Bailly has more pace than Smalling. What Smalling has as an advantage is his height which he has started using in a more effective manner. However in terms of pace, passing and quality on the ball Bailly is his master. Smalling is our worst defender in terms of passing and quality on the ball, i remember when i said this some were protesting.

if I remember correctly, the argument wasn't that he wasn't the worst person in terms of passing and quality on the ball, it was that there were visible improvements in these areas under van Gaal, compared to the previous season.
He seems to have regressed a bit but not to the level he was pre van Gaal. In terms of on ball confidence that is.

You are sure bailly has more pace than Smalling? Smalling Is sha quick, and I've not noticed bailly to be faster yet but I'll be more observant henceforth.

Lol, my earliest football memories are from 2002 world cup. Very faint though. I remember being in primary school, primary 3 and some matches being played in the morning, Nigerian time.

How our form teacher used to use radio to listen aloud to live commentary in front of class.

I have faint memories of Nigeria's stalemate with England (the last group match or so) and how enyeama was forming superman.

I also remember aghahowa's goal and his famous back dive celebration.

Amongst other things.. The final, one Turkish player that had one very interesting Mohawk, diouf and camara (I think) terrorizing France etc

Ww have very good four cetral defenders, if we add Blind we could say we have five. We can rank them and say let's play the best two. but it doesn't always work that way. There have to be partnership that will work. If we conclude that Jones and Bailly are our best, we have to also check their compatibility. Although I honestly beleibe Jones and Rojo are our best two (first and second) at the moment. They also have a better reading of the game.

for the partnership:
Jones and Rojo... working very well. best pairing so far.
Jones and Smalling.. working well
Bailly and Blind... worked very well at some point.
Bailly and Smalling... Average
Bially and Jones... did not work in the pre-season but Jones was not fit.
