EducationNo Partial Agreement Was Reached, FG Lied - ASUU Chairman by AAUJotham(op): 8:47am On Dec 24, 2018
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says it may not honour further calls by the federal government for a meeting on the way forward over the current strike by its members.

The union’s National President, Biodun Ogunyemi, said this on the sideline of a news conference on the update of the union’s struggle to salvage the country’s public universities from deterioration on Sunday in Lagos.J

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the union had on November 4 embarked on what it described as a ‘total, comprehensive and indefinite strike’.

Members of the union are protesting the non-implementation of agreements entered into with the federal government in 2009 and 2017, as well as funding and improved welfare for members, among other issues.

According to Mr Ogunyemi, to ensure that the agreements were implemented, the union had held a series of consultative meetings with the government and written series of letters with little or nothing to the effect.

He noted that it was against this backdrop that union resumed strike on November 4.

“Since the commencement of this strike, we have had six meetings with agents of the federal government, with no clear commitment from government to resolving the issues we presented.

“Government appears to have adopted ‘keep them talking’ strategy while deceiving the public that progress was being made and that partial agreements had been reached between union and government.

“We want to say that government has continually and falsely raised the hopes of the Nigerian public on the state of duscussion with our union and we may not be interested in holding further dialogue with them until we see signs of commitment and sincerity in addressing the issues before them.

“Our expectation from a very responsive and sincere position is that by now, all outstanding issues would have been resolved to the satisfaction of both parties.

“Unfortunately, government is yet to show commitment and sincerity in addressing these problems,” he said.
.
According to the don, on the renegotiation of Federal Government/ASUU agreement, there are still unresolved issues about the leadership of the government team.
.
“We have strong reasons to believe that the continuation of Dr Wale Babalakin as the head of the renegotiation with ASUU will not yield good fruit,” he said.

Mr Ogunyemi said his union had taken up its current project as a lifetime, adding that this was why dating back to the 1980s, the union had remained consistent on what was of concern to it.

“If we miss education, we miss development as we will end up being enslaved the second time.

“What is happening in this country now is that people are privatising everything, including education and before we know it, what happened to our primary and secondary education will happen.

“And these are some of the things we are supposed to be tracking and engage in this society if we want to make the change that we need.

“Our conviction is the reason behind the prolonged strike and our members have the conviction that until we get education right, Nigeria will never get it right.

“Insurgency will increase, banditry, poverty, kidnapping, misery and other societal ills will continue.

“Let me also state clearly too that our strike has nothing to do with politics or election, as is being speculated in some sectors of the society.

“We have never thought of aborting any election. We do not want to create problem for this country but let the government do the right thing,” he said.

Mr Ogunyemi said that the situation might have to rise to the point where Nigerians would have to tell the government what to do with the country’s education system.

He said the union appreciated the understanding of the Nigerian students, their parents, among whom were many ASUU members and other people of goodwill since the resumption of the avoidable strike.

“ASUU does not take your sacrifice for granted. With your continued support and sacrifice, we can make the Nigerian ruling class come to accept the centrality of university education in improving the human condition.

“Qualitative and public-funded education is not an option; it is inevitable if Nigeria ever wishes to banish poverty, ignorance, squalor, insecurity, disease and corruption.

EducationASUU Makes Fresh Revelations Against FG, Gives Reasons Strike Won’t Be Suspended by AAUJotham(op): 8:37am On Dec 24, 2018
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has declared that it had no plans to suspend its ongoing strike.

The union has been on strike for eight weeks now.

ASUU said the federal government had not shown any commitment to addressing its demands.

Speaking with reporters at ASUU, University of Lagos secretariat, the National President of ASUU, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi pointed out that since the start of the strike on November 4, the union met six times with government agents and there was no clear commitment from government to resolve the issues in contention.

Accompanied by the ASUU Lagos zone Coordinator, Prof Olusiji Sowande, and other branch chairmen, Prof Ogunyemi asked the President Muhammadu Buhari government to replace the Chairman of the Renegotiation Committee on the FG/ASUU 2009 agreement, Dr. Wale Babalakin, based on its experience during over one year of negotiation.

Ogunyemi said the government has adopted the strategy of deceiving the public that progress was being made thus a partial agreement had been reached between the government and the union.

He said, “Our expectation from a very responsive and sincere government is that by now, all outstanding issues would have been resolved to the satisfaction of both parties. Unfortunately, government is yet to show sincerity in addressing the problem.

“As at today, there are no concrete commitments on the part of government to warrant considering the suspension of this strike action, which we did all that was possible to avoid.

“Government should demonstrate serious commitment to implementing the spirit and letters of the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement, as well as the resulting 2013 MoU, for the rapid transformation of Nigeria’s public universities for improved efficiency, infrastructural development and global competitiveness.”

He further stated the purported release of N20billion due for release in September/October 2017, which was widely publicised by government, had not been confirmed to and had not been received in any public universities.

He said the government had also not made any commitment to payment of the outstanding five tranches of the balance of N1.1trillion Needs Assessment intervention fund for revitalisation of public universities.

The ASUU President regretted that government declared that steps had been taken to address the injustice, payment of EAA to its loyal members in University of Ilorin while that was yet to be effected, stressing that government appeared to be paying lip service to the issue.

The ASUU boss revealed that “arrears of shortfalls in salaries had not been addressed and there was no agreed date for the payment of the verified claims to the affected universities.

“We have strong reasons to believe that the continuation of Dr. Babalakin as the head of the renegotiation with ASUU would not yield good fruit.

“He is ideologically fixated on tuition fees and does not agree that education is a public good. ASUU strongly objects to this.

“Our experience with Dr. Babalakin for over 14 months tells us that Dr. Babalakin cannot relate objectively to any of the issues in our demands at the negotiation table.

“We, therefore, once more call on government to replace Dr. Babalakin as the chairman of the renegotiation committee of the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement,” Ogunyemi stated.

He used the opportunity to debunk insinuations that ASUU strike was meant to scuttle the 2019 general elections, adding that “our strike has nothing to do with election. We are not planning to abort any election.”

On claims by some government officials that the ongoing strike had political colouration, the ASUU president said the allegation was laughable and that the union was not perturbed by the insinuations, saying that it was when government did not have solutions to its demands that it came up with the claim of sponsorship.

“In 2013, ASUU was accused by the then government; so we are not surprise or moved by the allegation,” he said.

PoliticsAbuja Court Sets Deji Adeyanju Free But Kano Court Sends Him To Prison Till Febr by AAUJotham(op): 1:34pm On Dec 23, 2018
Delivering judgment in Abuja on Friday, the presiding judge, Justice Sandhi, ruled that the allegations brought against him do not warrant his being kept in detention, and therefore ordered his immediate and unconditional release by the Police. But in a separate ruling, the court sitting in Kano ordered that Adeyanju should be remanded in Police custody.

A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja has ordered the immediate release of Deji Adeyanju, Convener of Concerned Nigerians.

Adeyanju was taken to Kano a few days ago to stand trial for an old case, for which he had been discharged and acquitted by a court in Kano years ago.

He had been arraigned before a Kano Magistrate Court earlier during the week, and remanded in custody. The court had adjourned till Friday, December 21, 2018, for hearing on his bail application.

However, counsel to Adeyanju, Mike Ozhekome (SAN), had filed a suit in an Abuja court, seeking the enforcement of Adeyanju's fundamental human rights.

Delivering judgment in Abuja on Friday, the presiding judge, Justice Sandhi, ruled that the allegations brought against him do not warrant his being kept in detention, and therefore ordered his immediate and unconditional release by the Police.

The matter was adjourned till January 7, 2019 for hearing.

But in a separate ruling, the court sitting in Kano ordered that Adeyanju should be remanded in Police custody.

Ruling on the matter at the Chief Magistrate Court in Kano, Hassan Fagge said he lacked the power to take hearing on the case, and issued an order for Adeyanju's remandment in custody till February 6, 2019 when the matter could be heard at a higher court

RomanceBitter Truth That All Guys Must Know About Ladies by AAUJotham(op): 12:59pm On Dec 23, 2018
Something has really been bothering me for a while now.

Guys, how do some of you even cope with dating a broke girl?

I mean:

A girl who doesn't have transport fare to see someone who she claims she loves every damn time.

A lady who can't get you a birthday or a Valentine's day gift, but expects you to bring down the world for her during hers.

Someone who can't comfortably call you on phone for 5mins. Always flashing and complaining she doesn't have airtime.

I mean how do you guys cope dating a lady who thinks relationship is an occupation; where she is supposed to be paid and taken care of?
Even if it's an occupation, what services is she actually offering to be privileged to receive such benefits?
Or is she a ghost worker?

(NB: sex is not a benefit ONLY to men)

How do some guys manage to date such ladies?
No wonder suicide and depression victims are mostly men.

See guy, don't ever date a broke girl no matter how gorgeous you think she is. They are serious liabilities.

Rather date a lady who adds something beneficial to your life. Things like emotional intelligence; financial intelligence; spiritual intelligence and other intelligence.

Date someone who's capable of calming the storm within your soul (an average man has enough storms); and not someone who adds stress to your life.

And most guys are still dating these broke ladies just because they think they're so gorgeous or hot, and they're so lucky to be dating them, and would probably not find another woman as gorgeous and flawless like their broke girlfriends.

Forget that yehn yehn talk, don't tolerate any woman's brokenness or stupidity just because of her physical beauty.
They're actually a lot of extremely gorgeous and beautiful ladies with common sense.

So don't ever think of settling for less brother.

One thing I've realized about all these broke girls is not that they don't actually have money...
Most of them do; but it's just that they're mentally broke, which is way worse than not having money.

Ladies please don't be mentally broke.
Guys please don't date mentally broke girls.

Yes, I've broken another table today!

Christianity EtcKumuyi Speaks On His Death Vows Not Not Hand Over To Rascals by AAUJotham(op): 12:18pm On Dec 23, 2018
ABUJA-THE General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, Saturday, maintained that the church will not be handed over to ‘rascals’ who are not portraying the image of Christ in their character.

Kumuyi made the declaration via a satellite broadcast from headquarters of the church in Lagos, while teaching on the topic, ‘Fear Not: The Promise Is Still Good’ during the Faith Clinic session at the ongoing Deeper Life National December Retreat, holding at the Deeper Life Conference Centre (DLCC), which started on Friday, December 21 and ends December 25.
He said the church will not condone any form of rascality and rebellion because the word of God never encourages that and is a strange behaviour capable of taking one to hell fire.

He said: “We are not going to hand the church over to rascals, over to rebellious people that want to scatter everything that is good that the Lord is doing. If you have a neighbour or if you have a friend who is a rascal who just want to prove that he is not here to hear the Word of God or to obey the Word of God. He wants to be rascally in the house of God, talk to them.

“And if you are like that, if you don’t want salvation, you don’t want to go to heaven, we can release you to go back home. And those who want to serve the Lord, we are going to remain here.”

Meanwhile, the clergy charged participants on the need to be obedient to leadership of the church, stressing that it is the only way to heaven.

“We are going to have a church that is obedient to leadership and every member of the church , every worker of the church will be obedient. Why? Because that is the only way to heaven. And we will take you to heaven. Thank God you will be there.

“All through this retreat, I want to let you know, if I preach the Word of God and other ministers preach the Word of God and we don’t obey, I will come back exactly to that same Word of God and keep on saying the same thing, emphasizing the same thing until you understand holiness, righteousness and obedience is the number one requirement in the house of God”, he said
