The Regulatory body should be working with DSTV on how and when to adjust their fees. Should they be operating at a loss? No , but they should not be gouging their subscribers either. The regulatory agency should know their cost of doing business and work the company to allow the company raise rates by applying for a justifiable rate increase request. In Nigeria, we operate a quasi democratic and socialist country. We still want everything free (free education, healthcare, housing, subsidized pms,) but Nigeria's government is never good at these things because of the Nigerian factor. Everybody only looking out for their own pocket and not for the greater good. Once DSTV gives these guys bribe, the issue will go away

How can they be operating at a loss? They, like all the multinationals increasing prices of their products are making huge profits. Let them disclose their end of year accounts! They have been in Nigeria for lots of years making so much money. If Nigeria is going through a hard time, DSTV should be able to conduct their business at a lower profit margin. They can never make a loss.

Is this not interference in their freedom of legitimate business operations ? Do they want the business to wind up?

Simply go and read the act setting up the Tribunal

The foreign airlines have been ripping off Nigerians. It took the intervention of one man to cut their slack.

Back to the news, multichoice is a big thief. With the increment, viewers will still be stuck with 1201 movie and 1930 World Cup tournaments.

Nigerians don't know what they want.... that's the tall and short of this thread. People are selfish, irrational, crude and atrocious. They're coming from a deep place of intense hatred and bigotry. It has eaten so profoundly into them that they are now bereft of any sense of reasoning. We're like if e can spoil, make e spoil. Stop wailing! And stick to the topic. If you are a landlord, the government should tell you how much to charge?

I am a landlord and I don't exploit people. If not for Airpeace that crashed the price of international flight, we will still be paying such exorbitant price for it. Like I said before, before taking any decision in life think and over think. Shalom.

Story! You are now using the word 'exploit'. Who you wan deceive? Is it the government that should tell you how much to charge?
When Dangote increased price of cement, where was the government?

Companies that have folded up and left Nigeria, if they were making profit won't they stay?

Kindly compare their bouquet price in South Africa even though it's PAYGo then come back here an argue sir.

In South Africa they have uninterrupted power supply all year round, and may not need power generating sets or security men for their masts operations. And in SA, foreign exchange instability is minimal.

But in Nigeria, they buy diesel at high cost to operate their individual mast, with security men employed to prevent theft. Also FX instability is high in Nigeria. Therefore to stay afloat, they need to increase price.

There is no such thing as PAYG in SA. If there is provide a link to their SA website where they advertise PAYG!

If multichoice will operate on pay as-you-go, we'll pay the price hike with our full chests. Not when you only view at nights where you manage to run ur I pass my neighbour.

You people will just open mouth waaaaa.

There is price control in every country of the world. You can't just set a price for your products or services because you own a business. Don't just open your mouth and be talking anyhow.
This is not fear at all. DSTV as a community has the right to increase their subscriptions as required. They're not forcing anyone to subscribe or do business with them. When did they not interfere with Dangote's price of cement?

Lol were the new prices NOT confirmed before now.

A case was initiated against dstv ab initio because they released a statement about an increase in prices with effect from May 1 2024.

The price increase has now been suspended by a ruling of the FCCPC.

So which confirmed are you referring to Sir.

Suspended indeed.

Shebi today is May 1st. Try subscribing and see if you'll be charged the former rate.

A company tells you that they've increased their subscription rates and you're here ranting about how FCCPC suspended the action. Does the government themselves obey court order?

Like I said earlier. Most of you Nairalanders just rush to post without reasoning.

Stalking you for what exactly...as celebrity way you be or what?

You were the one who spammed my mentions first.

I'm only pointing out your ignorance and arrogance. So that next time before coming out to embarrass yourself online you should first understand how things work in your country.
