'The Protest Will Go On': NLC insists After Emergency Meeting With FG by Nemere2020: 11:35pm On Feb 26
A late meeting between the Federal Government and the Organised Labour on Monday night at the State House in Abuja ended in a stalemate.

“The rally goes on and it is part of their constitutional responsibility to ensure that the rally is peaceful,” said the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, after the meeting with government representatives on the eve of the protest.

The meeting, hosted by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, was not opened to the media.

Those in attendance at the meeting include the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi; Ministers of Labour, Agriculture, Finance, Budget & Planning and the Head of Service of the Federation.

The two labour centres in the country were also in attendance.

The NLC delegation was led by its National President, Joe Ajaero; while Festus Osifo led the delegation by the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The Federal Government had appealed to the NLC to shelve its planned nationwide protest slated for February 27 and 28, 2024.

The Minister of Information, Muhammad Idris, who spoke after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Monday, said the Federal Government had fulfilled almost all the demands put forward by the labour union.

The NLC said the Federal Government must put on its thinking cap and implement its agreement with the Organised Labour as well as address the mounting economic crisis of survival in Nigeria.

Nigeria is battling rising inflation, food inflation, forex crisis, economic hardship and high cost of living occasioned by the removal of petrol subsidy, attracting protests in parts of the country.

Despite subtle pressure from the government for the group not to embark on the planned strike, the NLC said its member won’t be cowed to shelve their proposed nationwide protest.

So FG was waiting for the last minute as usual so that Nigerians we rubbish NLC Abi? For their mind let’s “settle” them(NLC) at the last minute & get them(NLC) to shelve it by midnight.

Since 👀neck announced them at night, they like operating at night.

It will favour me and my family

To inflict more pain of course but hunger would chase people back into their homes.

The government should allow the peaceful protest go on and not try to scuttle it by importing street urchins to disrupt the procession.

It is the inalienable right of the people to engage in peaceful protest and the police most as a duty protect the protesters from harm.

They claim he has a manifesto to fix Nigeria's problems but he will always wait till the dying minute to be reminded what he should do .

Shame on TUC, Shame on NANs, shame on CLOs who pulled out of the planned protest because the got peanuts, but for how long will the peanut last for them and their families?

It is now clear why the South;East and South pulled out and I do not blame them at all.

Things are really getting out of hand, 500k is like 50k, Just toiletries, foodstuff and transportation, not to talk about rent(for those that pay rent) etc. Omo, on Sunday, getting to Church, I couldn't count the number of families waiting to ask for alms after service, I do not blame them at all, I blame the poor decisions of the government that has kept them in this position.
