Doesn't state whether it's mineral oil, semi or full synthetic.. 3 x 5quart = 15k.. instead i go just balance 5k buy Mobile 1(US) full synthetic na..

Not everyone can afford the "Mobile-1" like you sha grin

Anyway, for those who don't know, the effects on the engine are at par with the Mobil-1. Actually, its just a discounted Mobil-1 oil branded for Toyota. So you are getting Mobil-1 performance at a discounted price

Toyota doesn't allow the publishing of the contents of the oil. However, they tell you it contains an "addictive" that ensures the long term performance and protection of your engine. And we all know such addictives are synthetic abi. That is not in doubt at all. Finally, when your oil rolls out the same factory as Mobil-1 Oil, priced almost at par with the Mobil-1 oil, gives the same performance as Mobil-1 Oil, Rated SN ILSAC GF-5.... bros, i nor go school, but something tells me its most likely the same as Mobil-1 oil branded under Toyota

By the way, the actual retail price of the Toyota Motor Oil is 3,500 per Litre grin

Same factory, same rating doesn't not mean same quality(TMO could be better or could be less).. I work in a production firm, so i know what am saying....

Hahahaha bros ..Plus the shipping from PH to lagos, Price go balance out with Mobile 1 na... I no do Again

POST MODIFIED
Same factory? Yes
Same formulation? No.
Same quality? Yes

Toyota has a formula which it presented to Exxon Mobil, Exxon Mobil brewed the oil to Toyota's specifications.

Toyota specification is MOST CERTAINLY NOT THE SAME as ExxonMobil's

It is a misconception to think that same assembly lines means same products or formulations,to that extent, I agree with the learned objection and submission of the guy with the production firm experience

I am just being sarcastic with you. The point is they're both premium oils and you can hardly tell them apart physically or performance wise. That's my point.

No worries o. Take it easy man grin

Bros u did not post anthing factual either, Just same tales by moonlight..

The Toyota 0W20 is designed to be as light as possible at typical start-ups and especially for use in Toyota's hybrid vehicles.

The Toyota 0W20 VI is one of the very highest, 216, compared to Mobil 1's much lower 173. Toyota's 40C cST is 37.38 cST compared to Mobil's 40C 44.8cST. ( Lower is much better here )

Toyota's 100C is 8.54 cSt compared to Mobil 1's 8.7 cST.

In addition, the HTHS of the Toyota 0w20 is 2.6 compared to Mobil 1's 2.7.....and the AW package is much better also.

What the numbers all mean is that the Toyota 0W20 synthetic is about 35% lighter than M1's 0W20 at 0C (32F) and 25% lighter at room temperatures. These factors all combine for easy starts and less wear for the frequent start/stop operation of the Prius ICE ( and other Toyota's where it's specified for use ) and for maximum fuel economy.

There have been many UOA's that substantiate it's durability up to 10K and that it protects very well.

It's an excellent oil for use in all Toyoa;s Hybrids and other non-hybrid engines it is spec'd for.

Credits: I don't claim credit copied! But see also https://priuschat.com/threads/toyota-oil-vs-mobil-one-oil.103907/ and don't forget that Toyota says you can use any oil provided that it is ILSAC CERTIFIED.

If you read those links enlightened people have opted for a package whose contents are explicit and so can be compared from time to time, if it changes you know, if it stays the same you know.

Other enlightened people have decided to go by the brand instead.

A matter of choice and taste BUT then thebigkendo is right in so far as there is no breakdown of the contents, personally I would go with a brand whose contents I can inspect or form a conclusion on.

Your car, your choice!

... but work is close to home and I didn't use it in my journeys this year.
I guess it's Mobil-1 (US) or Coastal again.

... and SmartchoicesNG? My engine and "tyre legs" are as sound as a pin.

1. Not much, she did say she tried fixing a knocking sound immediately after starting the car, that aside nothing more.
2.very much intact
3. She's just serviced 0nce with mobil 1, not sure the exact oil grade but in her words she spent over 20k to change oil and filter. the car is about 10month old with her. Was bought direct Belgium. Present odo reading is about 60k plus *I'm not ruling out the fact that maybe the mileage could have been rolled back upon purchase*
4. Factory setting

Can't seem to locate any brand with genuine API seal to buy in Nigeria so i just opted for Mobile 1(US).. Where do you buy?

Where are you located? I opened a thread featuring a store that is the most stocked in Abuja as far as lubricants go. It's at Gudu parts market. Will find the thread and post the link shortly

kkon:
where do you buy it and does it have 5w20 Oil spec.

@Piyke
I'm close to 3, 000 miles on my V6, 7 months already. Is that 8k oil a 5W-30?
Do you mind posting pictures?

The oil has both 5w-20 and 5w-30. See image of the former below.

That's my only reason for using 5W-30.

... but don't you think 5W-20 is a little too thin for cars well over a decade old?
That's my only reason for using 5W-30.

People in the US with these same cars (well maintained) still use the recommended 5w-20. The key is whether the engine is worn. A good predictor of engine wear is the amount of oil consumed by the engine. As I stated earlier my car uses just an additional 0.53L 5w-20 (4.73L in total) through my inter service period. By all means if an engine consumes more than the volume of oil recommended by the manufacturer as normal consumption per 1000km it makes sense to switch to higher weight oil.

But if your liver permits only 5w-30 cheesy stick to it.
"My" rule of thumb, is to avoid low-weight synthetic oils in high mileage engines. Synthetics will flow more and might just expose weak seals which mineral oil won't.

I am about to pay for a Civic 03, I noticed the D light blinking.
Called "kazeem", he said the gear needs servicng that the oil isn't "guaged".

Oga Gazuz said d blinking is a fault on the gear, any idea where I can scan this car in Abuja or an affordable device to buy to determine the real problem.

This would go a long way for me in buying this car
