Procuring this road in the current state of the country's economy is a testimony to the fact that there is more than meets the eye. What Southern Nigeria needs right now in terms of road infrastructure is a complete reconstruction of the existing most economic thoroghfare in the country, the Shagamu-Ore-Benin-Asaba road. The Lagos end begins at Epe.

It will then continue from the Onitsha end through the existing road to Owerri-Portharcourt and connect to the existing East-West road to Cross River via Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states.

They encountered challenges in the lagos end due to numerous communication cables crossing the terrain, they can't progress the Lagos end and may have to divert the route after the unnecessary demolitions, an EIA would have identified this risk but none was conducted and now they are deceiving gullible Nigerians that they want to start from Calabar.
