Nigerians love strong things shabi.
A car that can withstand a crash and still be strong
A car that will never visit a mechanic workshop no matter how you use it.
A car that can travel from Lagos to Asaba with only #2k fuel (3lit)
A that will remain reliable and faithful even without a maintenance

Hi guys, i am about to get my first car.

Something small that can move me around lagos, with a budget of 2m to 2.5m max.

From my research it seems d best options for this price range are -:

Peugeot 206
Ford Focus
Kia Rio.

I particularly have a preference for hatchback cars.

Which will you advice me to go for? Thanks.

As a dealer, I would prefer you go for the Peugeot or kia. Coz ds two cars are economical and the part are not cos. Just easy to maintain. You can reach me on WhatsApp- 09038285500.

Buy a non converted Peugeot 206 and enjoy peace of mind. The Kia Rio is also a good choice but being a Peugeot fan and having driven the 206, 100% Recommended.
I agree with you 100% I drive a 206 too very economically and the Ac is one of the best but avoid Automatic transmission if you want peace of mind grin

Nice!! What about electrical issues associated with older Peugeot cars?

Does d 206 have it?
it doesn’t have electrical issues…just avoid automatic transmission then you are good.

Peugeot 206 is best.

Let me tell you the secret to longevity of that vehicle.

When you buy a tokunbo Peugeot, find a Peugeot expert not mechanic, I repeat not a roadside mechanic. There are companies that fix Peugeots only. change all the rollers that control the timing belt including the timing belt with the best original products in the market. It will serve you for 5years before it's due and the car will never give you any major issue. If you just keep driving it that way once it slips your top is gone with many damges.

Good luck
indeed you are well granded with Peugeot, I can’t agree less grin

Do you see this suggestion? Carry am for head like gala.
Get a 2004-2005 Civic if you can.

Peugeot? You would need a manual transmission. Electrical issues might be an issue.

Kia? I wouldn't touch that with a long pole. Years back, our company used them as fleet cars. They gave us a lot of issues ( maybe the drivers were making up stories too, who knows).

Ford? Don't know much about them but I don't know if they are reliable as the Asian brands of vehicles.

Good luck

For Kia if you can afford to take them to their service center then no problem. I had 2 Kia Kia Optima Presidential and a Kia Rio Auto, the day I used a normal Nigeria mechanic was the day it started having problems. That's why u advise people if they want to buy Kia either get a top mechanic or use their service centre for the spare parts I never bought secondhands straight from the company.

You don't buy cars to get involved in accidents with them.

Some people will say, "I like the car but it's not strong in case of impact." Bros, are you buying to get it crashed?
dont mind him, he is just talking nonsense….206 is a very strong car, and it’s very easy to maintain with very good Ac

Corolla 2003 Tokunbo is almost N8m now. The mentioned cars can be purchase almost 50% of Corolla price and will produce even or better performance with efficient fuel consumption

Your problem is that you are talking from the angle of deprivation. You are driving an old Murano and Rx300, and you're making noise. Bad roads have made this one sakivate over the prospects of driving towing vans. grin

Civic is it. There's a reason it's one of the most stolen vehicle in the US. There's also a reason why the 206 never entered the US market.

Not only the 206, there's no Peugeot in the U.S.
They're planning to enter the U.S market in 2025.

Well.. the Murano i still have, I had problems with the gear when i imported it, the gears was really a big problem so i dumped it for a Benz 320, the benz runs very well just that because.it is a 3.2 litre engine it costs so much on petrol, the parts can be a bit expensive too.

After i was i adviced by one mechanic to convert the Murano gear, at first i thought what? Convertion? How? Why? He told me that the car is just useless without a good gear, he even offered me 800k for it, i tried to see if i could buy a new gear but it was 750k in the end it cost me £450k to convert the gear, now it runs fantastic apart from it's petrol consumptions, it costs much on fueling, as it is a V6 engine as i was told.

The Honda Element is brilliant, never gives me any problems, very reliable and doesn't cost much fuelling it is a 2 litre engine, I imported from Houston sold to me by a 17 years old owner who bought another car.

The Benz i bought from the UK it was a right handed wheeel which i converted to a lefty in Naijaria. The other 2 i bought from the US

While I understand you position, we are looking at things from the present economic perspective. I'm a Benz/ German auto guy, but one advantage with using a Toyota brand is when your car develops a fault in a rural community. That's when you will appreciate the simplicity of Japanese models. In such environment, you will not have a specialist auto technician or a service centre. You will be staring face to face with our ubiquitous kazeem( local mechanics).
Any care that requires a specialist or dedicated service centre in present day Nigeria is not recommended for the middle class hustler. Simplicity is key. Thats where the civic comes in. Both the Peugeot and Rio he mentioned are not the forte of every mechanic.

True, that's why I don't recommend Kia for people unless you are ready to spend money rather I tell them Honda or Toyota, not a fan of Benz, BMW all the way.

This goes a long way to say that all cars cannot be the same for everyone. If you would ask some people here, they will discourage you from buying all the cars you mentioned. Yet, these are the cars you are using and are doing fine for you.

Do you still import cars? I imported my car myself too . Hoping to import another but this customs clearance feee is discouraging

Nice!! What about electrical issues associated with older Peugeot cars?

Does d 206 have it?

Any car can have electrical issues. The key is not to allow any wire Cut-Cut rewire near your car.

The Peugeot brand is specifically allergic to this. There is need to train rewires on this cos it has got many vehicles burnt 🔥.

If rewires has spoilt your car wires. Just buy a complete wiring harness and have fixed while the damaged old one is removed. This would guarantee the enjoyment of your car again.
