Goodmorning everyone. I am sorry its been a while i came here. Janauary has been very engaging with class work and GA. I am currently studying my MBA at Sulross state university in Texas, this is actually one of the top 20 most affordable yet quality universities in America. I will like to give back to the thread by assisting graduate students who will like to get admitted to my school. There are less than 50 international African students in this school as its dominated by Americans and mexicans. I can also help push for a GA position with the help of the Lord.

Otherwise you can visit the schools website www.sulross.edu

The weather condition here is similiar to that of Nigeria and its a beautiful small town.

Cheers

Hi Maam, you for real YOU DONT BELIEVE IN PRAYERS? Wow!

quote author=chinemomah2020 post=63935415]

In my opinion, you are totally wrong because the Vo has no time to look at what you are wearing or how beautiful/ugly you are to get an approval or denial. Moreover, this write up of yours makes no sense and is uncalled for.
Thank you all my good friends and to everyone who posted their transcripts and experiences for others to learn from. I got in few hours ago. The weather in texas feels great at the moment. I also met two nairalanders in my plane. Tosin kept my company during our stop over at Doha. We spent the new year cross over together. A very beautiful and down to heart kinda ladym Unfortunately Qatar didnt give us the accommodation they promised, they said the hotels in the airport where fully booked, and it will take 8hrs to issue us a transit visa to go outside the airport. Our flight was about 9hrs from Lagos to Doha.

My connecting flight was to Houston while hers was to Chicago. I met Sam, the 2nd nairalander in this flight which was 14 hours from Doha to Houston. We hope to visit the town later today.

Anyone in south west texas? Pm me.

All the best to those planning to come here too. If you need any help, I will be glad to assist if I can. Cheers

Its always very rare for any company to sponsor their staffs for a degree abroad especially when you have not worked with them for so long or if its not one of this multinational companies.

Also it seems VO wasn't convinced that you were passionate enough about that course from the the answers you gave. Also you didnt answer the why four years part, I guess you didnt see that coming.

My thoughts though. All the best in your next interview Bro. Please refire

My visa was delayed today by the tall white guy at window 9.(Appointment: 6:30am) Below is my transcript.

V.O: Good morning sir, Your passport and I20
Me: Morning sir (while I passed the requested documents)
V.O: which school are you going?
Me: Southern Arkansas University
V.O: For which course?
Me: Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a (he cut in)
V.O: which type of engineering?
Me: Welding Engineering Technology
V.O: Do you apply to any other school?
Me: Yes
V.O: Which?
Me: Ferris State University
V.O: Did they admit you?
Me: Yes
V.O: Why SAU?
Me: As a student of SAU, I have the opportunity to participate in undergraduate research during my studies, combined with collaborative research on a national level, which includes summer programs at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory in Berkeley California. And most of the courses I'll offer will be taught by engineering professors who have work experience in industries.
V.O: Why going for four years degree in welding, why not a two years course or something?
Me: The degree will equip me with the mathematics, science, and engineering education I need to competently function in the welding industry.
V.O: Ok, can you weld?
Me: No, but I supervise their work on site.
V.O: Tell me about your job?

Hi Time2smile, I wasn't actually contradicting what you wrote, my comment was to the guy who got delayed. His response was too short and not detailed enough to justify his travelling intension.

I I believe if he had thoroughly gone through the thread and read through and understood the various transcripts he may not have answered the way he did.

All the best

Time2Smile:
No offense taken. I have been following this thread for a while and I have visited the embassy for interview just like you. From what I observed, an interview which is results in a denial is not usually that short. I listened to a number of interviews. There is really not much help that can be rendered to him with that transcript. For a denial interview to be that short, there may be a backstory. I just have the feeling that there are some things OP is not telling us. Which VO will deny him after just thishuh

However, I might be wrong and I apologize if I am. Just trying to help.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 13 by abeeolars: 6:33pm On Dec 20, 2017
Awww sorry about the denial. Honestly you seem to have a good transcript. I really loved the way you spoke about "why this school".

Why do you need this MBA: I need this MBA because it will equip me with necessary managerial tools ,skills and perspective needed to successfully lead my dad's company into the future ,it will also enhance and refine my leadership and strategic planning capabilities there by making me a better team leader, more so this MBA will broaden my integrated view of business as a whole in relation to it's market international and local economies, the MBA will also expose me to international best practice with an ......

I dont think this point is strong enough for the purpose of going abroad for an MBA, with the above point you gave you can as well acquire the said skills here in Nigeria. Remember that there are several leadership programs in Naija. So your points must be strong enough to convince the VO that you really need this MBA from a Us university.

But i think the below was what really spoilt the show for you-

v. O How long have you been working in your Dad's company

One white man entered , the Vo said sorry and closed the small passage , the discussed and the man went off, he asked the question again

Me , I've been working in this present company for two years , I worked for 4years in my previous company which also belong to my dad
V.o that make it six years ?

This doesnt seem too clear, (You claim you are presently working as an assistant manager at a company which belongs to your Dad and you previously worked for 4 years at another company of your Dad. 6 years working for your father hmmmm. The VO didnt seem to have a very good first impression about you especially in the area of your work experience, so the distraction he was also getting from his colleague didnt give him enough time to think deeper about your application.

I believe you have a good chance of getting the Visa, so please reapply! Good luck

Sorry for the delay bro. The VO was distracted I think. Refire asap
I dont mean to be rude Bro, but i believe if you have been following this thread properly you wont give these type of answers above.

Time2Smile:
I am sorry to say this and I may be wrong, but F1 denial interviews are not this short. The VOs ask more questions than these before denying Visas. You might want to post a full transcript if you really want people to help you.

TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 12 by abeeolars:
Goodmorning Guys,

This thread has been very helpful i must confess. I was interviewed yesterday morning and i got the VISA. So here is a little way to give back and say thank you. First of all i want to say a big thank you to everyone who comes back here from time to time to drop their transcript, a big thank you to OMOLUABI for the series of mock, also to my whatsapp nairaland group members, especially Dupsaw and Therighteous for their own mock interviews and advice too. It felt like a small family with you guys and i pray that every member of our whatsapp group gets their visas as well.

Ok, i left my Ikoyi apartment around 4.15am, i said my final prayers, ordered for taxify and by 4.30am i was at the embassy. I was the first person to arrive and it felt super cool, infact it felt like i won a medal LOL. I actually wore my best suit, best shoes, and i was looking all corporate, and i felt so confident. I had already read here to ignore those embassy touts, so i didnt even pay any attention. People started arriving at about 5am and by 6am the embassy was filled up.

I did try as much as possible to maintain my front area position, fast forward to 6.30am, two officers came out from the embassy and told us to form a queue, chai some fast guys took my front position. Anyways i was amongst the first batch and i did all the necessary finger prints and i was later directed to the white guy at desk 6. I noticed some mistakes that some people made that i will like to address; when you get to the embassy, dont go about making new friends, gisting and hanging around, it may cause you some distraction, just focus on the mission at hand, also dress sense is also important as your appearance counts alot, for the Men, try to get a clean haircut and a clean shave, remove all those beards, dress in a manner that the VO will be convinced that you are a responsible fellow, dont come wearing some canvas and looking hipy, or some random outfit, for the ladies too dress like someone who is going to a higher institution for professional studies.

My transcript goes thus-

VO- Goodmorning
ME- Goodmorning Sir

VO- Kindly pass me your I-20 and passport please.
ME- Have it Sir.

VO- So i can see you are going to Sulross state university for your Masters degree in business administration?
ME- Yes, i am going to Sulross state university at Alpine in texas for my MBA.

VO- Why the career change from Agricultural Economics to Business Management?
ME- While i was in the university i realised that i had a strong passion for discovering and promoting young entrepreneurs, and also organising
events. I have discovered and promoted over 300 startup brands here in Nigeria so upon graduation i realised that this was what i wanted
to do for the rest of my life.

VO- (Now he looks straight at me in the eyes and i starred back at him) So how will an MBA help you in this choosen career?
ME- The MBA will help me in acquiring the needed professional skills for a successful business career. It will also
help me to learn and network with a diverse class of people who would have come from different parts of the world.

VO- Did you apply to any other school?
ME- Yes, i also applied to Texas A&M University at Commerce.

VO- Did you get in?
ME- Yes i was also admitted.

VO- So why Sulross?
ME- (He stares at me again) Well, i had been in close contact with Dr Marett she
heard about what i have been able to achieve with my startup business here in Nigeria and she has agreed to offer me mentorship to
inorder to become a better business Man. Also Sulross state university is very affordable for a state
university and considering the quality of education they offer.

VO- Did you write any tests?
ME- Yes, i wrote TOEFL and GRE.

VO- What did you score?
ME- Toefl 82, GRE 281

VO- Who is sponsoring?
ME- My Dad.

VO- What does he do?
ME- He sells and import cars and he is also into real estate.

VO- Do you have any statement to show you have enough funds for your first year?
ME- Yes. *sharp sharp i brought out all the documents, na em i com dey find the statement oooo, lol cos i had printed out my personal bank
statement and that of my business, so i had about 3 different statements, the Man was actually waiting patiently for me. I later found my
Fathers statement hiding under one of the documents. He looked through for about 15 secs.

VO- He picked a white paper from his table, circled my pickup location. He didnt even say i will be approving your visa like i read from other
transcripts, he just said so you can pick up your visa in three days time, honestly, i didnt hear all the other things he was saying
afterwards.
ME- Thanks alot Sir. God bless. I packed all the scattered documents and i left.

Once i came out of the exit door, i looked up to the sky, i felt connected to the Lord at that moment and i felt he gave me a BIG smile back, i said "Thank you Lord". So i am going to the AMERICA grin

The Lord did it and i give him all the glory. I really practiced so hard for this, it reminded me of how much i prepared during those years i was writing ICAN back in uni cheesy

I wish you guys all the best.

TooMuchSauce:
My Visa Interview Experience Today (6:30 am, Lagos consulate)

The whole experience was surreal, the V.O was smiling for the substantial part of the interview, I got so relaxed at some point that I had my hands in my pocket; it's funny because I was really tensed before the interview started as I was the first to be interviewed by the man and I didn't know what to expect.

This thread provided me with all the information I needed, so it's only right that I contribute to it's continuity.

Things I did to keep me sane before the interview:
1) I prayed
2) I took a deep breath every once in a while
3) I had gum in my mouth to ease the tension
4) I tried to crack a smile every time I had a chance
5) I didn't pay any attention to the interview of people before me because I didn't want anything to mess with my head.

Interview:
VO: Hello good morning
Me: Good morning sir, thank you.
VO: So what school will you be attending in the US?
Me: University of Texas Arlington
VO: oh UT Arlington? (Briefly checked my I20)
Me: Yesssir
VO: Why did you choose UTArlington?
Me: There are three reasons I choose UTArlington over the other school that I got admitted to actually;
Firstly, I reached out to a particular professor, Dr. Ramtin Mandani who carries out research in the domain of nonlinear optimization of power systems and smart grids, and I think he was impressed with my test scores, so he agreed that I'd join his research group once I get on campus; and the research he is working on currently that borders around creating a mathematical model for solving large scale optimization problem is a fantastic research that I look forward to being a part of.
Secondly, I needed a school that offers the degree as an open ended program that would enable me take courses from other specialization subfields of electrical engineering like renewable energy and vehicular technology and MEMS
(He wanted to cut me at this point, I just kept going lol)
Finally, the humid subtropical weather in Texas is close what we experience here in Nigeria, so...yes! It won't be an issue settling in and starting my studies (he smiled and nodded in agreement)
VO: what programming language would you be using for your research?
Me: Matlab (although matlab isn't a programming language per se, I said matlab cos I mentioned something about running simulations with matlab in DS160, so...)
VO: Who will be paying for your schooling?
Me: My dad
VO: what does he do?
Me: He owns a company that deals in importation of electrical cables and supplies across the country.
V.O: Your undergraduate degree was in?
Me: Electrical Engineering
VO: And your masters is in Electrical Engineering too right?
Me: Yes.
VO: Did you have to write any test to get in?
Me: Yes I wrote the GRE and the TOEFL
V.O: How did you do on the GRE?
Me: Told him my score
VO: And TOEFL?
Me: Told him my score
VO: Did you apply to any other school?
Me: Yes
VO: can you mention them?
Me: UNCC and MSU.
VO: And you got admitted to all?
Me: I was admitted into UNCC but not MSU
VO: So what would you be doing after getting the degree?
Me: I would be taking up a lecturing position at my alma mata where I currently work as a research assistant, then after working solely as a lecturer for five years, I would broaden my horizon by juggling that with providing consultancy services in the electrical power industry.
VO: And you worked in NNPC for a while? (He saw it on my DS160)
Me: Yes sir, I was an intern
VO: was it like a summer internship or something, what was the duration?
Me: It lasted for six months.

He typed for a while; and...... Well, you know the rest. Lol
Bro please can you assist with mock. My interview is early december
