In any sane country, given the shoddy way accounts are kept as revealed by the fuel subsidy probe, the finance minister, the CBN governor ( I had been a fan of Sanusi), the account general, petroleum minister and GMD NNPC, and PPPRA chairman should have all resigned in shame and be banned by their respective professional bodies.

But, Nigeria is not a sane society.

Its rather unfortunate for Prof. not to have been able to find his way there with his 'axe' to get his cut of this national wealth.Sure he would have a different view if was in the train. He'd better rest his case cos his noise about Iweala'll yield nothing.

Maddock thanks for exposing those gaps between the various cabinet groups.

Very pathetic!!

The prof may be looking for attention. But the truth is that Okonjo is not good for that position. She should be deployed to ministry of special affairs or be made minister of state for finance if JEG could not run govt without her.
She should know that Nigerians are intelligent and brilliant.

maddock:

Please before anbody decide to open his dirty mouth to start crucifyin Prof West, go through the post below and tell me if it is not enough reason mass resignation in all of these parastatals. Farouk Lawan: what is Nigeria’s daily fuel consumption?
Diezieni: 52million Liters
NNPC: 35m liters
DPR: 43m liters
PPPRA: 24M liters
Okonjo: 40M liters

Farouk Lawan: What was the subsidy for 2011?
Diezieni: 1.4Trillion
Okonjo: 1.3Trillion
CBN: 1.7Trillion

Farouk Lawan: Can we have the KPMG REPORT?
Okonjo: I have to go through the report first
Diezieni: I have not seen the report

Farouk Lawan: What is the production capacity of our local refineries?’
NNPC: 30%
PPPRA: 20%
DPR: 13%
Diezieni: 15%

Farouk Lawan: Does Nigeria pay subsidy on locally refined Products?
Diezaini: it depends
NNPC: The lay man cannot understand how it’s done
PPPRA: yes
DPR: No

Farouk Lawan: Why is Kerosene still scarce?
Diezieni: Because its use by the aviation industry as aviation fuel
NNPC: Because there is no subsidy so NNPC overstretched its resources
PPPRA: it’s not properly deregulated

Farouk Lawan: what is the balance in the subsidy accounts?
Diezieni: it’s a virtual account
NNPC: There is no account in existence as the lay man will look at it
PPPRA: The account is a technical one
CBN: There is no account with us for subsidy
Okonjo: The account exists but not with a bank.

To be honest, the subsidy hearing was just an eye opener, this just shows poor internal controls, inefficiency and laxity plaguing the system, they all messed up, but it sure ain't no enough reason to call for her head.

If we study what TDW said, we find an iota of truth in it, Iweala has notin 2 offer as she has succeeded in brainwashing GEJ and only implementing the world bank and Imf policy in Nigeria.

Ufeolorun:

Go back and listen, read and watch her actions/role and assertions during the subsidy protests.I believe strongly,no accomplished professional would do all she did;flimsy and unsubstantiated excuses, inability to reconcile figures and assertions made.
So relative to what we were made to believe about her,yes she's empty.

Wheres Oby Esekwesili? shes a pro. wink

today oby is a pro, tmoro we will see you announcing to the high heavens how empty she is, once she doesn't tow ur line

Why do we celebrate mediocrity in Nigeria? Is it because of Nepotism, tribalism, religion or share Ignorance? I felt Okonjo Iweala did fairly well in her first dispensation but this time around she has been ineffectual. Maybe the responsibility of Prime Minister is too much for her to handle

I agree that corruption needs to be fought and fought seriously,  but his attack of NOI smacks of sour grapes. He that is a professor of virology, what are his legacies in the petroleum industry?

Her performance in her first coming is commendable unless TDW was not in this country. She was instrumental in debt forgiveness, public procurement reform, pension reform (together with health insurance two of the most important workers reforms in the history of this country), debt management, health insurance, increased transparency in federation account allocations, budget reforms (for the first time budgeting across MDAs was harmonised), monetisation (that Yaradua reversed), close to $80 billion excess crude and reserves (that Yaradua sheepishly allowed the state governors to squander part), radical reduction of Federal Government staff (again reversed), an achievable economic plan NEEDS (that was thrown out by Yaradua in favour of vision 2020). Unless one has a short memory or wants to play to the gallery, Okonjo did well in her first coming. Unfortunately, she is not fortunate to have a boss that has the tenacity and strength of character as OBJ. One who has the guts to fight corruption and fire the big fat leeches in the petroleum sector.

Tam David West's analysis of the fuel subsidy is off the mark in several of its assumptions and this has been exposed and debated well enough.

The economic sense of subsidy removal is spot on (even Labour agrees) but corruption and unbridled government spending (e.g. N1 billion for feeding in Aso rock) is what is making Nigerians resist it.

She, Sanusi and Deziani should've resigned by now; but they are incapable of shame. When decent people are exposed as incompetent that's what they do.

Exactly

Soludo was celebrated but later discarded by Nigerians but was taken up by a foreign institution.

Nuhu Elrufai was celebrated but later discarded by Nigerians but was taken up by a foreign country.

Oby Ezekwesili was celebrated but later discarded but was taken up by a foreign institution.

Now Ngozi who was celebrated is about to be discarded for the second time.

I pity my countrymen, A people that disgrace its own prophets should not cry foul when calamity comes calling.

I think Nigeria should be interested in uprooting the root of corruption in the system rather than be envious of her few successful citizens.

What has the class she graduated with got to do with the current situation in the country if not envy, Why have our great First Class professors that are busy sleeping with students across our campuses not been able to achieve half of her achievements both within and outside the country?

D same way Bankole was acqitted of any wrong doing. cheesy

Can u give just one of his acievements as two time ministers in two diff parastatals?
Prof Tam David West was prosecuted by a military government that he had fallen out with
And what was the crime - a bribe of
1. a wrist watch
2.a cup of tea
Can you believe that?
in order to sign a contract of $57million

Nobody believes that any Nigerian could be jailed for this offence, let alone a former minister
Would you really be happy to learn that Bankole was charged to court for taking bribe of a cup of tea + wrist watch?

I believe he feels he should be the number one Ijaw man, otherwise why is he suddenly so loud and always talking about peoples degree's not being up to his own these days? Instead, he is losing the little respect he still had. Its saddening.

Have a re-think, He's simply saying the truth! Why are there conflicting figure regards the Subsidy?

Why is every Nigerian a specialist in everything? Calling for her resignation because of your dissatisfaction or ignorance in the internal workings of different ministries and their inability to maintain a coherent and reliable database has been Nigerian way.

It is irresponsibility for one to call for dismissal of political office holder and not the Permanent Secretary that should know better as to furnish them with a perfect defence when the minister has not spend considerable time to know the workers working for cabals.

Where I work, management come and go however we keep reliable Safe Operating Procedure for any new incoming personnel to rely on.

NOI wasn't even the minister that presented the last budget that was passed into law. On what performance is she been judged. Is she condemned on the bases that Governors and the Presidency increased fuel price like every other previous Government? Which wasn't even a bad policy.

Hatred and Tribalism are always hidden motives every comment in Nigeria are based.
