This is the highest rate on fbn bid dashboard as at this morning.

Investors might start shifting focus to FD. The often thick line between FDs and TBs is fast becoming thin

This to me is not a good offer at all.
I guess the banks are really capitalising on the fact that too many people are running after the longest tenor now that has resulted to over 1600% oversubscription in the last auction to exploit their customers.

The last stop rate was about 12% and the next auction and even up to end of this quarter MAY not get as low as 10% at the primary market for 364days tenor. So, they are simply exploiting the situation or arguing that it's caused by law of demand and supply.

If the secondary market continues to be poor like this, then my advice is for people to go for 182days since it's now easier to get 182days than 364days.

I for one will never opt for fixed deposit cause of the possible risk and the fact that there's no upfront or discounted rate coupled with the fact that whatever interest they pay is subject to being taxed by Government.

I have friends who were not able to access all their funds at the expiration of their termed fixes deposits cause their bank's were telling them stories and pleading to them to roll over.

That's just me for you grin grin grin

Stanbic secondary market rates for today
85 days is 9.2
148days is 10
232 days is 10.55.

Tony56 is spot on. The banks are taking advantage of their customers because of the prevailing bearish TB market. Despite the historical recent low rates last week in the primary market, the rates are still better than what the banks are offering now.

Your calculation of N9500 would have been right if the tenor is for 364 days. This is very unlikely since you are buying from the secondary market. Your interest of N2700 is most likely for about 103 day tenor from my calculation. You also need to make a small allowance for the little bank charges

Those who are used to reinvesting their interest won't have a problem with your first paragraph.

As for the second, deposit targets must be met grin.

The upside is, you can get better rates for the roll over if your fund is huge and insist on termination.

You can also try non banking financial institutions, which offer higher rates than banks

Thanks guys for the response..@otus, spenca.

it's for a 106 days tenor. I understand the interest calculation now, and yes the interest paid (2700) on my 100, 000 is correct..

longer tenors get better returns in term of interests. ive learnt
