Enugu is a beautiful city with obvious cultural and natural heritage. I once lived there. The intended sites have potential to make Nigeria's tentative list. UNESCO world heritage sites are of great economic significance and Nigeria is so blessed that it should be a major global tourism hub.

Some existing heritage sites in Nigeria:

Sukur Cultural Landscape: Located in the Mandara Mountains, this was Africa's first cultural landscape to be inscribed on the World Heritage List.

Ogbunike Caves: Located in Anambra State, these caves are a natural wonder with historical and spiritual significance to the local people.

Oke-Idanre Hill: Located in Ondo State, this site consists of valleys, a high plain, and inselbergs that are about 3,000 feet above sea level.

Ancient Kano City Walls and Associated Sites: Inscribed in 2007.

Saw this on instablog earlier. First of all, there is need for thorough investigation to separate the guilty from the innocent.

Those proven guilty should be severely dealt with, especially the foreigners. Imagine coming into a country to build a massive facility that will churn out criminals on that scale!

Hopefully we meet all economic parameters and overshoot our projections.

There's dire need for economic diversification, transparency, accountability and sincerity of purpose in creating a safe and conducive climate for investors (foreign and local).

Wasteful recurrent expenditure should also be emphatically addressed once and for all so that focus can shift to capital budgeting and productivity.

GBV is endemic in northern Nigeria. Too many sad stories. I don't think it is enshrined in any true religion or culture. We should all apply common sense and be human first. If not that our criminal justice system is not 100% reliable, most of all these perpetrators would have been behind bars. Nevertheless, report all cases to the relevant authorities and hope and pray for justice.
