After you get married, you should be filing for an Immigrant Via, not NIV because then it becomes harder to overcome the presumption of immigration intent. best file the iV, then you can apply for either a K visa or a normal NIV doctor108: Now they gave me a paper that says you can apply again when your circumstances have changed! Let me highlight things that will change by then! 1. Now single, then I will be married to a Citizen 2. Now jobless, I will be about 5 months into a job half way into my internship which I need to complete to get my full license (professional tie) 3. Now no money to sponsor my trip, then I ll be on almost 190k salary monthly (federal medical center) then I have a job that can make me come back (economic tie) 4. Then I can say I have a son to come back to (family tie) 5. I will be able to get a letter from my employer that I have been given a 2 week leave (professional tie) If after all that they still refuse me, life will still go on! Am tough and prepared for that! Med school prepared me!
House please point to where I made a mistake and advice on my future plans. Also advice me whether by that September we should book my flight and book and pay for where we will stay for the honeymoon. We are looking at Hawaii, etc.
I will update with the transcript of the other interviews! Thanks |

LadyGuinivere: Brother. For your own good, invest some time reading the US embassy website and this thread. How do we say it? 'Chuwa ewu ojii na ututu' . Your ist question is so elementary it shows you have put in little effort. 1. Every human being needs an an individual int. Passport , whether 1 hour old or a hundred years. 2. You can do whatever your family wants. However, the tricky part is convincing the vo about your real relationship with the child. Same surname is usually the easiest way to start proving paternity/maternity of a child. When the names are different, the burden becomes higher. If you can verily prove that the child belongs to you, cool. Remember, the burden is on you and the vo may not ask. But these are the little things that the vo will look at in one minute and make up his mind. A child not having the same surname as its parents? Thats a new one. . . |

Pidgin2: Lol, if it is such a liability for you, you should have overlooked the stress in getting a visa. Afterall, it's not like you will be needing to travel down here more than once a year so why opt for the liability instead of taking the stress? Why not when it saves the stress. Trust me, if you've ever tried to get a Nigeria visa, you're better off not trying for an encore. The passport lasts 5 years. And we only produce it when flying into Nigeria. After that, it's back to bottom box |

When I'm married and have kids I will make sure they avoid that passport, it's a liability Serious liability. The only reason my kids have Nigerian passports is so we don't have to apply for visas when they travel to Nigeria. And this was only after we went through seven degrees of hell trying to get a Nigeria visa. And na we go complain pass about other countries' visa processes |

KaptainAfrika: As in, its sad. Other countries, its like a formality to get a US Visa. They even have something called ESTA, you just pay a fee and fill in the form and just submit it online (I don't think you have to attend an interview) and board a plane and arrive at your POE in the US, a short interview with the CBP and that's all. ESTA is for visa waiver countries. And even then, it's no guarantee. I know a friend who has a U.K. Passport but his ESTA was denied |

LadyGuinivere: Visas are stamped on passports with at least 6 months validity. Do the math. In my opinion , waiting for a month will not make any difference.Between the time you l pay to the interview date, will 1 month not have elapsed? That means carrying two passports up andan to travel. But its your choice. Considering how fast interview dates disappear, my advice would be to apply with the old passport, then renew before the interview. When you get there, submit both and explain to the VO. If you get approved for the visa, it would most likely be stamped on the new one. If it's not, you can simply travel with both. No biggie. I used to travel with all four of my passport booklets until I got number 5. Now, I simply travel with the last two, which still had some valid visas |

seyewest: @SexySan The first question I will like to ask you is that did you applied for B1 or Medical visa? if it was B1 then go ahead with your training and maybe get in touch with a doctor and get the necessary info you will need concerning birthing in U.S. Return to Nigeria and write the embassy about your intention to birth and ask for what to do. You will have to leave your husband out of this for now maybe he can apply when you renew your passport to his name and he should come clean about his previous ''ish'' also you can travel with your mom if your serious about birthing in the U.S God bless. I agree with this @SexySan. Up to a point. Once you've informed the embassy about your birthing, your husband should reapply, stating his previous misrepresentation and also explaining that he wants to be with you while you folks are having your first baby. |

LadyGuinivere: 1. The embassy recognises that families Often have different surnames. They do not require you to change your name. You may go with supporting documents cos I dunno if they look at those in SA. In Nigeria, they don't. To date, my passport is still in my maiden name and LordG and I aPplied at different times and got our visas. However, in circumstances like yours, its more common to see the kids bearing the father's surname and not the mother's on their birth and travel documents. But if your story is legit, then you can be able to prove it. 2. I do not quite understand the question. Do you all intend to travel? Then yes, apply as a family if your ties are solid (work, salary, travel history etc). If you feel it isn't quite fantastic, then maybe you guys should have one parent stay back as a tie I see you pm'd me. Sorry ma. I don't do pms for visa issues. I'm here to answer any question I can Lord Guinivere? Make dem catch you! |

ekpotek: Given your intentions. The Mexican visa will be much easier to get than the US visa. Meet her in Mexico get married, get a stay in Mexico, while she file for you to join her in the US. Give or take 5-6 years you will land in the US pronto!! Lol. Once they're married and she files for him, the entire process can be completed within a year. As long as they pay all the fees on time and there are no issues with their paperwork. He doesn't even need to stay in Mexico, can come back to Naija and do everything from here. My only concern is that this has all the trappings of an 'arrangee' marriage. A desperate one at that |

Ogbeche77: Why did you open a bank account in the US? You definitely know this is illegal as you're not a resident of the country neither do you have business dealings there.. Best of luck to you when you go for your visa renewal and also at the port of entry next time you visit..you lots never learn I'm not sure about it being illegal. I opened an account years ago while I was on a visiting visa. And I renewed my visa multiple times after that (at least two of those renewals were prior to the introduction of the Dropbox service). At no time was I asked about it. Infact, it helped on one occasion when the CBP officer at PoE asked if I was carrying any cash. I said no, I have plastic. He asked to see, and I brought out my bank card and I was waved through |

True. I usually used to travel with no cash just my Nigeria debit cards. And when they asked, I told them I have plastic. But now that our FG have restricted the use of cards abroad, best go with at least one thousand USD maddock: Guy for your own good, don't raise a bit just get 1000usd like someone told you. If you go with 100usd and you don't ave a debit, credit card with money in it, you would definitely be turn back. The only reason you would be allowed in with 100usd is if you are Dangote, have traveled like 50times this year alone or carry a US passport. |

Better to pay well before you travel. The physical green card takes long enough to get here. The earlier you pay the quicker your card can be processed. Nothing will start at USCIS until you pay the fee. And arrive in the US. So don't wait |

YerYer: Hi my fiancee who's in Nigeria has been asked to provide a police certificate which should be brought in on the day of the interview. Please what are the steps involved in getting a police certificate in Lagos and how long does it take? Also, she's supposed to have a medical exam done at one of the clinics recommended by the U.S embassy; I called the listed phone numbers to the clinic and no one picked, I just want to know how easy it is to get an appointment or do you just show up to the clinic and have the medical examination done there and then? Can you also, shed some light on some of the common questions asked during the interview for K1 visa. Thanks 1. You can obtain Police Certificate at Alagbon Close in Ikoyi. Once you get there, just ask any of the officers, they'll direct you to the proper officer. It takes a few hours. 2. You're probably calling the hospitals at the wrong times or when the lines are busy. If you can't get them on the phone, tell the person to just go there. They accept walk-ins too. Budget like half a day. Pick up of final results takes about a week |

I've noticed that we have a non-immigrant visa thread here (started by Lady G) but none specific for Immigrant visa questions (apart from the one by the VO) Looking through, I've seen threads for DV Visa but they are specific to the visa lottery, which Nigeria is no longer eligible for. There are some questions that are better answered by experience so I think this is necessary. If a moderator thinks differently, no wahala. In the meantime, I'll pull up a couple of questions and try to answer them as best as I can |

SelectedWill: I heard someone said if you requested for 2 weeks Visa that the V.O can stamp 6 months for you,how true is this? Visa reciprocity means that even if you're applying to go for one day, you'll get a two-year visa. It's when you arrive at the POE that the CBP officer will determine how long you stay for that particular visit. Usually, they give you enough latitude |

Me: No VO: **Pauses ** and said , so u mean as a blogger you have not traveled out of nigeria before Me: ( fumbled ) bla bla bla bla bla excuses
VO: I'm sorry I won't be able to approve your application at this moment, please you can reapply later ... Me: ***Smiled and received the denial blue paper*** Thank you very much.
So, from my own observation , apart from my travel history and go to go ...
My birthday is coming up in november and i have been to south africa and dubai after the denail....
I plan on reapplying by november... What are my chances ?? There is something about this question or similar (when can I reapply?) anytime I see it, that makes me think 'desperation'. Travel to the USA is not the be all and end all. There are other places to visit, with great sights and which require that you simply provide documentation (ticket, hotel accommodation, etc). If and when there is a significant change in circumstances, or something really important you need to do in the US, reapply and explain those circumstances clearly and confidently to the VO. It could be after a year, it could even be after one day! And for the record, weddings are important events for seeking visas. You just have to convince the VO that you have strong enough ties to bring you him. I was at a wedding recently in the US where the groom's family were denied visas. The wedding went on, but it wasn't quite the same. |

Odarion: Hi 9jaStar, that may be because Nigeria does not qualify for Qatari Visa on Arrival except through Qatar Airways, and Qatar Airways will only provide you a guaranteed visa for free if you booked a non-promotional ticket and requested STPC service at least 72 hours before your departure date (including other STPC requirements mentioned in the post). There could have been other extenuating factors which we may not know as they reserve the right to withhold STPC service at their discretion. We are really sorry for the experience, some other airlines like Emirates, Turkish, Etihad and Ethiopian Airlines also offer STPC service based on their own unique requirements. Of course, if you had booked through odarion.com we would have tried our best to sort all this out for you to have a much better layover experience 1. I booked direct through QA 2. My ticket was not promotional 3. I specifically requested the STPC service when I booked, a full two weeks before travel and received email confirmation/voucher 4. I appreciate your wanting to help and may consider your services in future. But I'm a frequent traveler with both Skymiles and Star Alliance cards, so I know my way around some. I just wanted to try out QA and they failed the test, unfortunately. Won't be flying them again anytime soon 5. What I did enjoy though, was the cabin service. The attendants were nice, polite, full of humor and very very friendly. If I ever fly QA again, it will be down to their cabin crew |

Flew Qatar last month, with an 8-hour stopover. Was told there'd be accommodation at one of those hotels. Got there only to be told immigration denied me a visa even though I had an Immigrant Visa to my final destination. QA staff now told me they had 'sleeping rooms' at the airport. Those so-called sleeping rooms were just walled off spaces with airport-style sleeping seats. I told them I wasn't sleeping there and made a big stink about it. Eventually, they got me to go to the Oryx lounge where I showered and barely managed to get a couple of hours sleep |
