TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by AbdulSleeky: 5:47pm On Dec 30, 2020 |
oyaskii: A really long read but good constructive criticism points. However let me attempt to address some, i have written them chronologically to match yours.
1) The setting of it been 80's has a chronological importance and i think it was perfect. Remember the first part was set in 1918, it began with Diana seeing a picture in Paris in modern times making her reflect on a past ( going back to when Steven Trevor plane crashed at Themiscyra in 1918). So both WW (2017) and WW#84 are still origin stories somewhat, so they couldn't just jump a whole century to 2000's.
2)The "Themiscyra Amazon Olympics" scene was ok too and been an "origin" movie, it was okay to visit her roots in the first few scenes of the movie and quite frankly it was the best scene shot cinematography wise in the entire movie.
3) The Camp mall fight was outrightly wack there's no way to even look at it. I think Patty Jenkins was riding on the euphoria of the first movie, which if you rewatch, you will discover it's just an okay movie, nothing exceptional.
4) To me, i am still struggling to find the point of Chris Pine in WW84, what purpose did it serve? the movie could quite go on without him without this added drama of "Rapist wonder woman".
5) I think the "Dreamstone" is of the most stupid subplot in a major superhero movie in a very long while. Couldn't get the hang of it. It worked out in the comics doesn't mean it will work in live action, the writing for this was abysmal.
6) I would like to absolve my man Mando from this debacle of the character "Max Lord" . The writing for it's character was shambolic and frankly in essence lead no where great. Patty Jenkins should have left Cheetah as the one and only Villain and it would have turned out fine.
7) Of course when the movie has been a shii show for over 2hrs 30 mins, you should expect a horrible ending and it didn't disappoint.
Who the hell cast Kristen Wiig for villanous and serious role as the Cheetah? This woman is a comedienne and haven't seen her in anything other than that. It was the first thing i was angry about when i first saw the trailer.
The golden armour was literally in all the promotional photos only for it to appear for 5 seconds.
All this been said, i liked the movie for its aesthetics, there was a reason Pattt Jenkins was pushing for a 4K release on HBO max, the shots where truly breathtaking and the score was quality.
They even had the nerve to even add a post credit scene... Bros, 1 crate of origin for you

Dotng: The thought and analysis are the kettle of this mallam. Anyone can also bring out a goldmine by their own analysis. It does not mean that it is objective. Neither should it be. Movies are like works of art, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Unless the movie is a totally useless movie it will appeal to people differently. Keep quiet. It is people like you that allow Trump-style stupid opinions and alternative facts to exist within intellectual discussions. The people I quoted rated the movie based on the fact that they liked it. No facts, just that they liked it. Even if I like a movie, I must point out what I like about it and rate it across a criteria- plot, acting performance, cinematography etc |

Islam › Re: Islam For Muslims: Side Talk Station by AbdulSleeky: 9:43pm On Dec 29, 2020 |
Empiree: Go to fbi website or simply google fbi definition of "terrorism". Their definition is political not religion. Question is, why is it that anytime a person with muslim sounding name commits or attempt to commit a crime it is labelled "terrorist" but christian or english name fellow commits the same crime he is not labelled terrorist?. Why this double standards?. Unless fbi has changed their long standing definition, then it has nothing to do with religion. But for the fact that media keeps promoting the hashtag. I can guarantee that if Anthony Quin was muslim and had no link with terrorism and no religion inclination, they had still tagged it "islamic terrorist' just by his name alone.
Then this is a different defition It is a very sad thing. The media doesn't waste time to call muslims terrorists. But a white non muslim bomber is "disturbed" or "misunderstood". |

Empiree: hahahaha... you are beginning to understand how MUSLIMs feel too. What link us with terrorism propaganda?
You have not condemned this bombing. Your silence is guilt. Its been 4days and no atheists and Christians have condemned him. This is what you people do to us. Abeg, he's your brother that's why you refused to condemn him which means you are co-conspirator You dont even know if the bomber is a Christian or Jew or atheist. The bomber was apolitical and never espoused any belief one way or the other, according to reports. This is different from islamic terrorists who claim to be fighting Jihad based on the Quran and Hadith. |

Joker had better ratings (imdb) than both wonderwoman movies with lesser action than both movies. Joker also earned more money at the box office and had better awards.
Unless you are talking about your razz mushin friends, people did not have a problem with the lack of action in the joker.
Now, wonderwoman 1984 has more than just a lack of action as a problem.
1. There was no punishment for the villain who caused untold global havoc.
2. The logic of the wishes was not consistent..The villain's son originally wished for the father to be closer to him and it didn't come true at that moment. The villain wished to be the wishing stone. But the wishing stone did not gain or lose any powers after a wish.
3. The villain's motivation made no sense. He was a con man that wanted to be big in oil. He didn't need to start becoming a global wish master tyrant after making it in oil.
4. The sappy romance- the way the movie ended as if it was a Disney children's movie with everyone being happy at a snowy Christmas (despite worldwide chaos days before). The fake coincidence of meeting Steve Trevor's body vessel at the end.
5. The pacing of the film. The first wonderwoman was linear and easy to follow with the action increasingly ramped up. This movie was slow at times and was not as tightly fit.
So much more.
Unless you are a better reviewer than most movie reviewers, ww1984 has many problems

pu7pl3: these people obviously lack brains and it's sad to see you're pandering to them, I thought you knew better bruh...
General movie tropes:- waking up in someone else's body, has been done several times, it's not the first and it won't be the last either
If an Arab soldier fvcks up so an Israeli superhero shouldn't treat his fvck up cos And mind you, all the actors involved agreed to this...
Asians, blacks etc were all portrayed in the movie...or have you forgotten that Gal herself is a person of colour? Don't also forget Babajide
The movie is anything but boring...soomany ooh, ahhh and awwwn moments Clown. I made 5 points of my own different from theirs. I even quoted you on the comment. I made my own decisions. Nonetheless, Their points are valid. The movie was boring compared to the original wonder woman movie. There were few people of colour in the movie, especially for supporting cast with lines. The only person of colour is Pedro Pascal. It is debatable that Gal Gadot is a person of colour. There is the Jews of colour issue. The Israeli Arab problem remains. That is a fact you cannot argue against. How many movies do you see people having sex on other people's bodies? The only one that I can think of is the originals- but vampires are a lustful bunch of predators. And molesters. Is wonderwoman a lustful predator? Here are my points that are separate from.the feminist website AbdulSleeky: See this one.

Even a feminist geek site did not like wonder woman 1984. The feminist site (TheMarySue) gave it 2 out of 5. That is 4/10 Reasons why the feminist site did not like the new wonder woman movie 1. Body invasion and rape- Steve Trevor was resurrected in another man's body. Steve invaded another man's body and had sex with wonder woman. The innocent man's body was violated. 2. Wonder woman, an Isreali actress beating up Arab soldiers in Egypt- Are you aware that wonder woman is banned in Lebanon because of Gal Gadot's time in the isreali army? No why would there be a scene in the movie of Wonder woman thrashing Arab soldiers? hmmm? 3. Lack of people of colour- hmmm 4. Boring- two different reviewers on that site called the movie "generally boring". pu7pl3, abduleez1, alexistaiwo, blackmanta.....come and see facts

BlackManta: She looks at couples not because she wants a man of her own but because she clearly misses Steve Trevor even after 40 years.
She's just hung up over the guy and misses his companionship.
Women who are head over heels in love with a particular guy will often find it difficult dating another man.
That's fact Abeg. Time heals all wounds. Just because her lover is dead, she never gets over him and masturbates for over 30 years? Lies. 39 years is a long time |

BlackManta: She didn't find a guy because she didn't go looking for one...
The movie made it clear that she turns down down men anytime they start making advances...like at the party where she wore white gown looking stunning and all.
Two men or so made advances and she ignored them, a third guy started following and she kept telling him she's not interested until it turned out the guy was Steve Trevor...
It's obvious that men came for her in those 30 years without Steve and she brushed them aside...the film hinted it but you totally missed it I didn't miss it. I also noticed that she also felt lonely at a restaurant as she was dining alone and watching other couples. What kind of biitch is lonely but avoids looking for companionship from men? Answer- a ridiculously fake woke idea of what a strong woman should be. |

abduleez1: The ending— last five minutes felt like the Donner/ Christopher Reeves movie with its little bit of Campiness. Also the Shopping Mall scene had it sprinkled on it.
At least it was delivered intelligently and not the horsesh!|t Joss tried to give us. The "donner feel" is actually the problem of the movie, especially the ending. I would describe the mall scene as a thematic setting of 80s american rise in capitalism and boom in technology. It was also in stranger things. But whatever, your ilk will never agree that the WW84 is let down. #WW419 |
