Okonedo and Openiyi can’t be igbo names.

Okonedo and Openiyi can’t be igbo names. Erivo sounds like an Urhobo name while Whitaker is an American citizen.

As an Actor-in-training, one of the reasons why Nigerian born and bred Actors or Actresses can not be nominated for an Oscar is because of just one barrier which is ACCENT.

All these Actors and Actresses on this list all have one thing in common. They were brought up either in UK or USA.

Therefore their British and American Accent which they have developed all their lives plays a vital role in their Hollywood career.

We as Nigerians brought up in Nigeria have our own type of accent. We speak like typical Nigerians.

A Black American has his own distinct accent from a White American. Same with the British.

When you put Actors with these 3 unique and distinct accent in a movie and you put a Nigerian with clean English (maybe a Ramsey Noah. Who is even half cast and will represent well) you would see the big difference. Our Accent is different.

Hollywood is a multi billion dollar industry and Movie making there is a big business. They dont take chances when it comes to their movie business and they take CASTING which is a vital aspect of movie making very seriously.

Okonedo na Edo woman before o. That's an Edo surname. I tire for all these people looking for any opportunity to claim anything claimable😊
DeOTR:

How Okonedo now becomes an Igbo name is beyond me.
