Please, before you begin to weep like an idiiot, be sure to visit the place first to confirm, instead of fooling yourself on the internet.

Ndu Chucks initially was a noisemaker just like you. But after actually taking a trip to Imo, he has learned to keep shut. You should read his posts to confirm for yourself.

Of course I have my reservations regarding some of his policies, but it would be foolhardy to insinuate that he has achieved nothing in the short spell of his administration.

For starters, I am not very sure whether he thought through some of his socialist moves. The free kerosene was a one off, so I will cut him some slack on that as that was a gesture to the public that his administration will consider their needs.

The free education was also a good idea for primary and secondary schools, but I think that free education for Imo indigenes in Imo State tertiary institutions should have been replaced with a scholarship/bursary scheme, which would be academic, sports, arts or means tested.

Imo state is already the most educated state in Nigeria by a mile and people are already going to school without any inducement and many people try to go to school regardless of the cost, therefore the free education across the board was a huge relief and enough incentive and there was no need to also give monthly stipend and blanket yearly bursary/loans to Imo students. The payment scheme to the students is unnecessary and probably unsustainable, but we will wait and see.

Now, in the short spell of his administration, he has changed the way things were done in the past. For the first time in a long while all areas of Imo are receiving attention and roads are being constructed in all local governments. Orlu and Okigwe are receiving attention with regards to their roads and some of the roads in those areas are being converted to dual carriages.

The Owerri ring road which has been on the master plan since God knows when is also being worked on. Ohakim started the actual construction with the flyovers at Orji and Amakohia, but Rochas has continued the project from where he stopped. Several bad roads in Owerri have also been fixed and schools are also receiving attention, with buildings being upgraded.

There are various ongoing projects in the state capital and the site for the 23 storey five star hotel has been cleared in Area N with actual construction due to start soon. Imo’s status as a top hospitality destination in the country is indisputable and I support the construction of this hotel. Although there are many classy hotels in Owerri, I once found my self going from hotel to hotel trying to get an accommodation, so more hotels are welcome.

According to the state government, the 9 storey Concorde hotel has now being turned around from a loss making to a profit making hotel. The hotel is also being expanded to include the chalets which were originally meant to be part of the commissioners’ quarters. Rochas said that this hotel now makes enough money to offset most of the wages of the ministry of culture and tourism. And the goal of the government is to make the ministry to be self sustaining while bringing some revenue to the state. This is also his goal for other ministries.

No too long ago, the governor also laid the foundation for the tile factory in Mbano and he is also giving attention to the moribund ones and trying to get investors to resuscitate those industries. Avutu poultry is one of those industries.

According to the state government, the PPA on Imo Transport Company has brought in more than 200 million naira to the state government and the management compay has also expanded and employed more people in the state.

The agreement with a foreign company to manage ADAPALM has so far brought more than 3 billion naira to the state government and the management company has increased production and also employed more people.

Finally, although the government has been unnecessarily socialist in some of the recurrent expenditure, the administration is also trying hard to generate as much revenue as possible and to provide an environment for private investments to flourish.

I've been to Imo State lately and I can testify that everywhere is transformed but I have my reservations because a lot of projects are still ongoing and if left unfinished could lead Imo worse off. Amaechi has kept us in serious hardship for 5 years running as a result of uncompleted road projects. I don't think Imo citizens can be that patient. 2ndly the quality of roads being constructed is suspect and could be a problem in the waiting for future Government.

Madam Kobo, I can see that you have dropped your "mad man jaw drop" emoticon and reverted back to the good ol' ROFLMAO. By the way, have you managed to contact "Imo help desk" to find out if there is an airport in Owerri? Oh, never mind, I know what your response will be:

Anybody who thinks Rochas Okorocha has added significant growth to the Owerri ring road is delusional. I was at the Owerri three months after Rochas assumed office, December 2011 and March 2012, there is no patch of cement added to Ikenegbu overpass of the Owerri ring road. I was completely shocked to see the clearing adjacent F U Anayawu Steel Industry has not progressed beyond 25 yards since the December 2011 when I left Owerri. Douglas/Old Market Road junction has been taken over by garbage. The streets he graded during my December 2011 visit to Owerri have not been tarred yet.

To those who claimed Rochas Okorocha has granted unlimited scholarship to students in Imo State, do you have a ward in any level of institution in Imo State? Rochas Okorocha has great ideas that would be suitable in his household but Imo State. I am afraid the dude will not give cogent answers if he is queried by EFCC.

My mum was in Owerri last week and came back saying that the place has new paint and the officials were in New Uniforms and the roads looked a lot better. Apart from that, I don't know what the man's achievements are to date. In fact, I take a wait and see approach given that many of the stories have yet to highlight solid changes in the state, as far as I know.

All I have stated so far is that if we are going to tow the line that FREEBIES constitute ACHIEVEMENT then we ought to consider the FREEBIES that the Jonathan Administration, and Akala doled out on the same Level. That is all!

See defense mode ooo!!!! ROFLMAO!!

Okorocha declares free education in Imo

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

THERE was jubilation in Owerri, the Imo State capital, as the state governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, on Tuesday, declared that no student or pupil of the state origin studying in any institution owned by the government would pay fees henceforth.

The governor also announced scholarships for all students of the state origin from primary to tertiary institution.

Speaking at the Imo Freedom Square, Owerri, Okorocha promised to pay scholarship of N100,000 to each student of Imo origin in Imo State University, adding that each recipient would get N70,000 free and N30,000 as a loan to be paid upon completion of studies, with no basis for collateral.

He also said students undertaking National Diploma (ND) at the state polytechnics would receive N60,000, with N40,000 free and N20,000 as loan, while those undertaking Higher National Diploma (HND) would get N60,000 free and N20,000 loan.

The governor disclosed that the scholarship fund would be paid from the next academic session, adding that by September, every school in the state would be autonomous.

Imo trains doctors, others on emergency rescue mission

Written by Joe Nwachukwu, Owerri
Thursday, 28 July 2011

Determined to rescue the health sector and save lives of its citizens, Imo State government, on Wednesday, concluded the training of doctors, paramedics and security personnel in emergency response mission with respect to accidents and other disasters.

No fewer than 1,000 participants, drawn from the public and private sectors, benefited from the exercise.

About 15 specialists delivered lectures on how to save lives during health-related emergencies.

The special adviser to the state governor on health, Dr Sylvanus Amaechi, whose office coordinated the two-day seminar in collaboration with INFAX Nigeria Limited, described the exercise as “a huge scientific and academic programme geared towards taking health care to the door steps of Imo citizens.”

Dr Amaechi, a renowned orthopedic surgeon and a former president of Nigerian Orthopedic Association, told newsmen that Governor Rochas Okorocha approved the seminar, to keep medical practitioners and security agencies involved in health matters abreast of developments in the management of trauma and accidents.

He said the seminar was conducted free of charge.

He said professionals in the areas of surgery, orthopedic, gynecology, radiography, neo-natal medicine and other specialised areas lectured the participants on quick response measures to emergencies.

“Our governor is not only the commander of free education, he knows that we have to be alive and healthy to benefit from free education, hence his emphasis on this seminar,” Dr Amaechi quipped.

He said the rescue agenda of the Okorocha’s administration was all embracing and that health formed the integral part of his mission.

Dr Amaechi said it was expected that the seminar participants would avail their colleagues of the knowledge they acquired in furtherance of the health policy of the state government.

The special adviser announced that the General Hospital, Umugum,a where the seminar was held, would soon become a specialist hospital.

Re: What Has Rochas Achieved In Imo State by jason123: 5:33pm On May 18, 2012
Yes, it is an achievement!

Why don't we like to praise people that are working?! But if its people like Akala or Slyva, we will sing their praises to the high heavens!

I love Rochas because he is a socialist! How many states have free education?!

Having Rochas and Fashola (I don't care which becomes the VP) as our President and Vice will do this country a whole lot of good!

Stop lying there! a lot of brand new roads now exist in Owerri. I saw a brand new dual carriage way between control and Douglas said to link Aba road, I also saw like 4 brand new dualized roads between Assumpta and FUTO. i also noticed about 5 different new housing estates. I noticed that the secretariat was undergoing speedy reconstruction. I've not visited Orlu and Okigwe but I heard they are now almost standard cities in terms of quality infrastructure.
