Ajuran: Well it looks like Henna is new as you don't really see it. But in Somali culture its everywhere especially during weddings. But in Ethiopia they don't have Henna, in Kenya the bantus don't have it. Weird how somethings skip certain people. But Khat is used in Somalia, Kenya (somalis use it in kenya), and Southern Arabia. The Sarong is used in Somalia, India, Indonesia. The head jewelry for weddings is used in Eritrea, Somalia, Djibouti, India.

so a lot of things get transmitted during trade.

Silly Somali Henna is not only a Somali thing, we have been doing this in Sudan since time immemorial.

Hmm I see.

Because if this account is taken as fact, then your friend is suggesting that all our African Tribes were born recently.

And that too after ages passed of the Indu Valley CIvilization, the Mesopotamian Civilization, the NAtive American tribes , The Chinese and Eastern Nations and Ethnic Groups, etc.

so basically he will be suggesting that Arabs, Indo-Aryans, Chinese etc., are older ethnic groups then IGbo, Yoruba, CHadic-SAhelians, etc.

haha Im Tribal. cool

Personally, i don't know he was suggesting that as far as the ages of West African groups, he just said he believes his people came from here for some reason, something to do with languages and how they are connected for some reason, personally i really did not pay attention because i was enjoying the reggae band. LOL

continue on with the thread, i don't want to further derail it.

The Roman Empire flourished between roughly 100 BC and 476 AD. I hope u are not suggesting there was nobody (besides the Nok people) in West Africa between 100 BC and 476 AD.

How old is the Kingdom of Meroe, do u know? I dont think there was a kingdom centred at Meroe before 1500 BC; yet we had a West African civilization at Tichitt-Walata by 2000 BC. How do u fit that into ur "West Africans came from ancient kingdom of Meroe" hypothesis?

Actually very old, but Meroe was more or less a continuation Kerma, Napatan period, and New Kingdom period along the nile valley region and to a certain extent the Old Kingdom, hence it is very old, and the monuments speaks for itself as regards to dates.

reread what i written, never stated you came from "meroe", but ask the question whether or not some west Africans came from let say that region. I heard people tell me in real life while in Sudan, and read similar comments within this forum that state this. I was basically curious about it. Trust me, i am more than happy you guys are west African, and should be proud of that

we didnt come from MEroe. You Egyptian-obsessed fellows need to stop derailing every thread.

Even the Egyptians are not as obsessed to claim descent from Cairo or Meroe.

Actually, i heard it from a West African guy from Senegal i believe when i was in Sudan last year for holiday. Cannot say i believe him but that what he thinks and he is entitled to his opinion.

Pagan you are so tribal it is quite humorous.LoL

Honestly I would have preferred if West Africa was colonized by Rome instead of Britain and France.

The Romans would never have extorted and demonized Africa as British and French

At the same time you need to ask yourself, Was West Africa populated back then? and by whom besides the Nok people which has a precarious origin. Also let not believe that the population is somehow static with the same ethnicity of people. I always wanted to ask this question, Do you believe that West Africans came from the ancient Kingdom of Meroe? I know most of you don't know about that. LOL

Roman records stated to have conquered that much because they didn't move as far as Central Africa and America but everywhere they knew of fell as their colony.

Besides most of the central and western African nations seem to have origin from Northern Africa.

Good thing you are here, I am really learning from you

Actually the Romans tried, but the queen of Meroe stop them from going further into that particular region in Africa.

George Reisner and his wife exploration of the Nuri pyramids ruins in Northern Sudan. Warning what he mentioned here will offend some, so i assume he is basically a product of his time. His exposition to this region was between 1916-1918

oh ok you look like one of those Nile Egyptians. not much difference true.

But Copts are generally lighter and have sharper features and nasal structure.

good.

As far as facial features goes, that definitely vary. i have seen many with sharp features, and many with not so sharp, and some with wide features. Most have straight to wavy hair, but you encounter some with coarse hair as well. Truth to be told, i have seen many Non Copt Egyptians regardless of skin hue, with coarse hair as well. Funny,I have seen many ethnic nubians similar to the video i posted, display varies facial features and hair textures as well.

oh wait yes! Now I remember. I actually personally knew a Sudanese Copt. (I have many EGyptian Coptic friends). wait you guyz dont look Nubian. because the person I knew looked Egyptian.

For anthropological purposes, are you dark-skinned? do you look Egyptian Coptic or Nubian ?

Now that is a interesting question, how i look like? Well, contrary to popular belief, nubians don't really have a define look, and at the same token copts don't have a define look, because it ranges. Most Copts are definitely fair in complexion, but some are dark as well, and the same applies to Nubians (as far as variations). Also, not all Northern Sudanese are Nubian background.

to answer your question here is how i basically look.

you are copt! hmmm. .but you are not Nubian yes? you are similar to EGyptian Copt?

I guess we are similar in Sudan, however Copts have been living in Sudan for generations. You must remember Egypt and Northern Sudan was once one country until the 1950's therefore it makes since you have Copts in both regions. Also, take to considerations a very very few Northern Sudanese converted or some may say reconverted in the Orthodox Christian faith especially during the colonial period, because prior to Islam Christianity was once the dominant faith. Do i have Nubian ancestry? I don't know. I will say this, my family is definitely combination of Northern Sudan and Egypt or mixture of both. However my family is from Khartoum, but i have relatives in places such as Dongola.

Here are a link of Copts in Sudan.

I see. Nubians tend to live more in the Aswan region.

Nubian actually live in many areas across Egypt, they are not confined in one area. You have many that migrated to places such as Alexander and Cairo, for economic reasons.

Awesome post man. In the media they said the war between the North and South was 'Arab' vs 'Black'. You know that's not the case. And I also heard Arabs married their way into Sudan after they couldn't beat the Sudanese in a war. Hmmm...This is interesting. Maybe the Northerners just identify as Arab since Arab culture is the dominate culture in the country.

It really depends on the person, in other words, not every Norther consider themselves arab, at the same token being Arab has a different meaning in Sudan. For example a northern Sudanese arab will not consider himself or herself a Iraqi, or Levantine from Lebanon or Syria, due to the fact they know they are racially different from those groups. Therefore being Arab is the Sudan is somewhat different, sometimes it is blood lines, religion, or what is perceive as Arab culture, and in many cases it is not. In my case i don't consider myself Arab due to my parents religion, which is Copt.
