United States of Nigeria with true federalism

Replace the word "STATES" with "REGIONS" and you have United REGIONS of Nigeria (URN).

Regionalism is better. People are more united that way by tribes, tongue, and culture and it helps to foster regional nationalism and healthy competition between the regions.

If regionalism as posited by you will be sound because people are united by culture , tribes and to give, the Yorubas in Kogi who will find themselves in the northern region, how will they fare?

Importing Oyinbo style of government will not solve our nation problem....what we need is devolution of power ...Period. And therefore run Regional government as it was in 1960 before this Ibo man from Ebonyi called Thomas Aguyi Ironsi came with his greedy mindset to plunge the country into forcefully merger . ...

Ewure, everyday blame blame blame. Dem use blame swear for you? You were better than Indonesia in the 70s, now they are better than you while you are still pointing fingers, even after pushing out Ibos from governance since the 1970s after the war.

Dissolve the country and do that magic that others have not allowed you to do, you are afraid.

I agree completely. Earlier, I read the lamentation by Gov Uba Sani of Kaduna. He was complaining about the huge debts left by his predecessor, who himself thinks he has done so well that he’s beginning to strategize for 2027.

The Gov laments that the state got only N3bn from the N7bn accrued to the state in March. And I’m like: so the states cannot survive without the FAAC. No single mention of what the government is doing to increase the state’s IGR.

Obviously, this is how most of the states will continue unless we embrace true federalism. After promising heaven and earth during electioneering campaigns, they come lamenting at their incompetences. But with true federalism, they’ll have to sit their asses down and think of ways to make money for their states.

I also agree with Adesina’s position on the high intrinsic tax borne by Nigerians. With the huge tax revenues and surrounded by huge water resources, one wonders why most households in Lagos have to provide water for themselves for instance.

The government continues to play politics with the dare security challenges in the country. If not, why is instituting state police such a difficult task?

It’s well!

As much as I share this view, my concerns bother on two issues - one, what happens to geopolitical zones that are largely heterogeneous i.e. the North Central, North West, and South South? Already, some states are tension grounds for ethno-religious conflicts. Lumping more diverse peoples together is like making the zones fields for bloodbath. Two, how does one make the Federal Government surrender power? As it stands now, this central government has held on to it as if it's life depends on it. Even the National Assembly would not want to surrender the legislative supremacy in some matters. Same applies to the Judiciary. If these arms whose cooperation is vital to the restructuring project are not onboard, then it will be a pipedream. Look at the state of electricity. It's a national embarrassment that a country this huge in resources and potentials is still on a meagre 4000 megawatts while South Africa is above 50,000 megawatts. Most industrial investors won't take us serious and that's why government trips to solicit for foreign investments have always been mere tourism in effect. Do you see the federal government hurrying electricity from the exclusive list to the concurrent list? It is recently that they are making some minor concessions in the sector, but the urgency attached to such a vital matter is still very much laughable.

Regional government will improve tribalism instead of reducing it. The only system of government that would work is for each state to stand on its own. Just like it's done in the USA
That's how it's in the constitution. We just decided not to follow it

Na by name? What Nigeria seriously needs now is a change of orientation, most especially in the area of national goals. The people need to have a general sense or feeling of involvement, and the pursuit of a common interest that will in the long run lead to the safety and prosperity of the Nigerian man.
How do we go about it, it is not about talking it's about telling us what and what need to be done. If I understand both of you clearly, what you are asking for is inside what he is saying.

Regionalism only favors the Hausa, Yoruba and Ibo tribes of Nigeria. What about the other minority tribes who constitute the rest of the population? We are not going back to any stupid regional shit
