zamirikpo: Emefiele has stated this more than 10 times!! No bank shall be allowed to go under! CBN will take over the bank and no depositor will loose his funds. For TBill Investment..its very easy! You have your Investment letters. Their Custodians have custody of the Bills. So no wahala even if push turns to shove! 3 Likes |

Hello house, please I need a clearer explanation of how profit is calculated for the 91 days tenor. I understand that of 364 days. But I am still a bit confused with that of 91 days even with the calculations I have seen on the thread. Please I need someone to help me out with the calculation on this example: Please, what will be the earnings on a T-bills of N1,000,000 @ 13.5% for 91 days tenor? Thanks |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by rosybabyy: 3:31pm On Jul 13, 2017 |

Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by vitality22(m): 3:45pm On Jul 13, 2017 |
dyonpoint: Do it your self I=(PxRxT)/(100x365) where I=interest (the interest amount you want to know) P=Principal(amount invested)= 1,000,000 R=Rate(percentage interest)= 13.5% T=Time (number of days)=91 days 2 Likes 1 Share |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Investnow2017: 3:52pm On Jul 13, 2017 |
Or 1,000,000 × 13.5% = 135,000 ÷ 365 = 369.86 x 91 Interest = 33,657.53 2 Likes |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by dyonpoint: 3:58pm On Jul 13, 2017 |
vitality22: I = (1,000,000 x 0.135 x 91)/36,500 I = 336.58 (this is what ur formula gives) |

vitality22: Now I see it from someone calculations. I think your formula should be I = ((PxRxT) /(100x365)) x T Thanks |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by dyonpoint: 4:12pm On Jul 13, 2017 |
Thanks all that reply... I appreciate. I have seen what I wanted. I was thinking doing 91 days nd compounding (reinvesting the interest) for a year will be better than subscribing for a 365 days tenor. I think it isn't. It is better to go for the 365 days at once. 1 Like |

Pls who knows why anyone would want to go for bonds despite better interest rates in treasury bills. |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by vitality22(m): 8:38am On Jul 14, 2017 |
dyonpoint: I didn't tell you to convert the 13.5%. Oga, use the 13.5% the way it is and not dividing it by 100. ie (1000000*13.5*91)/(100*365) Now you do it and tell me the answer |

Fm4real06: Poor. Why so low? Always request to see the ranges available in their system. Making the officer in charge a close parley can help him or her to open up and you will be surprised to see better deals in their computer. Anyway size of fund and tenor are a factor kind of. Always have a range in mind. Like me, for any tenor on the secondary market, anything less than 18% is unacceptable! 3 Likes |

I have a GT Bank account and I wish to apply for treasury bills. When can I apply for treasury bills? Between Stanbic bank and First bank, which is preferable because I am planning to open a new account because of this. |

Investnow2017:My Brother...please do I negotiate secondary market rates before giving the bank a go ahead on the tbills transaction? Or the bank will tell me the best rate before initiating the transaction? I am looking at the 180days tenure |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by unite4real: 3:19pm On Jul 14, 2017 |
partnerbiz4: very simple. Its called speculations. The treasury bills rates you see today, we refer to them as happy times. If you invested today in treasury bills at 18%. By next year, rates could start revolving around 10-11%. Even less than that. We have seen this before. Now with a bond of 15% now and you tie it down for maybe 5 to 8 years, your interest comes in without fluctuations. Its all about speculations. Sometimes early last year, treasury bills was as low as 11%. Now it's averaging 18% for 364 day tenor. This cannot continue. It may go higher above 20% and it may go lower below 11% by next year. It depends on a lot of economic factors and indices. 3 Likes |

rosybabyy:mama ...please did you get this at the secondary market? I think its about time I started using my stanbic account |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Investnow2017: 3:30pm On Jul 14, 2017 |
Shakitibob0: I don't negotiate. I determine the minimum rate below which i will not accept and ask them to tell me what they have in their system. Dont behave like you are new in the biz. Give them the impression that you know what you are doing and that you are familiar with the market. Yesterday, i was at the bank and the maximum i could get was below 17%. I rejected it and waited for today Friday because i know that good bargains come up here and there in the secondary market. Sometimes little patience can help. Its just a pity though that in the great majority of cases officers handling TB are hardly ever friendly. My account officer who used to call on me in my office in the past hardly pick my calls these because i do not do Fixed Deposit anymore 2 Likes |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by MrTour: 3:30pm On Jul 14, 2017 |
Just a quick info, the 14% you got is good, imagine if you had waited looking for an 18% offer and the funds stay in your account idle for the next one or two weeks, by the time you get the 18% in two weeks time, in hindsight you actually lost money from interest earnings even though the rate is higher. It is always best to lock in early with the best possible rate, waiting a week extra for better rate makes a difference. Fm4real06: 1 Like 1 Share |
