apapa-led fake group, Eragbe Anslem was beaten by youths and hospitalised in Edo State after defrauding people in an attempt to host a congress and a Governorship Primary Election on behalf of Labour Party.

“The attackers are still on the run,” Serah wrote.

When contacted for confirmation and comments, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, said he was not aware of the incident and the exact location it happened in the state.

Celebrating the attack, Obidient with X username, PO_GrassRootM who also posted the video wrote, “The Lamidi Apapa-led Fake Labour Party group went to Edo State attempted to host a fake Labour Party Edo State Gubernatorial Primary Election and Congress but were disgraced by the youths of Edo State.”

Another Obidient, @ Chris_sunny11 said, “Where is Apapa and Anselem in this clip. Na them be my target, while @EqualRnJustice said, “Edo no be lagos and Imo. My Oviedos, una do well. Domo ooh.”

Also, @igboeri_kelvin described the attack as “Welcome development,” but @stevkayma who condemned the attack berated Obidients for celebrating what the X user described as thuggery.

@stevkayma said, “So they are not thugs but "youths" abi? and you complained that thugs were used to intimidate voters during the last election right, you wonder we still have bad leadership in nigeria? It because you are no different from the "people" you call bad leader?”

Also condemning the attack and berating Obidients for celebrating it, @mayokun wrote, “You mean you can derive joy in molesting others? What makes you different from those you are critical of?

“There's no civil way of exercising dissent or difference of opinions than a resort to thuggery from a party intending to serve as a credible alternative model?”

Another X user, @SammyChukwuu who is Obidient but condemned the attack said, “This is completely wrong! And before you say anything, you no support LP reach me.”

The beginning of the drama.

The police say that Comrade Anslem wrote a petition against Abure to the AIG Zone 5 and the Inspector General of Police alleging that Abure sent people to kill him and that they beat him up.

At the end APC and the police share the shame.
Political rascality and agberoism in the face of hunger and cluelessness of a government which ought to be ashamed of it's early failures in just 8months of their administration.

Obviously nothing is working not in the area of security, economy, governance, law and order yet they open their lazy mouths to ask Nigerians to give them time.

This statement acknowledged that there is an alleged offence that should be investigated.

It is better than the official statement from the LP secretariat that went silent on the allegations against their chairman and instead chose to trade political blames.

At the point, it may be advisable for Peter Obi to float his own party and dissociate from this party of thugs that engage in mob violence and jungle justice.

As for Obi, I will paraphrase that guy from the 2012 topic who said nothing much should be expected from a man whose voice rattles like that of a woman.

Since Penguin2 is happy with the arrest, then Obi must be losing it.

The crack woman voice candidate just found his lost voice. Apapa was not only beaten, he was humiliated in court premises, the youth leader was also beaten to pop but the hypocrite suddenly found his useless voice when someone resisted arrest and the Nigeria Police have to use force to get him arrested.

Obi-Tu-Lie should cover his head in shame, go and form your party and stop trying to steal other peoples effort..

While I am not holding a brief for the national chairman of LP, why arrest and humiliate him in such a manner over some trump-up charges? Moreover, the current national chairman of APC was caught on camera stuffing his babariga with dollars, which are proceeds of bribery and corruption, when he was governor of Kano State, and today he is walking free.
