Ecowas has become a joke. See how they are talking down on ecowas.
I think Tinubu overestimated the importance or influence of ecowas. We once had this debate during my MBA classes whether ecowas was fulfilling its objectives or it has failed. We on the side of its failure found out that it has not met ANY of its stated objectives since 1975. Another funny thing is most ecowas countries were under military rule in 1975 when ecowas was founded. Yet its same ecowas Tinubu wants to use to bully Niger. It's a joke really

Since this brouhaha and brinkmanship started in Niger, I have not read or heard any statement from London attributed to No 10 or Whitehall.

Why are they indifferent?
Are they angry bc of Tinubu constant visit to France instead of UK?

"In October 1983, Major Daniel Idowu Bamidele heard of coup rumours against President Shehu Shagari and promptly reported to his General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (who, unknown to Bamidele at that time, was in the thick of the plot).
A week later, Bamidele found himself on a plane to Lagos, detained by the Directorate of Military Intelligence at Tego Barracks and was accused of plotting a coup against Shagari.
Fake witnesses were paraded and a mock interrogation contrived, while reports were being made to the Nigerian Security Organisation (then under Umaru Shinkafi) to mislead the Shagari regime.
Meanwhile, the real plot continued underground with the full involvement of the same Military Intelligence group that was interrogating him. Finally, on November 25, 1983, with no credible witness to nail him, and no legal basis to charge him for a one-man conspiracy, Bamidele was released. He returned to Jos, befuddled about what had actually transpired, until on January 1, 1984, his own GOC, Buhari, to whom he had reported the plot, emerged as the new Head of State!

Learning from his ordeal in 1983, Bamidele had kept quiet about any coups. However, in 1985, the Major was arrested (for failing to report the alleged Vatsa coup conspiracy), tried by a special military tribunal, and executed by firing squad on March 5, 1986, along with others such as Major-General Mamman Vatsa.

Bamidele's words to the tribunal were:
"I heard of the 1983 coup planning, told my GOC General Buhari who detained me for two weeks in Lagos. Instead of a pat on the back, I received a stab. How then do you expect me to report this one? This is not self-adulation but a sincere summary of the qualities inherent in me. It is an irony of fate that the president of the tribunal who, in 1964, felt that I was good enough to take training in the UK is now saddled with the duty of showing me the exit from the force and the world." -

That is Nigeria for you. A man worth celebrating is the one they sent to early grave. Same still happens till this day.

There is a combined Nigeria/Morocco pipeline deal that is set to end in Spain. The same pipeline from Nigeria will divert in north Africa towards Spain and another line towards the other side of Europe.

But the line from Nigeria must pass through Niger.

And if a Kremlin-backed military regime is in power in Niamey, Nigeria can kiss goodbye to the project.

And we've already paid billions of dollars for it!

The image you posted is different from WAPCo gas pipeline to Morocco. Your picture represents Trans Sahara pipeline to Algeria. They are two different projects.

Trans Sahara have been stalled for many years because of France Algeria rusty relationships.

Better do your research well before coming with insult as a typical Nigerian.

Don't you know those African countries don't like it when Nigeria claim giant of Africa, expecially Ghana. So they will like anything that will bring Nigeria to her knees the more.

When the conflict start, they may not even bring upto 100 soldiers but they are urging Nigeria/Ecowas on.

This same scenario will play out in Niger if at all this war will start. It is very unlikely that the northern soldiers which are probably from Niger will be killing their kits and kin in Niger. They will sabotage the Nigerian military. We need to be careful.
