Spectators do drive to the stadium to watch matches. Not everyone walks to the stadium for all events. He needs a car park to make this edifice meet modern standards.

I don't know why he chose that place for the stadium. The place was proposed for Sullivan Chime Square, equivalent of Okpara square in Enugu
