U.S college students raise money to send their security guard who has been longing to visit his family in Nigeria on holiday.

The initiative to send the Nigerian security guard on holiday to Nigeria was spearheaded by a student identified as Brandon.

James subsequently went down on his knees to thank students of Providence College in the United States, after their kind gesture towards him.

Most likely a Yoruba man. An Igbo or SS man will never go on his knees like that.

Nice gesture from the students.

Your mother gave birth to a wise son. One big secret about the Igbos not prostrating for anyone is that whatever you do for them, they know they can do even more for you and would always like to reciprocate every kind gesture no matter how long it takes for them to do that. Above all, they would never let you prostrate for them when they do you any favour. They see doing good as normal.

The only time an Igbo man goes on his knees is when he is caught committing a crime especially drug trafficking and don't want to be exposed. Humility by force by fire. Apart from that, na PRIDE and ARROGANCY.

Which appreciation?!. Those are kids. Same age as his children. He does not need to kneel down like that. That was USA, not Ogbomosho or Akure.

In Nigeria here, every tribe prostrate once in a while to some special people. Yeah, Yoruba do it more because it's their culture

When you read the words of truth below, you will understand better. Especially the red highlight. It's just sheer inherent arrogance and pride.

Chinua Achebe wasn't a politician but he wrote this:

I will be the first to concede that the Igbo as a group is not without its flaws. Its success can and did carry deadly penalties: the dangers of hubris, overweening pride, and thoughtlessness, which invite envy and hatred or, even worse, than can obsess the mind with material success and dispose it to all kinds of crude showiness. There is no doubt at all that there is a strand in contemporary Igbo behavior that can offend by its noisy exhibitionism and disregard for humility and quietness.”

CHINUA ACHEBE, in his book, 'There was a country'.

Nobody could have said it better than an Igbo man.

What has this post got to do with the whole Igbos?

You also intentionally omitted where Achebe said ‘ the only thing that unites Naija is their hatred for Igbos’

I still don't understand why the man cannot afford a return ticket for over a decade. I'm led to assume he's staying illegally and can't return.

Hatred for Igbos is world wide. Igbos are hated everywhere around the world. That's what Achebe has sincerely said with all honestly, the reasons why.

BigIyanga another Igbo Professor in the United States of America had this to say.

Asians must be stooopid for bowing to their elderly nd saying thank you. Some other cultures nod, some cultures respond in strange ways. Some cultures even kiss feet. Some of these things are religious rituals but there is a reason behind it. It is important to understand the meaning behind their behaviour. What you all need to understand on NL is culture. What makes sense in your culture does not mean another culture is trash. I see this many times on NL and I think it comes from ignorance and lack of exposure. That is why most waste their time arguing and only seeing things from a limited point of view. That is a great way to know how small their minds are regardless of age.

When you abuse people for their ways, it means you are uncultured. Anyone who takes time to learn their culture will not be foolish to condemn other cultures immediately. They will take their time to understand culture and why it is done.
