The four letters are consonants (YHWH) vowels must be added in between to make it's pronunciation easy.
For instance the name 'Zechariah' is easy to pronounce because vowels were added but what if only the consonants ZCHRH is what we have how easy do you think we can pronounce that?
So the four Hebrew letters YHWH stands for God's name but the vowels is what nobody knows till today that's why some scholars added A & E to make it easy for pronunciation YAHWEH and it's English transliterations JHVH became JEHOVAH.
