I requested for 365days Tbills with GTB for the April 20th Bid.

But my account was just debited for the bid yesterday, April 26th @ rate of 9.34%.

Can anyone help me explain?

Both Tbills and FD are low risk investment, with the current trends right now I believe FD will give you something higher than T bills.
Let's say you do FD for a year at 9%(net with holding tax) your interest on 1m will be 90k at the end of the year.
Now the question on the rates you see, bear in mind all interest rates are per annum meaning if a bank or Tbills offers you 5% 1m for 3months, the calculation is first to get 5% of 1m then divide by 4 in order to pro relate it 3months since 12months makes one year.‎
Guy does that apply to Tbills? I.e a 90 day Tbill at 6.5. 1million will give you 65k or 65k divided by 3? Which one?

65K divided by 4 and not even 3. 91 days is a quarter of 364 days. That is N16,250

Yes it does. 90days is for 3 months. So you divide by 4 and not 3.

Thanks. I guess my decision to do 1.5m for 364 days in the last auction was a good one. Acct: ********
Amt: NGN1,358,461.02 Dr
Desc: TREASURY BILLS INVESTMENT-trBP 265 NTB364DAYS_AUCTION
Avail Bal: NGN ***. The bank (GT) charged about 1800 as custody & commission fee. At this rate it should be 9.3% of 1.5m or 10.2% of the deducted amount which is how fixed deposit is calculated.
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by quertyquack: 2:30pm On Apr 27, 2016
You think so? Wait a few months after budget is signed. You go see 14% for 182 days, 15% for 364. You go lock in for one year.

Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by freeradical(m): 2:29pm On May 05, 2016

As old as this thread is, and the level it has attained people are still asking when the next auction would be..
So all that people took out their time and energy to explain on how to determine the auction date are just nonsense? I just tire 4 some Nigerians and their fo@lish questions.

You ask question today, the answer will be provided, and another person will come tomorrow and ask the same question again.

I made my T-bill debut...

I just got alert from FCMB, that my #240000 bid @ 10.2% was successful.
Debit alert
DESC: VAL OF T-BILL
AMT:NGN215,661.66
While they charge #360 as custodian fee.

Haha, Zenith is one of the worst Banks in Nigeria. They portray themselves as diligent but scam.

Chai, I missed out, by the time I found out the bidding was today, first bank said they have stopped collecting bids.

I would have failed sha, planned to bid for 8%. but as soon as the budget is signed the 91 days will be up to 10%.

I will just do 30days fixed deposit with gtb and wait.

@mekaboy, how do you do FD with GTBank? I have an amount with them already. Thanks.

Can someone explain the difference between Treasury Bill (TB) and Federal Govt Bond (FB)? I know the max year for TB is 364 days and FB varies from 5-20 years. Any other differences?

For treasury bill you get the "interest" from the face value, while for bond the interest is bi annual.

Just go there they will give u a form to fill. Once ur done th amount will be deducted from your account. It 4.5% for anything above 1m for 30days. That's even if it's 1.01m.

I did 30 days because I am waiting for the budget to be signed. So once 30 days is over I go into Tbills.
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Rexceedo: 10:08am On May 09, 2016
Pls, is the interest of 4.5% monthly or yearly? I.e what will 1.5m accrue in a month? Someone told me is 4.5%/12=0.00375 for a month.
