Thanks a bunch.

There's no need for it. You don't even need to travel with so much money, maybe just little for cab fare to your destination from the airport and other little expenses.
I guess you'll be going with your mastercard, and that should do.

Hello.

Please guys I want to know if there is still a need for BTA (Basic Travel Allowance) when traveling as a student. I'll be leaving for Dalhousie and I want to know it its still required and how much it is especially if traveling for the first time. Is it also okay to travel with Canadian dollars or necessarily US dollars please?

I'll appreciate your reaponses.

i know most people fly to toronto, and then book a connecting flight to their final destination. You can use wakanow/travelStart to get flights to toronto. Wakanow Ive never used, but travelstart are great. you can also book directly on the airline's website. Then use Kayak to search for a connecting flight.

most people use Kijiji for student accommodation, but i'll advice you to search for budget hotels close to your uni book for a week, And Use that time to search for a place.

Not a pro, but that's what i'd do.

Hello guys.

I finally got my TRV last week. Thanks for all the info here. For the update:

School- Uni of Dalhousie
Graduate study with research
Visa application- online
Applied- January 12
Biometric- January 14
Medical call- Feb 2
Medicals done- Feb5
Passport req- Feb 17
Issued- Feb 20
Collected- Feb27

However, I still need a little more help from guys. I discovered there are no direct flights to Halifax in Nova Scotia. Has anyone booked a flight to that route before and how was it done please? Are there websites that could also be of help in this regard please.

I also need some help to go about getting an off campus accommodation or a temporary housing for a week or thereabout.

Your prompt response will be of great help.

Thanks guys

Thanks for the info. That was much relief. I'll just check at the VAC today and confirm that. Cheers bro

Bobola86:
You can't Renew your passport until the validity is 6 months or less. So I guess your visa validity will be December 2016. Then you can apply for visa renewal after your passport is renewed. If you are going in for fall 2015, I will advice u renew your passport around June before leaving or in Ottawa if you are leaving earlier. I think visa validity won't affect your study permit validity. You just need to renew the visa in case you want to travel out of Canada after December.based on my experience tho. I stand to be corrected.
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 7 by a4larin: 9:32am On Feb 18, 2015
Hello guys.

I got a call for the passport request yesterday. There was one of the criteria as "Your passport must be valid for the duration of your expected length of stay in Canada."

My passport expires December 2016 while the program ends May 2017. Has anyone been in this before who can advise if i need to renew it before giving them the passport or not. If yes, I will need info on how to process the renewal of the passport please. Your quick response will be appreciated. @valeriann @Bobola86

Thanks
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 7 by a4larin: 9:23am On Feb 18, 2015

Thanks

Hi mrnilobrawn:
Sorry to interject here. I had a passport which expired in January 2015 and have been renewed the same month. I planned to apply for TRV this march. Does this mean i cant use it now/i'll have to wait till June or something? If so, what other options do i have? Please clarify....thanks

Hello Bobola86

I observed you got the call for your medicals about the same time I got mine. Please have you done the medical test? Has it also reflected on your CIC account and has there been request for your passport yet? I did my test on 05/02 and found out the the medical test shows "passed" but there has not been any update on my account since then, neither request for my passport. Moreso the deadline to upload my medicals is 17/02 which is tomorrow. Do you feel everything is okay please?

Good day guys.

I think I'm a bit confused about my application. Having done my medical tests on the 5th of February, I observed the status was updated on 9th of February. The review of the medical result show "passed".

However, my account shows that I have to update my medical status online. The hospital gave me no documents to upload after the test and my status shows "We need an additional document from the applicant". It also sows that "Proof of medical result (required)".

Please has anyone done medicals recently with any info on what I'm supposed to do after taking the medical test? Your urgent info is much need as tomorrow is the deadline for me to update my profile.

Thanks

If its graduate studies at 22, you may not have problems especially if you just finished NYSC less than a year ago. I didn't include any working status in my application eventhough I am well over 22 but completes NYSC less than a year. My friend also did the same and got his visa. So, everywhere you have "present job" in the forms, you may just write N/A. I personally like not to lie, but would write my real status in an intelligent way.

It wont be frowned at moreso considering your age and if your NYSC is recent. That worked for me and might also work for you.

He is going for graduate studies.
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 7 by a4larin: 9:44pm On Feb 13, 2015
If you are 22, can I ask what you are applying for: Graduate or undergraduate studies please? I may be able to give an advise if clarified.

standupguy:
From my little experience, here is my 2 cent.
Depending on your age, either you say you work for your dad in your SOP, without putting employment letter or you tell him to start paying you into your account so you can include your own statement and employment letter when the time comes.
Once you mention anything in your application, you must provide proof to back it up.

I work in my sisters company, i mention in my first application, that I worked with my sister's company I was refused because of insufficient funds well I didn't provide all my sponsors bank statement, second application I now included an employment letter from the company, now they want to see my assests and financial.

Hello,

Please I just want to confirm from anyone who got a call for medicals last week and have it.Has it been updated on your mycic page? Did mine 05/02 and yet to see it updated. The medical status shows "passed" though and "We need additional document from applicant". Please, has yours been updated and request for passport yet?

I also got an email from them today saying "your status has not been updated yet since your last login to mycic. Thank you for your patience". Please i just want to be sure I'm still on track.

Thanks.

One more thing pls. My passport is expiring in December 2016 which is way before the end of my program. Do you think I should get a renewal before applying? and do they renew before the final expiration date please?
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 6 by a4larin: 10:37pm On Nov 30, 2014
@ olamonsor2 Thanks for your advise. Just to be double sure, considering what mrnilobrawn also suggested via the website. The CIC website says one should apply immediately after receiving the admission letter.

olamonsor2 Please do you have reasons for that date in particular?
