factbox: Hynmmmmmmm! after reading all the correspondent posts so far, here is my advice for all our youth back home, before i write anything i will like to aknowledge some ppl dat will get back @ me for posting dis simple truth. buh d truth still needs to be told anyways, There is no where like home HONESTLY! here i am in Hamilton Ontario Canada, i am a student here and i have couple of naija folks here too ranging from young to adults. i find your post interesting, i am a permanent resident and i live in Manitoba and although i have not had much reason to go to hospitals but to the best of my knowledge i think health care is completely free and you only have to pay for drugs, although there are private facilities around if you can afford them, but the public system is pretty standard. the fact is that canada is not heaven, but it is way better to live than most places in the world, if you have things around you right, like being a permanent Resident, and have good friends and a good job, live in canada can be amazing! 2 Likes |

canadaik: Guy, leave @factbox alone. She is a lady.Maybe she thought people dash out money in Canada like in Naija. So she is shocked to pay for her drinks/food when she has a date. That is part of the cultural shock. That she pays little health insurance as an international student is what she lamenting. Assuming she is to pay for consulting and lab work(the minimum a Dr takes per visit is ~$30). @factbox, today is Canada Day, pray and thank God for the country to continue in a system that works and also reflect how U can help produce working n transparent institutions in naija when U return. |

Emotionally, Nigeria is better than Canada because of the communal life here in Naija. We could hang out with friends freely(that was when security was sure), unlike the individualistic lifestyle in Canada. But in every other indices, Nigeria is a dwarf where Canada is. When U say people are suffering, aside Heaven(for those who will make it), No where in this world is without its challenges. As a student, after 6month of continuous studies U can get a work permit n work off-campus. Can U do that in Nigeria? How about part-time job which lots of people are surviving with? Can U even see that in Nigeria? In terms of amenities, don't U use what U pay for well? To pay ur electric bill and see or remain in darkness with pocket full of money, which do U prefer? Abi U want to start sending money home even as a student? Nigeria and Canada have 2 different value systems, so adjust accordingly. Don't despair Please, U have a bright future a head. 1 Like |

I suppose you are frustrated with the fact that you are an international student and you pay much while you make little or no money. Comeon its just a matter of time, you have a bright future ahead. I just don't understand what you are trying to tell our people back home, your post sound like a 'deterrent' to those aspiring to move abroad to probably better their lives; its their choice. I understand when U said U were independent here in Naija. But U made Ur choice to move there and it's for a good purpose IMO. About our youths being creative, most naija youth are very creative and intelligent. But, our system does not encourage creativity. Our value system has changed from dignity of labor, integrity and respect for human to Money and material wealth. Hence, the mad rush to make as much money as u can irrespective of the means. Now, creativity is most time in the negative direction. We need our institution to work(like electric power, transportation, education etc) the give us 10 more yrs we'll go places. But I still believe more opportunities abound where U are. just get done with school, U can be hire from any part of the world. How many people get hired in Nigeria from companies in foreign lands? |

@factbox Please i take God beg you leave Canada after finishing your studies and come back to Nigeria, na God I take beg una ok u don hear? People like factbox are people who travelled abroad with the expectation of a red carpet welcome, factbox and the likes taught they'll be plucking money on trees, she perharps taught within 6 months she can come back to Nigeria to oppress others. You're comparing a country where once you finish your studies you can get a job, use your earnings to rent or buy your own home, car, and live a good life to a country that if you don't know somebody or warm some people's bed you can't get a job? If after working in Canada, you still don't have money in your pocket you need to ask yourself why you have been living beyond your own means. In Canada health is free (of course you have to pay for your own medications same as UK but if you're on low income you're bound to get some help from govt), Child benefit in Canada is about $400 monthly for each child, you also get help towards paying for your child care if you have to work or study and so many other benefits that make you feel the impact of the government abound. So when next you want to discourage people from migrating to a place like Canada, tell them its because its not a place for handouts but a place to work for your own money rather than posting about your non existent 'suffering' My advise for people who want to migrate is to go on the right visa, be prepared to face challenges, have a focus and most importantly don't expect to be a millionaire immediately you landed, they don't plcuk money on trees in Canada or any other country YOU WORK FOR IT! 1 Like |

Going through the whole posts it just occurred to me that in 1979, the exchange rate of the naira to the pound was £1= 0.60k, a dollar was far less, the canadian dollar was no where to be found, our economy was on top, we had potentials of aligning ourselves a par with theses countries, people didn't need piles and loads of documentation to travel abroad, so many fortunate people whose parents left for canada left because U.I and IFE, didn't admit them, so many lecturers were sent on sabbatical because they needed to exchange, and further more develop their intellectual base, now our governments over time and the years, have failed us, to the point that we have to apply for 1-3years to be given skilled "mai nene" visa, some come and brag about it, where as they have contributed in any bit or manner, to the development of nigeria, they want to come back and become ministers and D.G because they have gone to acquire foreign certifications some even praise those countries because they have light and water as if we can't do the same if just if, we had the right people in place, the descendants of Prof magnous kpako the formal S.A to the president of nigeria on poverty eradication was collecting millions and billions for pilot projects which never brought direct development, rather "keke Napep", where other countries where bring in toyota motors to assemble cars, that are economically viable, they designed un-implementable models for the nigerian state, only to come here collect all our moneys (salaries and allowances) to pay their mortgages outside nigeria and their school fees debts, some lie to themselves that foreign countries are better then nigeria because of ephemeral issues which could have been solved if the leaders even gave a direction of where they want nigeria to go, we all want the best for ourselves but are these conditions where racism exist directly or indirectly the best for us? The question is where and what did we do wrong? What did yours and my fathers do wrong that has made us reach this level were we que to get out of nigeria? What are we still doing wrong? @factbox a lot of what you have said is true and a lot of people wouldn't still accept those facts because the sun is fortunately shining on their side of the world, but for more emphasis though a lot of us wouldn't accept no matter what, could you plz give us a list of some of the bills being paid and taxes?
