Alot of Nigerian parents are too busy chasing money due to the economic situation of the country and have little or no time to tutor their kids on basic maths knowledge.
Most of the parents too are not well grounded on basic maths and so find it difficult to pass the knowledge to their kids.
They feel their school teachers should do it all after paying school fees and that is where they get it wrong as it is very difficult for the kids to grab what the school teacher is teaching at once.
If any kid miss this basic maths knowledge in the primary school, it will be very difficult to correct it as it is what will be used to develop further in their educational life.
Alot of students even in university fall prey to this as they can't answer basic maths questions because they missed it way back in primary school.
From time to time ,I will be dropping some basic maths hints here for Mummy's and Daddy's.

The formulas in geometry for circumference of a circle, area of a circle, area of a square, perimeter of rectangles,are very important.

They should know fractions which includes proper,improper and mixed fractions and also decimals and their conversions.

Ask the kids what is a percentage, what is a dozen, what is a score and what is a gross.

Addition and subtraction of fractions is very important for the kids.
They should learn how to add and subtract fractions.

Today's assignment involving addition of fractions

If the kids are in primary 3,teach them to upgrade in their knowledge of division of numbers.
For example 16 divided by 4,instead of counting 16 and then start dividing by 4 one by one,they should use their multiplication knowledge to know the answer.
We know 4 times 4 gives 16 so 16 divided by 4 gives 4.

How to convert fractions to decimals is very important in basic maths, first step is to draw your division table,the denominator should be outside the division table and the numerator inside.for example 4/5, 5 outside, 4 inside, 5 into 5 cannot ,then you put 0.at the top and add 0 to 4 to make it 40.Then 5 into 40 gives 8,8 times 5 gives 40.40 minus 40 gives 0.the answer is 0.8

Division of fractions is also very important basic maths and should be taught to the kids.

LCM knowledge is very important in knowing your basic maths so kids should be properly taught how to calculate their LCM.

Basic knowledge of HCF is also very important for the kids
