marcdunu:

The trouble is this group of people are trying to export democracy they don't have to Ivory Coast. They forget that the reason that Ivory Coast is in a crisis today is because they constituted a truly independent electoral commission willing to stand up for what is right.

here in Nigeria the rules keep changing by the day, the goal post keeps shifting just to favour one candidate and yet we want to impose values we don't have on Ivory Coast.
I chuckled as I read your post because it reminded me of a Yoruba adage which means "if someone is going to provide us with a dress, we should  look at the quality of the attire the person is wearing."  They want to export the values they don't have which is the hallmark of hypocrisy.

Did anybody got the gist of the statement credited to Lasisi Olagunju, Oyinlola's press secretary? He said and I quote
Oyinlola did not leave just liabilities, he left about N7 billion in government coffers from the loan approved by the House of Assembly.
. The import of this statement in my understanding, is that the government was not living within its income: it was living on borrowing to supplement its income. The question becomes what happens to the monthly allocation it receives from the fed? What about the internally generated revenues or is the state not economically viable?
There is a case of mismanagement of government revenues here and it bothers on incompetence and misplaced priority. Aregbe mentioned about financing Stadia (obviosuly for corrupt enrichment purposes) when the resources of the state is not even sufficient to finance its current and maturing obligations. The last time I checked, the same Oyinlola was a military governor of the Lagos State and nobody can point to what he achieved while he held sway at Alausa. He was a complete failure. We all knew what his contemporaries did - Brig Maruwa, Tinubu while they held office and now Raji Fashola.

The apostles of do-or-die politics in the PDP are on top of their game and they have perfected their vote-buying plans starting with the forthcoming primary in January.
Unless we want to deceive ourselves, the April 2011 election is not going to be any different from the past fraudulent and rigged elections. The GEJ/Sambo organization working in cahoots with a member of the Senate president staff has churned out a rigging manual which contains delegate votes buying and other strategies that they will use to win the primary slated for January. There is nothing bad in planning but when it is done with fraudulent undertones, it spells disaster for the country. Foreign Affairs / Re: Ivory Coast Dispute Leaves 2 Presidents, Chaos by Abeem(m): 6:24pm On Dec 05, 2010
"People who make peaceful change impossible will make violent change inevitable". It is unfortunate that Gbagbo will not be the only one to be consumed in the conflagration that will likely follow suit. It is inevitable.
African leaders are selfish idiots! What else does Gbagbo wants? He has been in power for a decade and for a reasonable human being, ten years should be sufficient a time to leave an everlasting imprint on the socio-economic lives of Ivorians. That is a dangerous assumption and it is a known fact that political leaders in Africa are not in tune with reality. They hardly reckon with the fact that power is transient and ephemeral; a fleeting phenomenon. They can't tune with the fact that they have to give up the power because of the ills they have wrought on the people when they held the reins of power.
But whether Gbagbo likes it or not, the die is cast. The battle line has been drawn in the sand. There can't be two captains in a ship. The country will now be plunged into a political crisis which nobody can predict the end result; because of the selfishness and greed of one man. This country has metamorphosed from one crisis to another and this new crisis is one that they can do without. But will the selfish Gbagbo listen to wise counsel from world leaders? No. He is heading for the land of no return unless he renounces his oath which he is less likely to do.

Isn't it amazing? Elsewhere, across the globe, human beings are making giant strides in all aspects of human endeavor. Here in Nigeria, it is a hopeless situation. We hardly get anything right - we are bedevilled by corruption, bad leadership, indiscipline, unemployment, kidnapping, religious extremism, terrorism, armed robbery, irregular power supply, election rigging, lack of pipe borne water, unaffordable health care, falling standard of education etc. What is the way forward? Representative Government. Not the selective representation as being practiced now. We can start making incremental progress by ensuring that our votes count and voting for folks that are not going to Abuja to steal our commonwealth.
Politics / Re: Why Is Nigeria's Business Climate So Hostile? by Abeem(m): 4:22am On Nov 10, 2010
PEST is good and add to it, the Legal environment which can also be co-joined with the Political environment. Are the courts friendly to businesses in their judicial decisions? That assurance is necessary for a healthy business climate. The external environment is an area which the business has little or no control over.
A lot has been said about how Nigeria Entrepreneurs have no business model which is very true. Most of the entrepreneurs out there do little or no planning before venturing into business. The environment is hostile no doubt but there are certain steps that the budding entrepreneur must take to avoid pitfall.
If you are going into business for the first time you need to do some analysis to determine your strengths and weaknesses, the opportunities and threats that could determine whether your business will be a success or a failure. It may also be helpful to conduct an analysis of the environment of your industry before venturing into an ocean that is invested in sharks. Consider:
1. If there are threats to new entrants (barriers that might prevent the new idea from coming to fruition)
2. The power of suppliers - They can hold you to ransom if you depend on their products as raw materials for your own product or you have a competitor that buys from the same supplier
3. The Competition - the threat may be formidable especially if they command a larger market share
Also do an analysis of your internal assessment of your resources, capabilities and core competencies to determine your readiness to succeed with your business model.

It is because you can't do justice to the topic in the abstract to the exclusion of the business people. Since the topic is about the Nigerian's business climate, Nigerian Businessmen are fair game in the discussion.

Believe it or not all these question are very much related. If we dont answer these questions we will not know why we are where we are today.
The secret you talk about was the case  of Gloria Okon who was a Cocaine courier for IBB's wife, Maryam. Gloria Okon was held for trafficking in Cocaine at a time that the regime of Buhari/Idiagbon felt strongly that Cocaine pushers should be punished for their offence by death and even executed three convicted pushers. Suddenly it became public knowledge that Gloria Okon died mysteriously as a result of food poison while in detention but it was later found out that Gloria Okon was shipped to France. Someone eventually trailed Gloria Okon to France and Dele Giwa became privy to that information and was using that knowledge to extort money from IBB or risk the exposure of the secret. IBB devised some cunning means to make Dele Giwa jettison his plans to make that secret public not the least of being the accusation of gun running against Dele Giwa.  The accusation of gun running was later dropped and the negotiation about Gloria Okon's case resumed which culminated in the parcel bomb being sent to him.

This is an indolent jornalistic work. I can't figure out in the interview why OBJ hates the Ibadan people. He merely uttered OBJ did not like them. Why? The interviewee did not like OBJ no doubt but what did he do to make you reach that conclusion. He wasn't the one who imposed Akala on the State it was their greedy Adedibu who used his connection with OBJ to crown Akala. None of the so called Ibadan people had the gut to challenge Adedibu for the imposition.

This is a shame! A case of the kettle calling the pot black. Isn't Israel notorious for carrying out international terrorism thru its intelligence outfit - Mossad? The latest in their play book was the assasination of Hamas leader in an hotel in Dubai earlier this year using the forged passports of several countries including Britain, USA, France etc to hide their true identity. I am sure our weedy government will not do anything to call off their bluff.

Nope! Human lives come cheap in Nigeria. The motivation to help the suffering masses out of sympathy and value for human lives is not in their dictionary. If they venture to do anything at all, it will probably be because the rescue operation would be a veritable source of funds to embezzle by the vagabonds - and they will eventually bungle the rescue operation.

Fortunately for Nigeria, former mass murderer Ayatollah Buhari is reviled and despised by 99% of the voting electorate, including those from his own goat herding village, so he will certainly LOSE resoundingly in every single endeavor to which he applies his stolen money and deranged mind.

Be that as it may, Ayatollah Buhari should be encouraged to squander ALL the state-owned cash he looted as a military tyrant, and later as Head Embezzler of a conveniently created petroleum income piggy bank, to finance his record string of hilarious FAILED presidential election bids.

Ultimately, Ayatollah Mullah Buhari will die alone, broke and in state of acute clinical insanity brought on by a combination of advanced syphilis, and his mounting frustration over a wasted life scrambling after futile and pointless delusions of grandeur.

Stop your hatemongering. Anytime Buhari's name is mentioned you are always at daggers-drawn, ready to attack and assasinate his character. You accused him of being a mass-murderer?  Did he kill any of your relatives? I knew his administration sanctioned the killing of three convicted Cocaine pushers. Is your relative part of the triumvirate?
Now some home truth - You cannot play God. It is only God that gives power. If God has decreed that Buhari will win, you can't change that, for it is divine. If mortals like you have the power to give rain, you will be selective as to those who will receive the blessing. God is the lord of dominion, He gives power and taketh power from whomsoever He wishes. In His hand is all goodness.  Quit being a hater. It does not pay.

Beaf:

The bolded is one of the funniest statements ever. To test out your theory, try threatening someone with death and see whether the fact that the event will take place in the future has any bearing on the punishment.
There is nothing funny about the statement and I am mindful that Nigeria is a country of anything goes (afterall they smuggled 12 2/3 into the lexicon of the country's constitution to thwart the ambition of Awolowo in 1979). Nonetheless, I still stand by my statement. What will be the premise on which the case for treason will be based on? Their principal has not won the party's ticket.  They can't play God. If he wins after the primaries, then your theory of threatening someone with death might be applicable. Even then, he cannot be categorically sure he will win the presidential election (although the mole he planted in INEC will rig him in) not until the election has taken place that he can stand on high moral ground and order the prosecution of anyone making inciting and reckless statement like Kaita did.
Politics / Re: Treason - Jonathan Sambo Campaign Organisation Wants Kaita Tried by Abeem(m): 8:21pm On Oct 10, 2010
These clowns in the Jonathan/Sambo Campaign Organization are daft, too daft. Is it possible to try somebody for an offense that will take place in the future? The offense is predicated on GEJ winning the election. This is incredible. Jonathan has not even won the ticket of their party and these morons are calling for the trial of people making political statements for treason! I hope their immaturity would not plunge the country into a mess.

Jonathan, Atiku, IBB Saraki et al - all the aspirants within PDP does not deserve to be elected. In civilized climes, the in-fighting among the presidential hopefulls is sufficient reason for people to jettison anything PDP and switch support to the opposition. In a free and fair election, the PDP does not even stand the chance to win. With all the money pumped into INEC, we shall see if the election will be free and fair. I doubt it much.

My gut feelings tell me it is a capital NO. I have said it before that the Attahiru Jega man is a joke because there is really nothing in his antecedents that makes me think he can deliver on a promise of a free and fair election. The icing on the cake was the confirmation today that Adebayo Ayoka, the unconscionable and infamous INEC Resident officer of the Ekiti gubernatorial re-run of April 2009 is still in the employment of INEC this time in Ondo State as its resident officer. How can Jega deliver a free and fair election with rotten elements like Adebayo Ayoka still calling the shot in INEC.

These crop of clueless leaders are just out to milk Nigeria dry. How do they intend to develop our local industry when the industries are discrimnated against and are not patronized? Instead of supporting the growth of the local economy by awarding the contract to a plastic manufacturing company in the country and helping as a result to reducing the level of unemployment of the youths, these bunch of corrupt idiots have to resort to awarding contracts for the IMPORTATION of gabbage disposal carts. Any right thinking person who calls himself a leader will appreciate that there is a nexus and correlation between crime rate and high level of unemployment. The greedy bastards cannot be bothered because they have a false sense of security.
It is unimaginable that in this era of global competition and advancement in production technology, Nigeria does not have the technology and capacity to manufacture rubber/plastic carts for gabbage disposal. I do not want to believe that this is true. It is simply unfathomnable. No it can't be true. I think it is simply a case of greed and the love of Euro or Pound Sterling that has prevented them from thinking right and fomulating the right strategy for the develoment of the local industry.

Anyone knows who Henry Ford William Wriggle Jr. is? This man, fondly called Henry Ford, pioneered the automobile industry in America. Henry Ford never made it to high school, not to talk of college education, but the history of the automotive industry is not complete without the mention of his name.
This man who has successfully redesigned the VW Bettle has what it takes to be successful and be a world acclaimed genius. He has the will, determination, desire and hope to be successful. He has demonstrated it and the success is there for everyone to behold.
Napoleon Hill, an American author in the 20th century who cataloged the achievements of 25 most successful Americans of his time, mentioned in his book "Think and Grow Rich", that all achievements, all earned riches began with the conceptualization of an Idea.
He also talked about human nature - the way God created us - human beings - that once we make up our mind to do something, anything for that matter, we can do it. The stumbling block towards achieving our set goals is negative influences - We have to close our mind to all negative and discouraging influences - including negative suggestions of relatives, friends, and acquaintances. My understanding of human nature and the psychology of people has altered considerably after reading this book. The book is available online and can be bought from Amazon.com.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 21-year-old was charged with murder after his mother was found dead in her Northwest Jacksonville home and her head was found in a bag a few blocks away.

Officers said family members found the body of 43-year-old Jennifer Ling Sunday afternoon in her home in the 1500 block of West Sixth Street. A short time later, the victim's head was found in a plastic bag in a field on the other side of Kings Road.

Police said witnesses reported seeing Jumar Henry carry that bag away from the house. For the rest of the story, click here: http://www.news4jax.com/news/23264007/detail.html

All of these people resigned from office, why can't Sanusi ?

Sanusi is a wimp that is why he is unable to do the right thing and resign in the face of vote of no confidence. He should spare us his holy sermons. he is no good to anyone.

Mikeansy,
I need a refresher on your comments on the two bolded items.
You said Rimi resigned as governor of Kano. When did he resigned from office and which party did he changed to? Also, which office did Col Abubakar Umar resigned from?
As far as I know, Rimi was governor of Kano State during the Second Republic and was elected under the platform of Aminu Kano's PRP. Himself and Balarabe Musa of Kaduna State were elected into office as PRP card carrying governors. Rimi completed his term but Balarabe Musa was impeached by the State House of Assembly members whose majority was elected as NPN stalwarts.
Col Umar only resigned his commission from the Nigerian Army due to irreconciliable differences he had with Abacha stemming from the crisis of June 12th, 1993.  He wasn't holding any political appointment at the time. I stand to be corrected.
