A Nigerian priest has compared the government option to marry off freed Boko Haram hostages to their abductors to trying to heal cancer with a bandage. Father Moses Lorapuu – Director of Communication and Vicar General Pastoral for the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi in Benue State – was reacting to reports indicating that around 20 Chibok girls who have regained their freedom after years in Boko Haram captivity are now being forced to marry the men who abducted them. SOURCE “This strategy [of encouraging marriages between freed Chibok girls and their captors] is tantamount to bandaging cancer. You don’t bandage cancer,” Lorapuu told Crux. 1 Like 1 Share |

It's a very sad situation. It appears that some of the girls are emotionally attached to their "husbands" who they have kids for. They're kept away from their parents but being adults now, it's difficult to go against their will. However, I believe that they need counselling and empowerment to live meaningful lives. Considering that their education was cut short, just living as BH wives will always sadden their parents more. 1 Like |

Effing sad, but in a way...understandable There was a girl who was freed from Boko after being kidnapped and married off to one of them. She was freed and returned to her family. So everyone was happy eh? Actually A large part of the girl's family viewed her as soiled goods. The baby she had for the Boko husband ( who died by the way) was killed..officially by snake bite, but the girl suspected that some family members orchestrated the death. And then the religion aspect..half the extended family were Muslims the other half christians. Before the girl was kidnapped she was christian. So she became Muslim. Family torn apart. Let's even mention Stockholm syndrome. The girl was even talking about going back to Boko. Kidnap victim. Shit like this has been happening for centuries. After all , before colonialism it was ten times worse. You could be living in peace, next you are kidnapped, sold into slavery , taken away from home. Some people and families and tribes never recover. Government is making a big mistake marrying the girls to their abductors, but the kind of problems that arise when you return a woman whose brain has been scattered by Boko 🐖. I still blame the government. Apc, pdp and even former military rulers. Nigeria should have been following an industrial path since independence. By now there would have been too many jobs and too few idle hands. Or not |
