Hernandez was immense. Very impressed with him. Should probably start ahead of Welb as he offers a real goal threat.

I really hope we can get our defence back in shape though. We're so bad defensively at the moment its not even funny.

the constant changing of personnel is not going to help! i dunno why it's taken forever for smalling & jones to get back - lazy twäts!

No point rushing them back if they're going to get injured again though or if they're not match fit enough. I would have preferred one of the reserve defenders to be thrown in at the deep end.

i doubt they have the desire to even get back! they are just drawing wages from the club doing nothing....i am tired of these lazy british defenders - it takes them forever to recover from injuries unlike the continental lads! fergie's scouts should scour Serbia and Montenegro and get us beasts of defenders who would play 70 games a season without a scratch!

I weep for this defence. They will disgrace us very soon.
We've conceded 3 against spurs, 2 against Stoke and another 2 tonight. 7 goals conceded in 3 matches at OLD TRAFFORD? Disgusting!!!!

You could look at things in two ways:the first (your position) makes it look despairing. And you are right.
But you could also look at the forward play.
Some of the attacking has been breathless, really. So far we manage to outscore teams or thereabout, not minding their quality thus far.
But I admit the defending is shocking. To be fair, it's hard given the injuries especially in CB.

And when they get crocked again, you'd blame United's medical staff for rushing them back too soon.
I think it's not right to blame those fellas. The fella from Serbia who could play 70 games a season has been injured for the greater part of 10 months.
These things don't have a blue-print or formula.Injuries happen, and we just have to deal with it.

de gea;
rafael; ferdinand; evans; evra(buttner)...
carrick; anderson; cleverley...
rooney; hernandez(welbeck); van persie...

this is the best start up team Man United can put out against Chelsea from the fit available squad

Seems ok, doesn't look at strong as before and didn't really see him making lots of tackles but that will come. Passing was pretty good though.

jones and smalling are less than 22, vidic is in his 30s.....
one would expect kids of 22 to recover quickly from niggling injuries cos they are still growing but these lads are comfy just playing "house" @ the treatment table doing nothing! they should get back into the team or retire if they cannot cut it.....the season is about 8 weeks gone now and we haven't seen any sign of recovery....it's quite pathetic!

montelik: Our new diamond formation looks to be a mixed bag. We had our best performance of the season against Newcastle using it, but it has looked very bland in our last 2 European games.
Europe and EPL. Two different things!

Our problem is d lack of a leader in d midfield n defence. I pray SAF adreses d issue n y d concedin of goal(s) ist.
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by montelik(m): 2:48pm On Oct 24, 2012
not particularly concerned about conceding. so long as we creating chances and outscoring the opposition.

our problem is sir alex......
he cannot choose a team without sentiments......there's no real reason to start the rvp/rooney last night. he had no senior defenders available - emphasis should have been put on protecting the back four with 2 destroyers......there's enough creativity in our front four to rely on the help of the deep lying midfielders. we are conceding because fergie pays too much attention to the attack than the defence......
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by codedguy1(m): 6:19pm On Oct 24, 2012
Must we go a goal down b4 we wake up. We have a knack for getting outta jail with situationS like that but like the spurs game taught us there would be days thatwe would not recover.

That defence can not afford to continually allow cheap early minute goals it usually gives the opposition some kinda confidence which may also be there undoing considering the fire power we have upfront. Everytime we are under attack I fear it would lead to a goal cos I don trust those guys in the defence.

As per jones and smalling, I tire for those ones its like they've conspired to stay injured. Its pathetic.

Do u tink we even hv destroyas? D only dm wich is average is Carrick(whose absent in d mid alwaz poses problem 4 us) n mayb Cleverly(who's stil improvin) or mayb bring in Ryan Tun.

The forward play is fantastic, I'm happy with that but we cant keep relying on our forwards to bail us out.
How long are we going to be expecting to outscore the opposition? We couldn't recover against Spurs.
In the CL, away goals rule could make the difference if we concede 3/4 at OT.

My problem is just not about conceding but the manner in which we concede.
Last 3 games at OT we've conceded early goals - 2 first half goals against Spurs, Stoke scored around the 15min mark or so, last night I was at OT, fans had barely sat down before Braga scored, 2 goals AGAIN within the first 20mins. It's not good enough.

I would understand if we were playing away from home or the goals were fantastic goals but schoolboy errors/defending leading to most of them.

Fergie should refrain from playing players out of position, Carrick is not a CB, why play him when we have youngsters like Wootton.
CB and GK are specialist positions - any one can play in the other positions as long as they are okay.
Why do we bother to keep these young lads if we cant be bothered to give them some games when needed. Send him on loan then.
When will the boy ever get a chance then if he cant get any when half of our defenders are crocked.
Thats why some of them are seeking to leave...Pogba was fit and ready last season when we played Blackburn when we were struggling for CMs but Fergie preferred to play Rafael and Park in there. How do you think the boy will feel?
It's a disgrace!

Mr_TA: Atleast we were the only british team to win a match in the round a games in the CL. tongue

it's cyclical -
we were in their position last season - every match was difficult to win and things didn't gel at all - although it was self-inflicted with fergie choosing shyte players in the group stages! after tonight's match, it's certain city won't qualify from the group again! they would still host mourinho's team and they have to worry about going to dortmund!
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nobody: 10:15pm On Oct 24, 2012
chamotex,
I agree totally with you.
It's a fact that Fergie has been losing his marbles for a long time.Had we managed a draw vs Blacburn we woulda been champions but that starting line-up Fergie fielded that day was as moronic as I've seen in all my years watching football.Even Amodu woulda been more circumspect in selection/tactics.
Fergie knew Smalling and Jones would be out for several weeks into the season. He didnt get cover during the summer.Yet Michael Keane and Scott Wooton are more than ready to compete at the top level, but they don't get even on the bench.
I'm just waiting for him to screw it up with another x-rated selection vs Chelsea on Sunday.
