erm ok, so to cut to the chase, the summary of your postulations is that SYMBIAN is better than ANDROID?

thats not worthy of argument. End of.

Young man, I have never said any os is better than any other but that if you think one is better, then giving reasons shouldn't be so hard. Do you want me to accept android is better simply because you say so especially when worthy reasons are lacking?

I knew it, you're just a roadside gsm engineer....you're a big fraud.

you're here trying to steal information about various phones that you'll use to make those unfortunately undiscerning people think you're good with phones but you're not because you don't know jack\

you're just a big waste of time...i'm done with you. i actually thought you had something intelligent to offer that was why i got into the exchanges with you thinking it was going to be an intellectual engagement...mtsheeew

Its so annoying that with every post you prove how much of a novice you are.

Who I am is of no use to this discussion so please stop trying to derail. When you're good at something, people easily find out. Many people are surprised when they use my phone and see me doing stuff with it they never thought were possible on a mobile.
But even if I'm a road side engineer, you are worse cos I easily dismiss you and your lies anytime we meet. So its no surprise you always come up with stuff like this as its your easiest escape route.

But if you think I'm like you then you should visit the following threads:

and Lastly this thread.

Every time you come up with trash I easily dismiss you just like on this thread and the lumia vs galaxy thread.

you can convert a video file from one format to another right on your android phone. you can play dvd folders files right on your android device..this two great stuff can not be done on any symbian device.

Blackteeth: I use both Android and Symbian therefore am in position to post in this thread.
Starting with Android, I have discovered that it uses your data bundle excessively. Secondly, the battery life is poor compared to Nokia. Apart from that, no other problems. Android has alot of applications compared to Symbian, therefore you can do much more with it.
Talking about Symbian, Nokia has a very strong battery and hardware better than other brands of phones and therefore lasts longer. Thats the big advantage of Nokia

Here's my personal experience. I'm currently using Samsung Galaxy Young S6102, which is quite good with all my necessary applications, but it has the following grave limitations, which has necessitated the urgent need for another one to make up for the shortcomings:

1) Data consumption extremely HIGH; 15MB lasts 24hrs max.
2) Fully charged battery doesn't last beyond 18hrs, which I suppose is due to data consumption.
3) Closely related to that, up to 12 apps run in the background; WhatsApp I understand but the rest are absolutely out of my control amd it's turning me nuts.
4) Totally disappointing Task Manager. Every time I try to return to whichever browser it will reload all the pages I was on, and if I minimise the browser long enough, say 20mins, God help me.
5) Internal memory is another BIG disappointment, it's simply impossible to install a few additional apps to those shipped with the phone.
6) Talking of disappointments, the camera is the train.

To enjoy my free weekly data allowance and long battery life I always depend on my wife's Nokia 200. Imagine...

otumfour: take this! and this is coming from an IOS grin dude, ANDROID is 100 times betta than symbian (notice I spelt symbian in lowercase) in every aspect. angry

welcome!

Okay! But comparing Android with Belle, on data consumption, battery life and Task Manager, what would ur verdict be?
I'm actually at the cross-road of choice.

beethoven:

For Android, the data and battery consumption issues are true to an extent but the real problem is that people that use android just go to the android market, install applications that are always connecting to the Internet for updates. Sometimes you'd have a situation where some people would have more than 2 weather monitoring applications installed on their android phones, with all these always connected for updates. If add up other scenarios where u have more than one application for the same purpose, u'd simply zap off your data bundle in no time. Same thing goes for battery, people tend to always have too many applications opened at the same time and left running even when they are not in use. Also u don't have to use 3G unless u really need it, u can change ur network settings to always use Edge. I currently use this strategy and it works fine for me. I've never used more than 500MB of data in a month no matter how many applications I have opened and requesting updates.

Hey guy! See how U talk of 500MB like it's no big deal; that's well over 15MB in a single day. Cost of that will afford U BIS and leave U with good change.
Long and short, android is NOT data efficient at all.

Re: Android Vs Symbian Phones, Which Is Better? by geniusbami(m): 3:04am On Aug 30, 2012
dmainboss: An note that your phone must be rooted to be able to install Droidwall and new ROMs. Many network locked phones are not rooted.

Also when you browse, the amount of data consumed is dependent on the browser settings like image quality, javascript support, compression algorithm and offline setting. You can simply tweak those from your browser to manage your data. Most Nokia phones comes optimised to use less data. Android is normally set to give you an exciting browsing experience with high end graphics and lot more. So you have to set it to consume less.

The point is, comparing and Android phone to a symbian phone is like comparing a laptop to a symbian phone. An Android phone is a "mini laptop". You can't expect a laptop battery to run for 2 days, can you?

Pls, I think ur posts are making sense to me, but pls tell me,

what does it mean for my Samsung S6102 to be rooted and how can I get and install the Droidwall, new ROMs (need more clarifications on this pls) and Google Chrome for Android?

Thanks.

I already know all that so stop claiming a guru with me. I wouldn't stop every services completely cos there are important apps I use that I would love to obtain update notification as they arrive. Why would I entirely stop all services running? Then whats the essense of using the phone?
Listen man, all this doesn't change the fact that the Android battery life is poor and data consumption is higher compared to Nokia smartphones. Accept that. Simple

Boy, there's essence in what he's saying; listen and learn.
When U've stopped all 'Auto Sync', disabled 3G and killed inactive apps, ur droid still runs at least, 11 apps that U don't have ANY control over: THOSE ARE THE CULPRITS CONTENDING FOR BATTERY and DATA!

dmainboss. Yes nokia started making wp bcuz symbian was dying. They didn't condemn it totally and they even released anoda symbian recently; nokia 808. They just needed more profit. We d consumers still hv our choices to make. Though i haven't used an android, i've heared lots of stuff abt poor battery life. One thing i adore abt my s60 is it's amazing ba3 life. And i won't give it up 4 anytin. Afterall, what's a phone without gud ba3 just a toy.

we should decide on WHAT GROUNDS do we compare Symbian and Android
Cos when it's popularity, Android wins
But when it's battery usage, Symbian wins

So ......... how do we compare the two?
The best way would be a weighted average of ALL relevant traits, like

popularity, for 30 percent
speed, for 5%
battery for 10%

etc. etc.

In my opinion, i think this thread should be closed due to the following-
* symbian is unsupportd by leading developers of 2012 and 2013. Android is supportd by every developer
*since u are talking about symbian belle,(latest s60 OS) lets compare it with jellybean (latest android OS), the "battery" problem is totally/ almost non-existent. Even on older android OS versions, na only mumu go run, golauncher, emailsync 24/7, HDgames, whatsapp, instagram,3g, wifi, and expect its battery to last forever. The hardware of symbian fones is bullsheet so it doesnt demand battery. Baba N8 had 258mb ram and mediocre 600mhz cpu (remote control motherboard). s2 has 700mb+ ram and dual core 1.2ghz cpu which demands battery life and still gets the job done!
*the symbian OS is defficient in so many ways! Belle updates slow down most nokia devices, jellybean updates turn ur device into the incredible hulk+iron man all in one!
*fanboyism is worrying u archaic symbian boys. We all loved our symbian back then, but mahn, things are moving on-- even nokia!-- windows 8 mobile is their new child. Be wise
Re: Android Vs Symbian Phones, Which Is Better? by bedfordng(m): 9:20pm On Mar 06, 2013
well, to me it all depends on what you do with the phone.one thing is buying a phone and making good use of it for what it is made for.if you ask some people, they would tell you they even prefer symbian than bb but to cut the long story short, you cant compare symbian and android.its like compariing java phone and symbian.in time to come nokia would have no option than to come up with their android os phones.yes you cant stop all app from running cause they are very important apps that needs to run 24hrs for any android phone to perform optimally but you can still stop some reasonable amount of downloaded apps using task manager apps like advance mobile care and droidwall for internet apps like whatapps, facebook and the rest of them.if you have money for data and extral battery, then you can give android phone a try and see the difference for yourself.i even prefer nokia java phone than their symbian cause it has more battery life and also the difference is clear..........wink......wink. ; D

ok i want to add to this yes android has more apps android also has better graphics by far but in buying a smartphone its usualy bought for socialising and business and both android and symbian do the same ting but am not asking u to agree wit me but an symbian would b better just bcuz its a nokia and nokia has a long lasting battery and they are hard to break if u take a nokia and slam it agains concrete the concrete cracks but at the end of the d day both do the same ting but the symbian stays alive longer cuz android use alot of power i no cuz i hav a galaxy tab2 plus half the apps 4 android are useles like roll a blunt

dmainboss:

No offence intended bro but I find posts like this a little ignorant. All smart phones generally have a poor battery life because they are practically little computers. What you need do is get a replacement battery with bigger capacity i.e. Samsung phones normally come with a 1500mAH but you can get a 3500mAH replacement battery and get like 2 extra days of power(depending on your phone use)

Like computers, smart phones have lots or services running in the background so you have to learn to manage that. You can get taskmanagers and killers from google play/app market. IPhones also have taskmanagers. Making sure only necessary apps are running can save a lot of battery power for you.

Also, Android comes with a lot of customizable ROM. Some of these ROMs come with better battery life. I use a Dark Night ROM on my Samsung Captivate running Ice Cream Sandwich and its beatiful, fast and has good battery life. This is where Android leaves everyone else dead on their tracks.

On data consumption, again, it is ignorant to say Android consumes too much data. It consumes much data because don't know what to do. It is just like installing windows and activating automatic update and later complaining that your laptop is consuming to much Internet data. Just simply turn off automatic sync and background data services on your Android and you are good to go. Or better still, get Droidwall or similar app and just allow only necessary apps to use Internet service by adding them to your white list. Very simple and cute. Sometimes, it pays to ask questions so you don't look bad on forums like these.

Please don't insult an Android phone by comparing it with a symbian phone. It is just absurd. My Android phone can even check my BP, Heart beat and surrounding temperature. Only an IPhone can match that.
On point, how do you off the automatic sync and background data services?
