Sirmwill: Calling it foolish doesnt make it foolish without convincing arguement, The current economic state is similar to covid 19 era where people struggle to feed & survive , across the world the Govt measure of palliative was to distribute food items at designated venues IF inflation is ravaging the country and people can bearly afford necessities .. what temporary measures is viable than Govt subsidizing food items to reinstate affordability. Even if those food were given freely, people will always complaining & rant, before the exercise the prices of all available items were publicized, and we all agreed they were lesser to market prices, I don't see any form of corruption around these concept becos there are no hidden charges or hidden procedures, its all open and People still have a choice, buy where you want 1 Like

Palliative in Nigeria is another name for official embezzlement. Palliative is never a remedy nor solution even if the people get it today what happens tomorrow? THE GOVERNMENT MUST DEVELOP LASTING SOLUTIONS TO THE NATION'S PROBLEMS NOT EMERGENCY FRAUD INDUCED INTERVENTION 1 Like 1 Share |

Sirmwill: And because it has never worked, it should be stopped? Do you know the problems the US had with food stamps until they finally got it right? Do you know how much money the UK loses on social welfare because people game the system? Nigeria is on a learning curve and any issues with these systems do not mean that the system should be abolished. By the way, these interviews that are being quoted up here were proven to be by people hoping to resell. The government has closed that gap by narrowing the arbitrage window. The first complaint was that things were sold out and this was down to resellers. Now the same resellers are complaining. Everyone that I know that has gone there has been generous with their praise. 1 Like |

GanagiBitrus:Our Govt itself is the major problem. It's awfully expensive to run. How I wish we really knew how much gets wasted/stolen wasted by this same Govt, these politicians wouldn't want to step out of their houses without maximum security. Nothing good could come out of this government. It's not pessimism but a fact. Things are going to get really bad 1 Like |

One thing I have learnt about Nigerians is that once money is involved and maybe it's cash, never trust anyone or anything That's why I will never support the government dishing money or whatever to the people, it's just a conduit pipe for some fraudsters to make more money Government go build markets, some persons will claim to buy it and then begin resell it at astronomical price Most of these schemes are settlement rather than succour to the populace 2 Likes |

Subsidies, especially consumer subsidies, NEVER work out well in the long run in any country on this earth. The cost is always worse than the benefit. Nigeria is suffering from inflation. Inflation didn't magically start happening. It happened because government printed excess amounts of money to maintain previous subsidies on fuel, electricity, university education, rice, pilgrimages etc. This program will also fail, just like the new law imposing monthly rent will cause more problems than it solves. Just like LAKE rice program failed - https://guardian.ng/features/why-lake-rice-disappeared-from-lagos/ The ONLY path to sustainable, long term economic development is through free market policies. Sadly the Nigerian people have consistently shown a preference for socialist policies and they will continue to get socialist results. Good Luck to Nigeria. 1 Like 1 Share |

Faiththatworks:So the opposition should pat the government on the back for the present hardship? Wouldn't that mean the Country is finished? Shouldn't their complaints put the government on their toes? I bet, with people like you they would feel like everything is alright and encouraged to do less. Many of the infrastructural developments you think they are making might not even stand the test of time. Most, I understand, are even on 'hire purchase' basis. And many consensus developers know how to make shody projects just to last for the time of their consensus. The question is where has our money gone to? Now they are passing the bulk. What have they given to the workers? Now the agbaya they are are entering into competition with regular marketers and traders as if it is the most normal thing to do. Let traders and marketers close shops and let's see if they can sustain the the people. Treating the symptoms and not the disease itself. To what end? I don't know. All is well. |
