Nairaland General › Four Nigerian Men Jailed In The UK For Conning 12 Women by abbeybanks(op): 7:23pm On Oct 17, 2014 |
Four men have been jailed for conning 12 women out of nearly £250,000 as part of an "elaborate" dating website scam. Women using match.com were told the fictional James Richards needed money to release a £100m inheritance. One victim handed over £174,000 to the "attractive middle-aged man". Emmanuel Oko was given concurrent sentences of eight and four years. Peter Monty Emu was jailed for three and a half years, Adewunmi Nusi for 18 months and Chukwuka Ugwu for 46 weeks A fake profile of James Richards was posted on match.com, the court heard The trial at Winchester Crown Court heard the scammers created fake profiles, usually with the name James Richards. Posing as "charming" and "attentive", they gained the trust of the women before asking them to hand over large sums of money. Once the relationships developed, the conmen started asking for cash they said was needed to release a £100m inheritance in India. One victim, Deborah Cole, told the court she felt "drawn in". She said: "James was very clever. He never directly asked for the money, but he put you in the position where you wanted to help. You felt drawn in." One woman, Suzanne Hardman, handed over £174,000. A victim became suspicious when she received the same email twice. The court heard she wrote back to the sender, saying: "I wonder how many hearts you have broken Source: http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-29659084 |

Politics › Nigeria Sharia Police Smash 240,000 Bottles Of Beer In Kano State by abbeybanks(op): 12:04pm On Nov 29, 2013 |
Police enforcing Islamic law in Nigeria's city of Kano publicly destroyed some 240,000 bottles of beer on Wednesday, the latest move in a wider crackdown on behaviour deemed "immoral" in the area. The banned booze had been confiscated from trucks coming into the city in recent weeks, said officials from the Hisbah, the patrol tasked with enforcing the strict Islamic law, known as sharia. Kano's Hisbah chief Aminu Daurawa said at the bottle-breaking ceremony he had "the ardent hope this will bring an end to the consumption of such prohibited substances". A large bulldozer smashed the bottles to shouts of "Allahu Ahkbar" (God is Great) from supporters outside the Hisbah headquarters in Kano, the largest city in Nigeria's mainly Muslim north. Kegs containing more than 8,000 litres of a local alcoholic brew called "burukutu" and 320,000 cigarettes were also destroyed. "We hope this measure will help restore the tarnished image of Kano," said Daurawa. Since September, the Hisbah have launched sweeping crackdowns and made hundreds of arrests in Kano following a state-government directive to cleanse the commercial hub of so-called "immoral" practices. The 9,000-strong moral police force works alongside the civilian police but also has other duties, including community development work and dispute resolution. Sharia was reintroduced across northern Nigeria in 2001, but the code has been unevenly applied. Alcohol is typically easy to find in Kano, including at hotels and bars in neighbourhoods like Sabon Gari, inhabited by the city's sizeable Christian minority. But the Hisbah boss vowed that this was set to change. "We hereby send warning to unrepentant offenders that Hisbah personnel will soon embark on an operation into every nook and corner of (Kano) state to put an end to the sale and consumption of alcohol and all other intoxicants," Daurawa said. People accused of engaging in prostitution and homosexual sex have been among those arrested in the latest crackdown, along with alleged drunks and drug addicts. Nigeria is divided between a mostly Christian south and a predominately Muslim north. SOURCE: http://news.yahoo.com/nigeria-sharia-police-smash-240-000-bottles-beer-220634716.html |

leverage12: my advice is that for the first 30 days give the both light and heat. In the day time there might be no need of light because of sun but don't joke with their heat and make make sure you give them light in the night and 24 hours heat in the night and day time. After 30 days you might decide to only feed them day time and you dont need light since the sun will serve as light. Cheers Thanks for the info @ leverage12. I stop the heat on their 3rd week, they are 4 wks old today(8-10-13). the windows are still sealed, so the room is still dark regardless of sunshine and ventilation is only through the door. Thats why im concern about "light hour" per day for the broilers. |

SLIDE waxie: Pls dnt hide this post... Cos na true i wan yan..
Is it that u guys up east are just waking up to this very lucrative-low capital venture?
New garri processing plants are in ifo, itori, eweje, ilewo, and ilara in Ogun state!
U will see everything ranging from. Peeling machines, to washing, grinding, pressing and now the ones in pictures!
Some dnt make it into garri only.. Like d one in ifo dries into chips and pallets, ready to be bagged for importation. Some into flour for farmers who has govt LPO's to sell for flour mills!
So many people have been depending on these for their millions.
i av also finished my research abt this and i am starting my farm next year. My proposal is alwys ready.
The state govt of Ogun state has institutions across the states which large hectares of land to be available for just 2hectares to a farmer!
My point? This is not oil revenue! Not every state looks up to that! Pelletz n chipz form are the highest quota in world market for cassava.... |

Omen100: Jonathan Is Going Down Everyday – Asari Dokubo
APC Fan Club: This idiot talks with two mouths
Leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, NDPVF, Alhaji Mujahideen Asari-Dokubo, yesterday continued his attack on President Goodluck Jonathan, saying it is unlikely he would return in 2015.
The NDPVF leader in an interview with journalists in Lagos, said his kinsman had lost the sympathy and support of well-meaning Nigerians.
The former President of Ijaw Youth Council, however added that it was not too late for Jonathan to reconcile with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He noted that if the president wanted to regain confidence of Nigerians, he should urgently deliver on his electioneering promises.
He also advised the number one citizen to do away with self seeking and selfish aides around him.
Asari-Dokubo further attacked the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, describing the latter’s reaction to his last interview as “arrant nonsense, rubbish and childish.”
“I don’t want to reply Abati, the famous author of crab theory, who was desperate to defend his boss just because he wants to justify his wages. What does Abati know? Am I struggling to be President in 2015?”
“What is the correlation between why is the East/West Road not being constructed and the poor performance of the Presidency, including the inability of President Jonathan to curb corruption in his administration and the crab theory by Abati?”
“Abati is just childish; his arguments were baseless, just struggling and managing to salvage the dwindling fortunes and sagging image of the Presidency.”
On the rift between the President and OBJ, Asari-Dokubo debunked claims of the Presidency which states the contrary: “Everybody knows that there is a quarrel. Has Obasanjo not been criticising Jonathan openly?
“Has Obasanjo not said that he was not prepared to keep quiet if things are wrong? Do you need to be told that there is a rift when Obasanjo, who took his position as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as between life and death suddenly gave up the job just like that?”
“Was it not reported that Obasanjo has threatened that Jonathan would not be president in 2015 and that he (Obasanjo) vowed to continue to criticise him (Jonathan)?”
Asari-Dokubo added that he was ready to assist Jonathan win again 2015. He however stated that the president was not very focused, and that the North could use the advantage of his inadequacies to defeat him.
“I am ready and willing to help him in 2015 but there is something wrong with him (Jonathan), he has been hijacked by some people and he is not doing anything to remove them. Jonathan is not on course at all. Jonathan is destroying his presidency”.
“For instance, he got to power majorly by the support of the social media that is the vehicle in which he was brought to power but as I am talking to you today, he has lost all his Facebook fans. He (Jonathan) is going down every day.”
“How can he (Jonathan) deliver when everybody around him are sabotaging him? The people around Jonathan are vicious but somebody like me will not keep quiet to allow Jonathan to lead us to avoidable bloodshed.”
Asked if he was ready for a truce with the Presidency, Asari-Dokubo stated, “I am not ready to be called by anybody because I went to him (Jonathan) many times to intimate him that his conduct would bring disgrace to us. I told him that my brother, you are not doing well. My conscience is very important to me, I cannot keep quiet at all, it makes me sick.
“But I am and will continue to fight for him (Jonathan), for the Ijaw nation, the South/South and the deprived people, who stood by him (Jonathan). What Jonathan represents is greater than him.
“The Presidency does not need to reach out to me. Jonathan is not representing himself, Presidency is not the personal property of Jonathan; it is the property of those who died throughout the country to make him the president of Nigeria in 2011.”
The former militant leader described the former BoT Chairman of PDP, Chief Tony Anenih as “a liability to the Presidency,” saying it was unfortunate that Jonathan continued to associate with Anenih despite his “credibility baggage.”
“For me as a person, I believe in the sayings that ‘show me your friend, I will tell you who you are. For Goodluck Jonathan to continue to associate with Tony Anennih despite a series of allegations against him is unfortunate.”
“But there is a remedy for him (Jonathan) because he has two years more, ending on May 29, 2015, if he can make amends. Let him genuinely reconcile with Obasanjo, his benefactor, listen to and align with Nigerians, who elected him in 2011.”
“Let him severe and cut off the people around him, who never wished Nigeria and Nigerians well and redeem the battered image of his administration by delivering on his electioneering promises to Nigerians.”
“Jonathan should be prepared to fight injustice and corruption in the remaining two years and remove the deadwoods in his government and move the nation forward.
“All hopes are not lost if he can make amends but his chances of re-election in 2015 is slim and narrow if the present trends of inactivity by his administration continue.”

Politics › Re: Nigerian Legislators Are Highest Paid In The World —the Economist by abbeybanks(m): 12:53pm On Jul 25, 2013 |
delighttt: A report by The Economist magazine has revealed that Nigerian federal legislators with a basic salary of $189,500 per annum (N30.6m) are the highest paid lawmakers in the world. Quoting data from the International Monetary Fund and The Economist magazine of London, the study looked at the lawmakers’ basic salary as a ratio of the Gross Domestic Product per person across countries of the world. According to the report, the basic salary (which excludes allowances) of a Nigerian lawmaker is 116 times the country’s GDP per person of $1,600. The $189,500 earned annually by each Nigerian legislator is estimated to be 52 per cent higher than what Kenya legislators, who are the second highest paid lawmakers, earned. The National Assembly has, however, rejected the report that its members are the highest paid lawmakers in the world. While reacting to the report published in The Economist magazine on Monday, the spokespersons of the two chambers of the National Assembly described it as grossly exaggerated. The Chairman, Senate Committee on Information and Media, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, said the report was misleading and incorrect. He said it was easy for anyone to verify what Nigerian lawmakers earned given that such information could be obtained from the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission. Abaribe said, “My reaction is that the report is incorrect. It is very easy for anybody to know what we earn by going to the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission. “The report is not correct because it did not emanate from the RMAFC, because that is the only body that determines what a lawmaker earns” In the same vein, the spokesman of the House of Representatives, Mr. Zakari Mohammed, dismissed the report as incorrect. He said, “Whatever is being written is mere exaggeration and does not reflect what is accurate. They fail to realise that what we take as salaries are different from what we use in running our offices. “These are two different issues. Most times, people just lump everything together and claim that it is our monthly salary; that is not correct. At the appropriate time, we shall react, because it is not just about the House but the National Assembly. The National Assembly will react at the right time.” The report had suggested that a Nigerian federal lawmaker earned $189,000 or about N30m annually. The magazine also published details of the annual salaries of legislators in other countries, some of which include Ghana, $46,500; Indonesia, $65,800; Thailand, $43,800; India, $11,200; Italy, $182,000; Bangladesh, N4,000; Israel, $114,800; Hong Kong, $130,000; Japan, $149,700; and Singapore, $154,000. – Punch http://thecitizenng.com/headline-2/nigerian-legislators-are-highest-paid-in-the-world-the-economist/ tot they debate on deir salaries demselves? i neva knew dat body is saddled to determine wat i earn |
