A shooter at an outlet mall in Allen, Tex., killed at least eight people and injured seven Saturday, authorities said at a nighttime news conference. An Allen police officer on an unrelated call heard gunshots at the Allen Premium Outlets at 3:36 p.m. and engaged “the suspect and neutralized the threat,” police said Rep. Keith Self (R), who represents the Allen area in Congress, said on CNN that people who were calling for gun control, rather than just thoughts and prayers, “don’t believe in an almighty God … who is absolutely in control of our lives.” “People want to make this political, but prayers are important,” he said Gun control advocates angrily demanded action after at least eight people were killed by a gunman in Allen, Tex., on Saturday. “This is freedom?? To be shot at a mall? Shot at school? Shot at church? Shot at the movies?” asked California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in a tweet, adding that Congress should act on gun control legislation. “We have become a nation that is more focused on the right to kill than the right to live. This is not what the American people want,” he added https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/05/06/shooting-allen-texas-mall/ |

Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin announced on Friday that his private military company would leave the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut on May 10 because his fighters lack ammunition. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPEorldYVjA “I am officially addressing the Chief of the General Staff, the Minister of Defense, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief and the people of Russia,” Prigozhin said in a statement posted to the Telegram messaging app. "I declare on behalf of the Wagner fighters, on behalf of the Wagner command, that on May 10, 2023, we are obliged to transfer positions in the settlement of Bakhmut to units of the Defense Ministry and withdraw the remains of Wagner to logistics camps to lick our wounds," Prigozhin said. “I'm withdrawing Wagner PMC units because without ammunition, they are doomed to a senseless death,” he continued, claiming that Wagner had fallen “out of favour with envious near-military bureaucrats." It comes a day after the Wagner boss launched an expletive-laden tirade against Russia's military leadership. Standing in front of the bodies of dozens of what he claims are his fighters killed in Russia’s war on Ukraine, Prigozhin blamed their deaths on a lack of support from Moscow. Prigozhin’s forces have played a key role in Russian assaults on Ukrainian territory, including Bakhmut. He has previously complained of receiving insufficient support from the Kremlin and, in an interview on Sunday, threatened to withdraw his mercenaries from the embattled eastern city. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on Friday's announcement, telling a conference call with reporters: "Of course, I saw it in the media, but I can’t comment as it concerns the special military operation." https://edition.cnn.com/europe/live-news/russia-ukraine-war-news-05-05-23/h_9bca8d562dd593a12a99b3555783e04f |

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has issued a warning to all illegal occupants of airport lands to vacate the premises for their own safety and security. According to a statement on Tuesday, the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Faithful Hope-Ivbaze, the recent demolition of 13 houses was because they posed dangers to the operations of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos State. She said, “The occupants of these buildings were duly notified of the impending demolitions and intensive awareness campaign through “stop work” markings and the planting of notice boards within the Red Zone. “In September 2022, FAAN wrote to LASG for their cooperation in conducting this exercise in the interest of Aviation and Communal Safety and Security. “The removal of illegal structures is also scheduled to be carried out at all other airports that have similar challenges.” Hope-Ivbaze further explained that the area of land currently housing the airport was acquired for public use by the federal government through the lands acquisition ordinance by the government official gazettes in 1944, 1972, and 1975, respectively. She noted that FAAN noticed some encroachments within its acquired land and a committee was set up to investigate and compel those encroaching to cease and desist from such actions sometime in the year 2000. https://punchng.com/vacate-airport-lands-faan-tells-illegal-occupants/ |
