The Ovie of Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom of Delta State, HRM Clement Ikolo, has said the 16 soldiers killed came to protect his people from those who wanted to invade their land.

While on a peace mission to Okuoma community in Bomadi community in Bomadi local government in Delta State, troops of 181 Amphibious Battalion, were allegedly attacked by community youths who killed 16 soldiers on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

It was learnt that the incident occurred when the troops responded to a distress call over a communal clash between Okuama and Okoloba communities.

Also attacked was the reinforcement team led by the Commanding Officer leading to the death of the Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain, and 12 Soldiers.

Reacting to the sad incident, the Monarch said it is very sad times for their kingdom in Delta State and for Nigeria generally.

“The military men are the people who are there to protect our nation. They should be held in high esteem.

“They (slain soldiers) were here to protect us from people who wanted to invade our land and commit heinous crimes.

“It is very sad these same people who they came to protect and also part of us were the ones with these kind of heinous acts (that) carried out and killed (them) in the process. It is very sad. I totally condemn it.

He stated that the act is unacceptable and that one of the soldiers killed was somebody who put in all he could at the time of his presentation of staff of office in November last year.

“I’m short of words. May their souls…and the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God receive peace.”

In a statement on Sunday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave the Nigerian military full authority to bring those behind the Thursday killing of 12 soldiers and four army officers to justice.

Tinubu vowed that his government will not rest until peace and tranquillity is achieved in every part of the country.

He added that The incident, once again, demonstrates the dangers faced by servicemen and women in the line of duty.

It's funny that same people who support Israel's retaliation in Palestine, despite the high number of civilian casualties have been crying against military retaliation against the community in question.

When Isreal was bombing every inch of Gaza just because of the actions of few Hamas insurgents, majority of the hypocrites condemning the actions of the Nigerian Army today were supporting Isreal to continue the genocide. To them every one residing in Gaza are all terrorists so Isreal's action to bomb everyone was justifiable.

Now the tables have turned and the Nigerian Army are ready to do what Isreal is doing in Gaza. A dozen or more soldiers were murdered in cold blood but you hypocrites wants the army to look for the killers and not make the whole community pay.

If you can support what Isreal is doing by punishing every Palestinian for the offense of few Hamas agent, then the Nigerian Army should as well wipe out the whole community and make them suffer for the sins of the few killers.

This is another angle..... I am very sure the ones who committed this crime weren't from that particular area..... It makes no ration sense from area of ambush and the proximity to that area...... Also according to the army hideout of some of them were traced all the way to bayelsa..... Now the puzzle is falling in place

Let's be realistic, I don't they just open fire at the soldiers like that unprovoked. When they're not terrorist.

Something might had happened that escalated a peaceful meeting into violence one and sadly the army were outnumbered and outgun.

Everyone just giving fearful report. Were those guys at war with the army in the first place to open fire at sighting them?

The truth is being hidden even when it's obvious.

I hope the situation don't escalate to a point where there will be a resurgence of militants. Nigeria is already over stretched with internal violence for that.

Everyone is just giving their own version of the story, let an independent commission of enquiry be set up and we will be shocked at the outcome of what really transpired.

Another group are saying that Tantita security outfit owned by Tompolo which is responsible for guiding oil pipelines and filled with Ijaw ex militants have been using the cover of its contract with FG on oil pipelines protection to carry out attacks against riverine communities from other tribes.
Then the Okuama youths received 'faulty intelligence' that they were coming to invade but unfortunately it happened to be soldiers and Tantita agents also wear military uniforms in some of their operations and it was when the dust settled that they realised that the people killed were soldiers.

This is the danger of handing over the country's security to non state actors like Tantita security and other private outfits and granting them licence to military grade weapons, its a failure from all sides that has led to the ongoing calamity

This story is not adding up at all,which weaponry will youth use to fight a whole army unit,that resulted in no army survival, I also heard it was militants that attacked them..so pathetic
